I guess it is easy to have a rare collection like this if you are a 14 year old white boy with $1800 to spend on records. When I was 14, I was trying to help me family eat by hustling side jobs. I bought a real Black Album record for $50 in 1988.

I'm such a friggin idiot. I had that Gett Off one-side 12". Gave it away for some reason. (I think it was some girl).

Also had One Nite Alone piano and Live and in a fit of "simplifying" my life I chucked the digipak and box and just kept the CDs, inserts and ONA picture booklet. IDIOT.

(honestly tho i guess it doesnt matter because I would never sell them anyway).

Still have my Purple Vinyl Purple Rain album.

Yeah, good point.

Still, the best things in life are free and I'd take that set list ahead of any of the records be bought.

I think it's interesting to note that his beef with WB sounds now like it was a bit more amicable that the media portrayals. His interview with Larry King also seemed to indicate that while they got where he was coming from and respected that, they still had to make money. My anger with them is just that they didn't let him put out as much as he wanted to when he wanted to. Who cares about market saturation! He obviously has some diehard loyal fans who would buy just about anything he put out NO MATTER what.

Damn I miss him.
Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

Don't forget your Apollonia 6 cd, you bought that in the 80's too right?

I get the exclusion of Erotic City, Purple Medley and Sexy MF, but can anyone explain why he didn't want 7 (acoustic) on the Ultimate CD?

Not sure, but I read a quote (on this site) from him about not wanting to perform it 'without Mayte'. Maybe the song has too many memories.

Yes, that was from the recent Kevin Smith podcast. He said (back at the celebration) that it wouldn't be right to perform it because she's not here. Not allowing it on a hits compilation seems to take that to another level, which is why I was surprised. I was wondering if there might be something else about the song that might have conflicted with religious beliefs, etc.?

He's performed it countless times since breaking up with Mayte though.

Goo Gone will remove the shelack they applied to the playable side. I'm told toothpaste and nail polish remover does the trick as well... wink

Well, yeah. You do have to be careful not to scratch the disc, just like anytime you clean a disc, but, not too hard. wink

Reminds me, there was discussion here sometime back where some were saying they didn't/wouldn't clean their copy as if it was worth more as an unplayable collectible than a playable one. I'm still trying to figure that logic out... confuse

Because homeboy don't make sense sometimes that's why. "I'm a Jehovah's witness, so I don't want those songs on my greatest hits, but yeah I'll make my first few records with curse words available for download and reissue them on vinyl."

Someone sent me this a month and I rejoined the Prince.org to reply to you. In wasn't by any means a rich kid. Actually as I explained I had recently had my Bar Mitzvah (Jewish right of passage) and like a crazy kid I basically used all
The money I had (given to me in the form of gold coins I was supposed to save for 20 years) and bought the album. People thought I was completely nuts. But I would rather have an original Black Album than gold I guess. And speaking of things being free - as karma would have it - I recently worked on a big project with an ex WB employee who as a bonus, gave me the US Black Album he got as Prince's A&R guy in 87. So there you go. Have a great day. Mathieu

I was thinking that too. not sure how much I had at 14...not really thinking I would pay that much $ now for it either! (although his collection is quite spectacular!!)

okay? When I was 14, I thought I was doing things by scraping together money to have my local record store order the "Little Red Corvette" ext version. I remember it was like $40 at the time incl shipping from England. I was broke for weeks.
