About a year ago I was able to get a "remastered" version of an extended take of Computer Blue.

I am not sure if it was official/sanctioned by Prince or if it was a fan/enthusiast creation BUT HOLY MOLY DID IT ROCK. When the guitars kicked in it was like Sonic Nirvana. Compared to the thin and tinny sound of the official version I felt cheated.

Within 30 seconds you could really hear the massive improvement a new mix/remaster could accomplish on these 30 year old tracks...all of which haven't been touched - sonicwise - since probably they were mixed/mastered for CD conversion in the late 80s.

If The Powers That Be and Warner Bros. are able to get the classic 80s albums remixed/mastered it would be a huge blessing to Prince's fans new and old.

Wasn't the deal to FINALLY remaster Prince's 80's records agreed upon before he died? I remember hearing something.

I feel that records that were mastered in the very early days of CD mastering (mid to late 80's) benefit GREATLY from all the sonic advances that have been made in the digital realm since then.

Prince's (sometimes thin sounding records) will sound HUGE when that happens.

Plus--bonus tracks, etc. will be amazing.

Who's going to be leading all of this? Reissuing, remastering, vault releases. I'm very curious and hope it's done with class and taste and respect...

It is probably the 7:45 (or so) version which was the final cut before Take Me With U was added.

when remastering is done right,the results can be amazing! You hear things in the music that you never even noticed before.I continue to hope that we will get that remastered Purple Rain CD someday.

Computer Blue is one of my faves. I'd love to hear the extended version you speak about.
