"Don't need no reefer..." Prince and medical Marijuana I hate to say "what if" about this horrible situation but do you think Prince's pain would've been better managed with medical cannibus? or was there any indication that he seeked this route as a form of medical treatment in the past?

Medical cannabis.
Ya. Obviously. There's really no discussion here. People make their choices and they live with them. At one point or another percocet was pushed onto him by a doctor and he trusted that doctor. Then the pharmaceutical company made some money and spent a percentage of it lobbying to your local politician to make sure you don't have a choice on what you put in your body. I remember after he died someone on here was attacking naturalist for steering people away from conventional medicine, obviously locked up in her emotions and assuming that Prince died from the flu. The frustrating thing is that we might not know because of really, really stupid federal rules surrounding... research. Of course, there are other funding sources and other countries that can do the research, but having one of the major players in worldwide research unable to participate has made progress slower than it should be. My feeling, though, is that owing it its far lesser side effects, it would really make more sense to prescribe medical marijuana for pain before trying opiates. And I see all of your creations as one perfect complex

I think its interesting people still think weed makes everyone lethargic. Its not for everyone, no but some people get true relief. The research is also getting better. Mostly what needs to happen is the surrounding stigma of the plant itself and the rest is easy. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Its so ironic that you start this thread today. im watching a program on medical marijuana on Fusion. Its really unfortunate that marijuana and its medical derivitives are not more widely available. "Where you are now is in a place that does not require time." - Rest In Power, PRINCE

I live in Washington state, where it's legal for recreational use.
When you go into a pot store here, there are whole sections devoted to pain management. You can get candies, chocolate chews, inhalers, there are literally so many different forms...
The pain relieving part of marijuana is CBD's. (There are a lot of strains that have no CBD's.) The higher the CBD, the better it works to lower a person's pain.
I know multiple people who suffer from chronic pain conditions who rely on marijuana as part of their treatment plans in Michigan, Arizona, California, & Washington.

I think so, absolutely. I've read that cannibas oil is effective for many illnesses as well, isn't it ? Everything you think is true

I had the same thought as well. I don't know if the cannabis would've handled the pain all on its own, but it could've cut his pill consumption by a great deal. Areas with legalized weed are already noticing a reduction of prescription pill deaths.

I was wondering about this too! I know a few people personally who have chronic pain and they use medical marijuana to ease their pain.

'Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine'... this song apparently dates from 1982. It was around then that the Michael Jackson / James Brown story takes place, usually told with Prince being high on something that wasn't Purple Music. He starts singing it again in 2010, when we now believe his hip issues got really bad. And singing it once more in 2016 when these issues got very serious. Perhaps he was singing the song as self-therapy.

You've verbalized something I'd also wondered about. Though the investigation isn't complete, unfortunately it does appear that overuse/abuse of painkillers was an issue here. If that is confirmed, perhaps (hopefully) this tragedy will add to the general discussion on the topic. BTW, I've never used it recreationally or medicinally. But if and when I get into a chronic pain management situation, it would be good to have facts instead of misinformation about all my options. "I would say that Prince's top thirty percent is great. Of that thirty percent, I'll bet the public has heard twenty percent of it." - Susan Rogers, "Hunting for Prince's Vault", BBC, 2015

Its funny because in the last couple of years or so I had a feeling that he was def on something regularly. Couldn't put my finger on it. There were many discussions on here about wether or not he was using. Most peeps said "no way"! Well, I guess we know now. I thought he was using pot because of the sporadic nature of the HitnRun shows and more recently piano n mic shows. Who knew it was pain pills? It all comes out in the wash in time..My mother has Lupus and Fybromialgia and takes hydromorphine to cope. She would NEVER think of using medical weed in any form because of the stigma it has, but of course weed will not kill you if you use too much. Its all bassackwards thanks to all the disinformation over the years. I hope the news comes out that he did not use regularly and the Percoset thing was an anomaly. [Edited 5/9/16 1:06am]

I have a really good friend who suffers from ankylosing spondylitis. The dude is in CONSTANT pain. Sadly, he relies on opiates to get through the day. I have suggested that he smoke weed, but if he does, he'll lose his opiates.
When I see the amount of pain that my buddy is in, it really makes me sad to think about how much pain Prince was in.

Lots of people have prejudice against medical marijuana, but pills are killing and slaving thousands a year. And it´s accepted by society. :/

I was actually having this convo w/ my Girlfriend in the car this weekend. Cuz it hits me out of nowhere at times... thinking of our friend... and I blurted out "Man... there's no changing the past, but imagine if Prince had used cannabis instead. We should have hooked the brother up w/ some brownies..." but the man made the decisions he felt were best 4 him and we just have 2 accept it. I Love U, But I Don't Trust U Anymore...
