I'm disappointed as well. Choice of song worked--very predictable, but safe. appropriate. But the tribute was very sub par for an artist of Prince's status. Very sub par. They had a solid MONTH to prepare and this was it. This was like the level of a high school production. Billboards could have and should have done so much more to honor him. Good that Questlove was there. He represented the love for Prince. Stevie did too.

. Gotcha. She sang it with a lot of sincerity. .

Yea, I thiought this whole thing was a pile of crap! From QuestLover til the end. Not emotion, no tribute to Prince, just a weak ass performance by Madonna and Stevie. But I, like you, experienced the water works during the pics of him. Imagine that? Feeling emotion when they show photos of the guy they are supossed to be paying tribute too! Wow BB, you get a D- from me. This looked thrown together in about 2 hours. Shitty!!

. Yes pure genius and definitely makes me want to watch. As Dave Chapelle said, Prince's death is the "black 9/11", so you know it's going to be a good tribute if they have anyone with a brain and some talent producing it. I didn't find BET's "response" funny at all and thought it was inappropriate. I recall the tribute they did for Prince back in 2010, and people were criticizing it, and keep in mind Prince chose the artists to honor him. So BET will make the tribute half an hour long with more guests, that still doesn't mean it will be better. Sometimes the best tributes are short ones. Love is God,

Why not just show a video of Prince performing live?
Prince tributing Prince. "I was here in the beginning and I'll be here forever more"

OMG what the fuck was that? My heart was breaking wide open when all the lights turned purple, then seeing the audience give a standing ovation , I gasped and started crying, seeing them all honor him ,... then she started singing.... OMG she sucks. She was forcing her words out of her mouth, looked like she was out of it, not present in the moment.
OMG it sucked.
It was the most horrible tribute, and I'm hurt and pissed all over again.
Prince deserved better.

The best tribute will be a montage of his 30+ career with him talking about what music means to him. And then have actual talented, unique artists be in the show and in the music industry in general. The reason Prince's death hurts is that the music industry is lacking such artists. The best way you can honor Prince is by aspiring to have a career like his, not sing a karaoke of his songs. I think you miss the point of the media and entertainment industry. Its supposed to be competitive. So when you put on an awards show, bring your A game. Cuz people will react to it, and they'll be talking about it for years. Change it one more time..

Starting getting emotional when Quest was speaking and when Madonna first appeared. I could tell that she was sad, she did her best.....I actually started crying when some of his pics were shown.
Don't y'all worry! This wasn't great, but there will be more tributes for our PRINCE!

After Lady Gaga's vegas style parody of David Bowie, I had very low expectations for any Prince tribute, but I think overall it was fairly tasteful and when they showed pictures of him, I started to cry. So I suppose it worked. Madonna's voice isn't great, but at least she did a full song rather than a messy medly of his hits.

Goddess4Real said:I know that Roger Friedman is a crusty old gossip dude, but I found his column today rather amusing http://www.showbiz411.com...tv-tribute my fav quote "So Prince will get a very white tribute from someone who had nothing to do with him. It’s like having Celine Dion salute James Brown."[Edited 5/22/16 17:48pm] Great quote and one that I fully agree with......just watched a snipet on AOL and can I tell you, it sucked (except for Stevie).....is Madonna milking this like they were awesome, forever besties with shared vision and drives? I'm just an older broad with an opinion and now entering the "Anger" stage of grief, damn it. Too fuckin' young to leave us, world feels much more cold. I forgot how good his music made me feel and think, that's what happens when you get old and leave yourself behind. Need me some fuzzy love....and yes, I wear clear heels

Yup. All awards shows are shit shows! Ive worked them in the past. Mostly politics. Mostly whitewashed. Mostly all greed and money and not about the music to fans. A shit show. Rem lyrics in DMSR.... I don't wanna be a poet But it sucks it was the first official industry tribute and will be forever remembered as that. Billboard has already begun the spin, calling it "classic"

Tuning in very occasionally for these sorts of things to awards shows reminds me how shitty awards shows are, and how shitty apparently popular music is these days.
I sat through that entire thing. Mostly on mute.
