McCartney performed his song Hi Hi Hi(a pro drug song) and then went right into Let's Go Crazy. Odd combo.

Everybody is paying tribute to the man! The only major act just about to tour who won't is probably Radiohead. They won't even cover Prince doing Creep. That's how big a bunch o' assholes they are.

But isn't that because of the spat around him making them take down the Cochella performance. They should grow up and get over that now though.

I hope Adele does on her live special.

Probably not though.

Guess he's just not as important as Michael to have anything nationally televised.

:(
No matter the ©️, Paisley Park "official can never ™️ prince. He gave that to us verbally on Oprah in 1996. You can't take prince away from us, corporate. I mean O ( + >

Nah, just a little nod for Radiohead fans... they NEVER play Creep.

Radiohead are great.

My personal guess is that it came from an album where they were still not fully formed. And maybe they think their career 'proper' starts on The Bends. Or they may just be rebelling against the success of it, the way Cobain (if I recall) said he didn't want to play Teen Spirit.

I'm incorrect, they HAVE played it. Just only a few times on special gigs. It's never been part of the tour setlist in recent years.

I can bring it back to Prince by saying at least he had a good excuse for dropping 1999 when he did. But it was a thrill to hear it again at the O2 in '07. That was long enough in the wilderness for that number. (If he played it inbetween it's news to me)

Thanks biggrin

I remember Prince refusing to play Purple Rain or any hits around Rainbow Children era. He said he was done with them and would never play them again lol

Radiohead have been hating on Creep since 1993, where you been lol ?? If anything i'd say they've made their peace with it at this point.

When they do play it they usually just let the crowd sing it.

This was cool.

Never though McCartney would be doing a tribute to Prince, though - thought it'd be the other way around.

That could be a country song.

Works with the fiddle/violin.

Thanks.

Wait, how could Radiohead cover Prince covering Radiohead? What do you mean?

They would have to cover some other song by Prince. They should completely cover "Computer Blue"! It's their kind of song idea with the changes and the computer theme and long intrumental moments.

Don't know if anyone posted this.

My daughter's in L.A. Children's Chorus, and heard from another choir friend about this on 4/22.

I looked it up a few days ago and watched it.

Chills when all 1,000 join in at "I only wanted to see you..."

The conductor was surprised the kids knew the song - most were born around yr 2000.

Disney Concert Hall is the home of L.A. Phil & Master Chorale. Kind of incredible that his song was echoing off the walls there.

A) I was just kidding, but...

B) It happens all the time. Even in Princeworld.

When the NPG played Make You Feel My Love during a Prince break / costume change, they were most definitely covering a cover, and not covering the Bob Dylan original.

EDIT: However, apologies for my original post, which was more obscure than I realised.

I went to the McCartney show last night. he really paid high tributre to Prince.

From the Currents report:

“Thank you Minneapolis, thank you Prince,” said McCartney after covering a portion of “...o Crazy” while his video screens displayed Prince’s trademark Love Symbol. “So many beautiful songs, so much beautiful music. And he’s your guy!”

Earlier in the show, McCartney mentioned that he was dedicating the performance to the late rock icon, and described spending New Year’s with Prince, at a show in St. Barts. “I’ve been a fan of Prince’s a long time, and I’ve been to many of his concerts in London…but I was very lucky this New Year’s Eve. He played a little show in a little club, and I happened to be there, so we saw the new year in together. That was beautiful. God bless you, Prince!”

The show also ended with purple confetti...

Across the Street for the Target Center where McCartney played is First Ave and overnight someone painted the star gold!
