People listening to the "new sh*t" for the first time...

Right after Prince died, that Minnesota radio station played 28 hours of him - his songs from A to Z - broadcast worldwide via the internet. I screen-saved their playlist, and I'm slowly opening the gift of his later albums, one by one.

I started with 20ten.

I've listened to it several times, and I like it better and better. Thinking of the songs in the context of his friendships, his loves, his ethics, his religion, his humor, and all the stories the people in his life are telling now... it's a beautiful album! I can't believe how bad the reviews were. It's like no one "got it". Some of the songs, after some listens, they are so funky and deep, they make me cry!

Anyone else tapping the "new sh*t" for the first time? And digging it?

Hello. How r u? I'm fine. Cuz I know that the Lord is coming soon. Coming, coming soon.

It is one of the few post-WB albums that feels like an ALBUM. With a consistent "FEEL" throughout. Really overlooked.

I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore...

As I was living in Auckland at the time, got my mum to get the paper for me back in the UK for 20Ten (and Planet earth too actually), and i HATED 20Ten on first listen (except Laydown / begining endlessly), wasn't until about a year ago I started getting into it and now quite like it.

..

.

funny how stuff can grow on you dependant on age/mood/setting...

I like Compassion and Future Soul Song. I used to like the others when it first came out, but I dont anymore for some reason. I dont know what happened, there just wasnt any staying power and long term depth that kept me interested. As for Planet Earth, I rate this as his worst album. It didnt even start off being good like 20ten did.

Im not sure how far back you are going with "new shit", but I wasnt very uplifted by LF, MPLS, PE or PE (Did we ever decide on the abbreviations for Planet Earth and Plectrum Electrum?). AOA is great, HRN 1 is ok and HNR 2 is great. But out of those 3 how much of the music was new I wonder?

Planet Earth was given a standard release in the US. i.e.: you could buy it in stores.

People severely underrate MPLSoUND, 20Ten, and Hit N Run 1 & 2. They were great.

always loved about half of 20ten and still listen to those tracks very regularly:

.

Lavaux (one of my favourite P tracks)

Sticky Like Glue

Walk in Sand

Sea of Everything

Future Soul Song

.

enjoy Laydown (especially having now seen the Lopez tv performance) and Everyone Loves Me too.

.

so that's definitely a good album for me. underrated at the time and still is on here in my opinion.

Those are the tracks I love too! But Compassion is great - its the perfect tonic for when the hater in me's got teeth a-gnashin' - Compassion.

The radio station was The Current (www.thecurrent.org). Actually, it was only 26 hours to go through the A - Z list. It was amazingly theraputic, and I'm SO GLAD I screen-saved the song list - its fourty some pages long smile

If you want to see that song list, PM me.
