tracyface said: Right! I almost didnt believe my ears!!! I Love Sheila for doing that! His voice was seriously like an angel... Gosh, I loved all the tributes last night. I believe each artist who performed chose material that meant sometihng personally to them. Kudos to all!!!
I missed his voice part. Juggling a 18 month old and color crew at the same time so didn't hear it. Gotta listen again.

Maybe not really 'engaged' but one that was subjective and since she thought it was so, I included it...Nona. And as long as I went there I should have included that he was also engaged to a hispanic woman if as Sheila E says he proposed on stage is true.

oh Yeah Sheila E a Creole/Mexican woman (let's be politically correct lol) I believe her though, that it happened while Prince was caught up in lovesexy

I must say I wish the show itself hadn't been so political because it's kind of overshadowing these great performances. Go to the comments section on just about any recap of the night and the comments are all about race and not the performances themselves. This isn't about only BET can do a proper Prince tribute; its Billboard's tribute was awful and BET did something better. Paisley Park is in your heart

I can't believe I'm saying this, but I am actually proud of BET today. The network came through for the Purple Yoda in a big way.

Considering two of the people she mentioned did recieve their "flowers" from BET wwhile they were alive, I saw her statement for what it was. She was just pandering for her daughter to be "honored". GTFOH Tina Knowles and take your shady statements with you. While you and the Beehive believe your daughter to be a god, the truth is she will never be a Prince(ss).

I was watching a really irritating youtube livestream, and that's exactly what I noticed when I dared look at the chat. The user livestreaming it even put "Who?" on the screen when Bilal came on.

I don't think they were really engaged (Nona and P). Maybe for her it was something implied, I think from when he told her sister he was going to marry her or something. I didn't know Sheila was Creole too. It's darn tough to be thoroughly politically correct anymore! I guess my point is that P was acutely aware of color, but that didn't stop him from loving people of all colors. We could all learn from him on that one.

Prince in song seemed to be in love with the idea of marriage, 'marry me' was throught his songs
Yes Sheila's father is Mexican (a lot of people consider that diff from Latino) her mother is Creole I was just kidding about the politically correct, I guess that is more ethnically correct.

Well, try and remember this was an actual awards show .......Had prince and ali not passed away it would of still been an award show Yes,its about BET and what prince stood for over the last 20 something years of his life. And his family was there and they loved it.And everyone on here seemed to love it.I went to bed feeling so good and proud. Then they showed it on GMA this morning and it made me sad again [Edited 6/27/16 10:44am]

He did seem so. I remember on the View (I think) once Barbara Wawa pointed out to him that he was 'different' and it really seemed to bother him. I think he desperately wanted normalcy but he really wasn't normal lol. I could only imagine what his marriages must have been like. When he sings about being a lover, mother, brother, sister, father...in a way for me it was true (not the lover part) but as a woman, here was this tiny little man who was sexy (lover part), child like in many ways (mother part)one of the girls (sister part) and someone who mentored young women and showed them the ropes and protected them (brother). No wonder he had us all in a mixed up emotional mess!

I guess for me entertainment is an escape from politics. Which is why I hate being reminded of it when I watch these shows! Paisley Park is in your heart

At the Oakland P&M show Prince talked about his father and said he loved all the things his father loved and then named off what those things were: his mother, the bible and music. He also mentioned at one point how much his mother and father loved each other. Makes me wonder just how scarred he was over their breakup and how that impacted the rest of his life. Amazing tribute. I still haven't managed to find Eryka Baduh's performance, but the other three were great, and Sheila was off the hook. Seeing all those people on the same stage, and Sheila herself giving her all was absolutely amazing. At the end I wanted to run to the stage and hug Mayte, she's so beautiful and looks so sad. And hearing Prince's voice introducing Sheila... well, here come the tears again. I don't want to belittle Madonna, but this is how you pay tribute to Prince, with great musicians having fun on stage, not by covering Sinead O'Connor!

For the most part me too. It can be very exclusionary if you don't share the same beliefs and I think that music should be inclusive and used as a tool to bring everyone together. But that isn't the real world, and I didn't mind it so much this year because there are very real issues we are dealing with (even P sang about the issues), and without derailing and going political it is very crucial this year that people vote, more so than any other year I can remember. That being said, lol, I am not voting this year because frankly, I don't like either candidate...but I can't hate on those attempting to get their votes heard. (does this make sense?) Prior to Laila Ali, they had the screens lined with faces of those that passed away within the last year. There was SO many, that the only one I can remember seeing was Bobbi Kristina because she was at the top and my attention got interrupted. [Edited 6/27/16 11:06am]

That was beautiful...well, most of it. I skipped Purple Rain. But that was the best live version of Dorothys Ballad I´ve heard. The Beautiful Ones was amazing, too. Great musicians, great feel. That brought back a few tears, didn´t expect that. Sheila picked great songs and did a great show. To hear Let´s Work made me wiggle in the giggle And Jerome in the end<3 I wish Morris would have joined for a minute. But it was lovely anyway. Thanks to all who were involved in this.
