You know the other day I tried to break my focus away from Prince and play anything but him for one day. It was nice though I didn't stop thinking about P I assumed it was working until the next day I put on Prince, I actually felt happy so I'm realizing I just need to hear his voice right now

This might sound corny, because it wasn't a song, but I had the tears in my eyes when I was watching Under The Cherry Moon last week. At the end, when Christopher gets shot and Tricky comes from behind the rocks saying: "Not him, not now. He wasn't ready, Lord".
That hit me right on the spot.

Sometimes it Snows in April. Because it makes my cry.

And

The Holy River. But that's just because I don't like it.
Grits and gravy, cheese eggs and jam...
Butterscotch clouds, a tangerine and a side order of ham.

"The Dance," original version... so sad to think he's gone... Also, every chorus on "Shoo-Be-Doo..."

In retrospect, it's been rather startling how many times he's referred to death and dying in his songs throughout the years. Violet the Organ Grinder came on during my shuffle today, and hearing the "I'll die but I won't go away" verse knocked me back for a second.

I'd always considered that as one of his more inoccuous, throwaway songs and I'd never given that verse a second thought before.

I was going to say the same thing! It seems like now all I hear when I listen to Prince songs are references to death and dying.

One thing it put into perspective for me was my original thought that Prince knew he was dying and that he had hidden some clues in his final album and songs, Bowie-style. I'm now more inclined to believe that death was simply a constant theme in his music going way, way back. Those who are looking for clues are absolutely going to find them, but I've stopped reading into things because he's been writing about death for so long now. Crazy that it took him dying for me to realize just how much!
