I know I heard it during a few interviews with other people (one being Charlamagne the God) that he was a difficult person to look in the eye. I believe Jamie Fox even made the statement that there was something unusual when you looked Prince in the eye.
I know in all the photos I see of him there is something about his eyes that are a bit beguiling. Because of their half-baked mistakes, we get ice cream, no cake; all lies, no truth; is it fair to Kill the YOUTH ~~ Party Up |

I think it was just the 'GENIUS' vibe that he gave off. Seriously. The guy was 5'2" and even on stage he filled an arena with his magnitude for the moment he walked onstage.

That "don't look at him" thing was NOT a myth. At least not back in the old days. My father dislikes Prince to this day for that very reason. He used to be a concert promoter and he did not follow the instructions back stage to not look at P. Chaos ensued. It ended with a room full of grown adults being made to face the walls. I tried to tell him that he changed since then, but......

That was my favorite part of that interview. I think he was right - the interviewer had no manners and smirked through the whole thing - trying to outcool Prince - stupid amatuer move. What interview was this? |

When I looked in his eyes he had absolutely no problem with it. I was flustered for a second because he snuck up on me but I didn't flip out or act stupid so he was relaxed. Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise. |

Silly! I think it was more like , if your intimidated by Prince then don't look at him. Personally I believe he had no respect for those who felt him intimidating. I use to look him in the eye everytime I was around him, there was never a problem. |

From what I understand, he was a friendly, approachable person as long as you had a valid reason to interact with him. Of course, there were exceptions, but that's true of anyone. Right on! |

He was intimidating because he honestly didn't seem down to earth (not in public anyway). He always seemed to act as if he was so much more enlightened than everyone else. He didn't seem to know how to just go with the flow; he had to try to be "deep" about every little thing. And honestly, he seemed judgemental - like you were never going to get his "approval". |

That's sort of true, because although I was a huge fan, I used to always say that if I ever ran into him, I wouldn't go up to him and say anything to him, because of fear of him embarrassing me in some way. I loved him, but let's face it, the man could be a little a-hole sometimes, and he had that attitude and look like "do not come near me or bother me". |

Have to say I agree with this reason. He probably wasn't that way but he certainly gave that impression. [Edited 5/24/16 17:29pm]Love is God,

You ain't lying about "a Powerful Aura"! The 2 times I got fairly close to him at one concert and a after party it was powerful alright! Like some strong good exceptional extraordinary Funk!
I know the feeling. I was so overwhelmed when he walked out all I could do was hold my hands over my mouth to hide my slack-jawed laughter. If His Royal Badness noticed, he probably thought I was laughing at him - this was my only way of emotionally processing what was going down. |

I'll give you some examples...Beyoncé was nervous to sing with him at the Grammys. Why? Jimmy Fallon's story about playing ping pong against him...he was star struck by Prince yet has interviewed many many huge stars..why was Prince different?
On he other hand, jay Leno seemed relax with Prince as did Lenny kravitz.. |

That wasn't my experience at all. I didn't approach him first though.
From his perspective I imagine that he had to cultivate some type of unapproachable stance for his own good because he probably gets a helluva lot more unwanted attention from fools than the average person. I cant' blame him for that.

Prior to April 21st, good! One of the saddest things for me is knowing that my soon-to-be 3 year old son Benjamin won't get to experience the joy we got to experience. He knows who "Hince" is, though.
