Prince gave many songs to many artists. There were always some that got a Prince song that made me think 'how the hell does he/she/they get a song from Prince?' That doesn't mean it was a good or bad record - it just seemed the artist was not good enough to actually work with Prince or a a Prince product.

basket case sinead, just because she was so ungrateful and crazy. but really, I guess a case could be made for other people who made a career off of Prince and then bitched about how much he dogged them (not to say they were unjustified, but hey, morris and the time would have never been without Prince).

Obvious choice and a good one. SHe was a nobody and was handed a masterpiece for which she is plainly ungrateful to this day. It wasnt even the best rendition because the Family's is actually better and Prince's live version with Rosie is better than that.

there are horrible versions of his songs that never got over, so i guess we should say the prominent covers. Spotify has some awful versions of Prince songs.

Precisely because she has "such a weird vocal style"? Her career was launched by Zappa before she had Missing Persons, so Prince wasn't the only genius to see something in her. If having a weird artistic style is reason enough not to qualify as an artist, then Prince himself should never have been given a deal. Originality, while not an end in itself, is a very important componant of true talent.

there were always rumors of her mental instability going back to her Prince/fight story and her ripping up the pope's picture. I said to someone yesterday about her statement about arsenio "if you're going to make up a lie, at least make up a believable one". that is just ridiculous and makes her sound psychotic as hell. i read she went missing in chicago a couple weeks ago, she's nuts. And who knows, some women don't deal with getting old and haggard too well, some of them get real fucking nutty and miss the attention they used to get.

never heard of her, don't know why anyone would have signed to paisley park anyway, Prince sabotaged quite a few albums and he signed quite a few talentless people too. I heard that the clinton and the staples and Khan albums were well reviewed but I never heard them so maybe one of you know.

well, hating on sinead ya, her making up something which all look to be lies about a guy who wrote the song that most of us woulda never heard of her without. Well, she's not a very likeable person to begin with. Is her voice great? I don't know, never paid much attention.

The chick CAN sing. She has an AMAZING voice and her album before Nothing Compares is wonderful. The Lion and The Cobra. Great album. Let's just face it- something went down between the two of them and we may never know exactly what that was but she DID that song justice. Her version is incredible. Well said - she might be a fruit loop, but she can sing, and her version of NC2U is fantastic - unfortunately people get blindsided by her psychotic carry-on

Carmen and Apollonia got entire albums. I guess that makes them the winners.

For one-offs/lower levels of involvement: hmm... there are some WTF ones like "Kenny Rogers" (also, song sucks) and Monie Love.

PS: Prince didn't give Sinead "Nothing Compares 2 U" ... she just covered it, independent of any involvement with him.

ya, prince probably wouldn't have been covered at all if it was strictly up to him. but i think the way i see it, with all the clout sinead got off of his song, and then how she turned around and tried to say he beat her (which i didn't necessarily doubt until she said this ridiculous shit about arsenio) and kept her hostage, why should she benefit from his work?

Well check her out. The Lion and The Cobra is one of my favorite all time albums. The album with NC2U has lots of great tracks- Emperors New Clothes was actually another hit off that album. Faith and Courage is another good album, but TLATC is probably why Prince gave her a song.

Crazy as hell? Sure seems as such but you know artists sometimes they are batty and that's what makes them great.
