Don't know if this video will ever see the light of day, mainly because we don't know who has it, since there really is no known person in control of those things now, it may never be seen. Well it's definitely in the vault, had to be. And Rolling stone mentioned that Dr funkenberry says he has a copy as well. So it seems to be more of a matter of settling the estate first and then agreeing to make this publicly available either as a digital video release or single re release. Its kind of a perfect final single for him in some ways both cause of its lyrical content and its use of old and new Price content "Where you are now is in a place that does not require time." - Rest In Power, PRINCE

That's because it was previously unknown information about a song that is included on Prince's most recent album release and that it's looking like a possibility that Prince was considering releasing this around the time of his death to coincide with the ROC NATION album release of HNR2, so is therefore quite relevant. My understanding is that Funkenberry was given the video quite recently, but I am not clear on that. |

She's stunning! Definitely would love to see this video. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

Yup. She's real. Prince certainly did like the young, beautiful, talented, strong, honest Latinas woth whom he could have fun and share his sense of humor -- and most of all, mentor. I think he wanted to stay young as well as share his gifts, which he was obviously passionate about and felt were God-given. This young lady certainly put to rest any rumors of him being HIV-positive. I believe her too. Thanks for that.

. I asked myself the same question as TheEnglishGent and I still don't understand why THIS thread is a sticky for that reason. Unknown info? So? . Moderator LUV4U told me a week ago that the thread "Prince Remembered - Online Articles" could NOT be a sticky anymore because "there were already too many stickies". I am referring to this thread (which I did not create/start) that IMO is far more suited to be a sticky: http://prince.org/msg/7/424939 because it contains a collection of many different articles (similar to the also sticky thread "Tributes in Magazines / Newspapers". . Now this only gives me the impression that threads started by Mods will be stickied without the same scrutiny as threads started by regular members. Can a Mod please tell me I am wrong and explain the above situation? Thx. . .

Thought stickies were meant to be a little more interesting than this? A video that may as well not exist. If it surfaces and is released then I can see the point.

It's just my opinion and maybe useless to say since we all have our own taasts, but many times I prefer the original version rather than a later released version. I just wish the original were cleeaned up and released just as they are except in better sound quality than the copy I have.
Xtralovable is a perfect example of this and We Can Funk is the other that immediately comes to mind. I really prefer the versions of these songs recorded in the early to mid 80's. Some people like the version of We Can Funk with George Clinton and its not bad, its just missing so much of what that original or even second recording did. I kind of like the recent Xtralovable, but to be honest, its not even in the same league as the original. I just wasn't facinated by either of these re-workings. The early versions received so many play agains immediately after listening. [Edited 6/3/16 13:56pm] Did U ever feel that life was like lookin' 4 a penny in a large room with no light?

Ingela said: skipthecharades said: Still would feel strange to re-release a track that was already re-released. I like the new version, just don't know if i prefer the original new recording or the Reloaded one. . Made me think of this blog on The Spectator, a poor article about the Vault: "Unfortunately, Prince had no idea what to do with the gold mine he created. ‘Extraloveable’ is an illustrative case. Originally recorded (but not released) in 1982, it is one of the finest examples of his signature sound, in which old school funk meets new-wave pop. The lyrics – rape threats and all – are spat at the microphone in an urgent, breathy falsetto. A sanitised, easy-listening version was included on his most recent album last year. It wouldn’t sound out of place in the repertoire of a hotel jazz band. The raw energy of the original is entirely lost. This is nothing short of vandalism, and it’s awful to imagine what, in his dotage, he might have done to other gems in the vault. How could he have ruined ‘Electric Intercourse,’ the bittersweet piano ballad that was almost included on Purple Rain? What horrors could he inflict on ‘All My Dreams’, the surreal synth opera that should have been the final track on Sign o’ the Times?"
Yes sadly the blog is spot on with their assessment of the new version of extraloveable. And almost as bad as what he did to 1999 with the "new master." Vandalism is a great description of it and the thought of more great gems from the vault getting that treatment would almost be criminal. The images from the video look beautiful though. [Edited 5/15/16 23:44pm] The blog's completely off in my opinion. The original Extraloveable was a track I always skipped over back in 1990-92 when it kept surfacing on boot cd compilations. It was great to have but it made no melodic or arrangement impact on me. In fact, in all honesty it made me realize the limitation of him pushing his Linn drum sound on everything back then, and how glad I was when he started switching it up on SOTT and then later on Diamonds and Pearls, (even if he blatantly resurrected it on the released version of Can't Stop This Feeling I Got as summoning the vibe of Lets Go Crazy to align Graffiti Bridge with Purple Rain. Hear again I prefer his non Linn drum version that became part of the retro showtime medley with Girl of My a Dreams and We Can Funk speaking of other remakes I favored where he dropped the Minneaopolis sound) Then that unsolicited indie cover version of Extraloveable came out with the woman showering video. It brought to light the melody and chords in a way that opened up my eyes to the composition. It surpassed the original arrangement which was dysfunctional to my ears. Don't get me wrong the Linn sound works of many tracks from that old 1999-Around the World era. But it doesn't on others. For example I think America s tiresome as well as the beat on Computer Blue (the extended boot works because the focus is shifted to this epic suite like form, but the album version has always been a dead spot to me). The new version of Extraloveable, on the other hand (even more so with the horns) is a track I've repeated 3 times in a row when it comes on. It's funky and has the fun push and pull and an explosive celebration I find amazing. The original one was tired the second it was mixed down. Probably why he shelved it. In some cases I get why Prince favored a complete remake, and I am 100% on board with this one. In other cases like The Dance, or Days of Wild, I liked the original better. Ingela said: ^ Of course there is no right or wrong, it's just personal taste. But it does speak to why People gravitate to someone like Prince in the first place rather than another artist. Later Prince was a different artist than young Prince. That's not a bad thing either. But I would describe young Prince as a hefty, solid, granite round rock that could plow through anything with a little bit of momentum. A rock that rolls. And older Prince as a softer, cube shaped limestone that requires a little more force to get going. A rock that's softer and that doesn't roll verry well. [Edited 5/16/16 7:17am] A really nice way of putting it. I usually do not comment on the music post 1988, because my taste went elsewhere, but this song...I haven't heard the original recording but sounds pretty weak to me. I always dreamt that Prince one day would come out with an album like Miles Davies' Tutu, and shock the world. I love him nonetheless. "No one plays the clarinet the way U play my heart"

I Don't like this track, but anyway. With some promotion, it would sell the album. I don't understand why this album hasn't been promoted. It hasn't even been distributed correctly. There are at least 3 music video : SCREWDRIVER, BALTIMORE, RNR LOVE AFFAIR, and now XTRALOVABLE. They could have include these music video on the album, it would have made it more attractive for the casual consumer or for the fans. With Prince's death, the release of a posthum album would have made great publicity. I don't understand neither why, even in URBAN AC radio, they are not playing at least a track from HNR2, such as GROOVY POTENTIAL.
So you can keep dreaming about seeing the XTRALOVABLE video to promote HNR2. I hope someday we will have the answer about why this release has been badly handled.

Count me among the fans who (greatly) prefer the original 1982 track, but I don't mind the Reloaded version - I prefer it to the 2011 version for sure. Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I like the song and prefer the newer versions. It sounds more complete and funky. The original version has more of an urgent vibe and the rape reference puts me off. [Edited 5/31/16 2:57am] ...every night another symphony...
