Does love see color? Frankly, I dont' care whether P was black, white, red or purple. I believe P while he was saw color disparages, he was hoping we would be love and accept each other. I forget which video in the beginning where he says "finally, color blind....it's about time". Larry Graham was also in it. I doubt the heart sees color and hence his choice of women. As to the 70's look, he changed his looks, music and style every so many years like he did musicians....does it matter? Perhaps he was "guided" by a Higher Power in that direction. As other people have commented, I cant' seem to stay away from this site, latest P news, you tube, etc. I have a job, outside activities, etc. I never met the man but followed him through the years from the very beginning, albeit somewhat lacksadaisical. I too am beginning to wonder if there is something wrong with me.

Sheila's and PP members tribute was amazing and very loving. They put their all into it and showed their respect and hearts for P. Sheila and Mayte at the end....they looked beautiful and could still see the grief showing in their faces...it was palpable. The group did P way proud! I loved it. What a way to close the show. Sorry for the criticism that follows...JH is a good screamer...never did think screaming is the same as singing I think I may have misunderstood the speech given by Jesse Williams. GREAT show overall. Can't get over the Sheila E and crew tribute though. Thank you.

How do I watch these videos, all I can see is 5 frames with 'Bet Award Moments' text in it, what's with that? Is this ' a US only thing' again?

Has anyone seen D'Angelo?

Yea, where was D'Angelo? I thought he was billed to perform....??

Is anyone kinda suprised that Lenny Kravitz wasnt a performer? I was.

Oh, boy, here we go ... Did anyone else think Prince's recent appearance from the natural hair (Afro-style) to the tunics and chains had him resembling African-American men of the 70s? It was as if he wanted to leave the image he had cultivated behind in favor of what he was comfortable with in the 70s as he started his career. But then there were the complaints that his women were usually light-skinned - where were the darker-skinned women in his life? I am white, and I never thought of him as a black artist. In fact, I never thought of him in terms of color. He always said he was "old school," loving the James Brown School of Entertainment. Or, as in a quip about Madonna (paraphrasing) that he could sing and dance at the same time. But his color never entered into it for me.

Thank you, the same for me. I never saw him in regards to color, just what an amazing entertainer and person he was. I am also "white", I put that in quotation marks because that's what some people want life to be about. Other than my daughter that I lost, I have never cried so hard, nor so long as I have for this beautiful man. He didn't exist in color for me only music. This is supposed to be a tribute site for him, not a color, race, creed or religion arguement. That was not what he was about.

admission is easy, just say U believe, then come 2 this place in your heart.

I'm quite worried about D'Angelo. I hope he backed out for a mundane reason, and that he's OK. I keep waiting for Quest to reassure us.

Easy, they probably follow mainstream coverage of him and still believe he's biracial like in Purple Rain.

I am so over the "whitewashing" of Prince. It's getting tiring.

Prince in song seemed to be in love with the idea of marriage, 'marry me' was throught his songs

Yes Sheila's father is Mexican (a lot of people consider that diff from Latino) her mother is Creole

I was just kidding about the politically correct, I guess that is more ethnically correct.

He did seem so. I remember on the View (I think) once Barbara Wawa pointed out to him that he was 'different' and it really seemed to bother him. I think he desperately wanted normalcy but he really wasn't normal lol. I could only imagine what his marriages must have been like. When he sings about being a lover, mother, brother, sister, father...in a way for me it was true (not the lover part) but as a woman, here was this tiny little man who was sexy (lover part), child like in many ways (mother part)one of the girls (sister part) and someone who mentored young women and showed them the ropes and protected them (brother). No wonder he had us all in a mixed up emotional mess!

He could never be 'normal' and be Prince

I remember him trying to normalize himself on that 21Nights book/cd.
Saying when he was young his mother used to send him to the store like everyone else to get her cigarettes and such. (my mother never sent us to the store for stuff) but I'm thinking "Prince that was a million miles away in time. but 1980 he was in a different universe 4ever.

lol yes, that is on point what you said.

At the Oakland P&M show Prince talked about his father and said he loved all the things his father loved and then named off what those things were: his mother, the bible and music. He also mentioned at one point how much his mother and father loved each other. Makes me wonder just how scarred he was over their breakup and how that impacted the rest of his life.

Yeah I don't know if he every went deep into that stuff. I know the earlier interviews with his father putting him out was hard. He said after that he never cried after begging his father to let him back. For a lot of people, especially men, that is shut down of certain emotions. And tend to be ready to cut people off quick who get close.

I was surprised he said as much as he did at that Oakland show. It was actually sweet and sad at the same time. Wonder how things might have turned out for him if he had a more normal childhood.

Seeing that performance by Sheila felt almost like seeing Prince perform for one last time.

The medley was tight and the band incredibly well-rehearsed.

EXACTLY! OMG, thank you for putting this into word form. This is why the man was so damn mysterious! He was multi-faceted, and I love that about him. I've always been more influenced by the fact that he's a sexy mf, but he was very protective and was a good mentor to those around him. I guess being a protector and mentor was his way of "paying it forward."

Yep. I agree. Prince was a brother for sure and proud of it! But you best not try to stereotype him otherwise you might get a boot...a high heeled boot! I personally loved him for his uniqueness and I loved him for his swag...his black american swag. Yep. there it was front and center in all he did. He loved all people regardless of race, gender, etc. but dont get it twisted, he was a brother through and through.

^^
Gosh! The world lost a true orignal... I miss his Prince-ness
