yup, gotta make that money, give em lots of explosions some flashy effects and we're dumb enough to pay for it. Wow! look at that explosion, listen to the sound effects!

Biopics can be predictable, but the one biopic that I really enjoyed was 'What's Love Got To Do With It'.I think it worked better than the others because it was made while Tina Turner is still alive. She was able to advise the filmmakers and make sure that it was done properly.

Yeah, but there was a beef between Angela and Tina over the final concert cene which transitioned from Angela lipsynching to the real Tina singing. Angela was not happy that Tina stole her thunder at the end. The fact that Tina was alive and actually in the film made it a much different film than it would have otherwise. Yup...Tina's biopic was done right. VH-1 was sitting on a Vanity 6 biopic that fell through the cracks..It would have been interesting to see how they told her story.

Angela needs to stop that scene is perfect!

I remember hearing about those plans.I wish it would have happened.

In the right hands with the right actors, it could be done.
Instead of a full biopic, they could make a compelling movie with his rise to stardom up to the consecration of Purple Rain. There's lots of interesting events in his childhood and teenage years, and then until he reaches the big time, it's one thing after another, the stuff with Vanity, Morris, etc. it's all top notch bio stuff for a script writer.
The reason I would end it with the aftermath of Purple Rain and Prince moving on to new musical pastures and new heights is it's the best, most compelling part of his life dramatically. It's certainly the movie I'd expect Hollywood to want to make.

I don't think a proper biopic could be done as it would be everyone's take on him.
I agree with others that there is enough footage of him out there to do a proper docu film with interviews of his friends, bandmates, etc.
Because of their half-baked mistakes, we get ice cream, no cake; all lies, no truth; is it fair to Kill the YOUTH ~~ Party Up

Well yea as far as physique. That's important but it's about 15% of the job. IMO we're much better off with a proper documentary. A film maker who respects Prince but won't make it a fan-flick. We've seen powerful music docs appearing these last years:
What happened, Miss Simone (Nina) 30 Feet from stardom No Direction Home (Bob Dylan) Amy Little Girl Blue (Janis Joplin) All or Nothing at all (Sinatra) Marley

To be an actor, it might be 15% of the job. To play Prince, it's less than 1% of the job.

^^who is that guy? | |

The greatest biopic of Prince was already made. It was called Purple Rain.

They've never been able to pull off a Michael Jackson biopic for the the same why a Prince biopic wouldn't work. He had such a unique style and getting any actor to metamorphosize into famboyant Prince would just look silly and comical. You can pull off the best performance, but if you're wearing heels, it's hard to take it seriously. Only Prince could pull that off. That's why they could make a great movie based on his early career, before he became so flamboyant. Just focus on the genius that he was instead of the superstar he became. It would be a great period movie about the music. Exactly what Prince would have wanted.

Even the authorized Jacksons' biopic about their early days wasn't good. I think any biopic about Prince wouldn't do him justice no matter who directed or starred in it. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

i wouldn't say it's impossible, but highly unlikely. I thought Kurt Russell did a stellar job as elvis but most of the other actors were laughable, even in little ways. they had an irish guy play him, he actually did a fine job but little things irk you when you are a fan, dude's shoulders were too fucking narrow. And in the mj biopic, the costumes looked like they weren't even fitted, those kinds of things will fuck it up.

I have visions of Lifetime attempting to do this. I don't feel good about it at all. And we all know what happened with other so-called biopics.

AnonymousFan said: It would have to be animated. YESSSSS! Like possibly a Fantasia type deal where the music tells the story. Maybe friends /collabs tell stories in between. I don't want to see anyone "do" Prince. They could possibly "create" his voice using clips ... Perhaps even some kind of CGI. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
Hmm. Use CG to recreate Prince throughout his life? Or, instead of making a strict biopic, make a documentary Tupac Resurrection style and make it with his own words.
