Love Thy Will Be Done - one of his best? Discuss I gotta say, I think "Love Thy Will Be Done" is one of Prince's best, most beautiful songs - lyrically beautiful, melodically beautiful - it's one of his greatest songs, and very underrated. I'm talking about the Martika version, not the bootleg sung by him. I do wish he released a "proper" version on a legit Prince album.
This morning I also listened to "Wonderful Ass" and "Rebirth of the Flesh" thought, damn, both KILLER songs that he never officially released. Why?? As much as I loved him, that was one of the things that infuriated me about him; why release "Betcha By Golly Wow" or "Strollin'" when he had so many other killer tracks in the vault. But, I respect that he followed his muse.
These are my P thoughts of the day.

It's my favourite Prince song / recording. . The Prince vocal version is an interesting curio, but I'm convinced it's just a guide vocal for Martika (he sounds so close to her voice), as opposed to a proper Prince recording with him giving it his best shot. . And I love the NPG version too, if maybe not quite as much. Yeah, even the singing!

Prinse sang in a concert he did in Aurtralia Love Thy Will Be Done. In my opinion it is the most beautiful song! Very deep...

I think he gave it a great performance, it's even layered up in harmonies. He made it also sound intimate in tone, not projected or belted out. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

I know folks aren't going to like this, but I not only like Prince's version, but I like the more rock oriented NPG Sonny vocal version. Sorry, it's the Hodgkin's talking.

I think it is. If I just heard the melody, harmonies, I'd love it on that alone. But then the lyrics on top it make it, for me, one of his very best. And I love P's, Martika's, and NPG's (my least fave of the three, though) versions. I just love this song! "She made me glad to be a man"

Always loved this song. I also get the impression that his singing on the demo version is just there as a guide vocal for Maritka, and, as such, it's kind of subdued. There's a terrific live version from Paris in 1998 with him giving it a real gutsy vocal and screaming guitar. Not sure if I'm allowed to say where it is, but it's very easy to find via Google. i dont get sick of it .... unlike alot of Prince songs - perhaps due to the fact i havnt heard it as much etc ... Colonel Angus may be smelly. colonel angus may be a little rough . but deep down ... Colonel angus is very sweet.

Actually it sounds like a beautiful prayer, this is not a love song in the context of a romantic sense, this song is beyond that; it speaks in a spiritual level.

I could listen to 100 different versions of this song and would still be in love. It's one of his best unrelased studio jems.

I love it too! So beautiful and I love the way it builds.
For years I thought it was a straightforward love song... honestly I only found out that Prince wrote it since his passing. I tracked down his vocal version (thank you Youtube fairies) and suddenly woke up to the fact that it's about God and a devotional. Then when I went back and looked at the Martika video I wondered why I never clued on to the religious nature of the song in the first place 8s oh well, lol me...
Interestingly Baz Luhrman has said since Prince's passing that a re-worked version of this song was meant to be the theme for his film The Great Gatsby but it never ended up happening. Knowing what I know of the Great Gatsby I'm not sure how that would have quite worked unless it was intended to be 'heard' as a straightforward love song. Off topic but I can't imagine that Prince would have been terribly impressed that Lana Del Ray ended up with the theme song (Young and Beautiful) in his place since she can't sing live to save her life...

It IS a prayer, or rather it started out kind of that way. From what ive heard Martika wrote the basis of the lyrics and prince tweaked it and turned it into a full song. The album that thisi is on , Martika's Kitchen, is really solid. "Where you are now is in a place that does not require time." - Rest In Power, PRINCE

Yes, I have a cassette of it somewhere. But the other songs on it are like, pop or dance or whatever (from what I remember - it's been at least a decade since I last heard it, and right now I don't even have a working cassette player!) - nothing else like Love.....

It's a solid early 90s pop project. A lot of dance/new jack swing lite style stuff on there. There are a couple other ballads, or ballady type tracks but yeah definitely nothing like love. It really is beautiful and it suits her voice amazingly. "Where you are now is in a place that does not require time." - Rest In Power, PRINCE

According to recent comments by Baz Luhrmann, the theme song to the Great Gatsby ended up being Lana del ray (young and beautiful) not Prince (love thy will be done) - that's the extent of any 'connection' between them as far as I know.

Speaking of Martika http://www.news.com.au/en...1cb5ba76a2 It's nice to see that she's doing well, and I really respect that she intentionally kind of stepped away from the industry for the trains that she did "Where you are now is in a place that does not require time." - Rest In Power, PRINCE

I've always it in its many forms. The Sonny vocal is OK but I love the Paris 98 version and the recent piano version in Sydney is beautiful [Edited 5/28/16 2:20am]
