How are you going to continue the legacy that is Prince? As the days continue to go by, I am more and more concerned that once the reports die down and the chaos comes to an end, Prince's legacy will slowly die with it.
Like most of you, I have followed him for two plus decades. We are a small, dedicated community of friends who know and appreciate every album, every concert, every note of music he played. Even though The Hits and B sides are selling out of control, they merely scratch the surface of all of his released music. My children were just as devastated as I about his passing, and they know and are listening to him. my youngest really likes The Dance on the 3121 Album. My only regret is that I lost much of my NPG downloads due to leaving my rights on a broken computer, and they are forever lost. It is my deepest hope that when the dust settles, I will have the opportunity to purchase them again.
Nevertheless, my contribution to continuing his legacy is to share what I have with my children, so they can share with their children. Last year for my 42nd birthday, I invited some young ladies who had NEVER seen Purple Rain to my home. They instantly became fans. If Paisley Park becomes a museum, I'll be taking my children there too. What are you planning to do to keep his music alive for generations to come?

I'm passing it to my 3 year old daughter. I put on the live version of Cool and DMSR that's been floating around on you tube (think it's from the W2 tours?). My daughter and I dance around the house. The other day she bought my her blow up guitar and said "mum play! Mum funky!" She also loves the 'birdy song' aka When Doves Cry. On a side note my daughters name is Lucy, and when she was little I used to sing Starfish and Coffee to her as a lullaby.

I have always been able to surprise people with my favorite artists. Many people don't know the songs Prince wrote for others, or that he can lay down a hard rock track like no other. I saw about a dozen friends post the video of Prince killing the guitar on While My Guitar Gently Weeps back in 2004, and its simply because they didn't know he got down like that, but word spread after his passing. Many of my favorite artists are the same. Prince's legacy will take care of itself. I listened to Prince a lot and got my friends into his music long before he passed, so nothing will change there. While it sucks he's gone, the good thing is he's probably even a cut above many other legends who passed and his image, prolificity and the fact that he was still relatively current (one of my friends knows the song 'Clouds' even though he's not a Prince fan, but because he listens to a radio station from a large city).... I think if his fans go on as before, he's only going to generate new fans.
I myself though, have been amazed at the quality of tracks that were never hits. 'Dreamer' from Lotusflower, Love from 3121, Look At Me from HRP2, Pheremone from 'Come'... While I don't think we'd nominate Prince as a lyrical rap genius, his flow and ability to craft a hip-hop song is pretty daunting. I was surprised he never actually produced an actual rap artist, because his beats were out of this world.
Just hope the lack of a will doesn't hurt things. I would hate to see anything remotely similar happen to Prince with what happened to MJ's first posthumous album. [Edited 5/4/16 22:17pm]

That's the real way to pass on Prince's legacy. My son heard me play Prince's albums on the stereo all the time when he was a little kid. Then when he was in high school and then in his twenties, we went to several Prince concerts together. He's now a die hard fan who taught himself how to play Prince's music on guitar and bass. That's how the music lives on in decades to come. "Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything." --Plato

I guess my part is the discography website. I will finish the chronology part. I will keep updating it as new infos and corrections surface and with posthumous releases. And hopefully I'll find the time to do the alphabetical list section at some point. I'll keep that project alive until I myself pass. There will be Prince material released after that, but at least eeverything he's released in his lifetime will be there. And if I see death coming maybe I'll find someone to continue the project. My 3yr old's favourite is Million Dollar Show. She dances around like a maniac! The other day I put on For You and she got all excited, but when the acapella continued and didnt break to the 1999 intro she looked at me confused and said "Daddy, where is the loud music?"

The only way I can, by continuing to listen to and discover more of his music, and to spread the word. I am amazed at how many people I speak to who say "I don't really know any of his songs". I usually respond, 1st in disbelief, and then by insisting they will know more than they think, and proceed to reel off song after song that as far as I'm concerned, everyone should know. For the level of genius, fame and popularity he had, he seems to be oddly overlooked by the masses. That somehow just makes him cooler, to be that over, that relevant, THAT good, and still have that mystique and a back catalogue that puts most other musicians to shame, and that's only the stuff he decided to release. My other response is usually to offer (insist) that I do them a mix of his most popular tracks and my favourite tracks to introduce them, but it's so hard to whittle down 500+ tracks to a CD or so of music, and everytime I do it, it's always different songs. Depends massively on my mood. LOL I'm actually trying to do 1 as we speak...

Well I have a dinner party this Saturday and my friend who is hosting has asked me to play Prince. I have already told him I am not playing well known stuff. I want stuff that will make them go wow and that they don't know. No hits. Whatever you heard about me is true

There will never be another like him. He's had such an profound affect on me over the past 30+ years. I will miss not seeing him perform live, but I'm so thankful for all the music he made and for all the times I saw him in concert. I will cherish these memories and I may even love the music more than I did, if that's possible. I do know this, I will still be listening to his music weekly for the rest of my life!

I made out a playlist on Tidal just of songs from 2004 onwards which I shared with friends on Facebook.
More generally, I'm a Teacher (of Philosophy, and Religious Studies) and I've been sharing my love of the the man for years. I've taken time to talk about him with all my classes in the past fortnight, I wrote a tribute to him on our online learning environment (Edmodo) and have shared some videos with them there, to start them on their journey of joyful, ecstatic discovery.
They're teenagers and quite a few, unsurprisingly really, don't know much, or any of his music. Some have older sisters or parents who are going through grief too, however. A tiny number actually know him quite well and are very sad too. So, I'm continuing to do my bit to spread his genius and amazing melodies, funk etc. with the next generation, and will so so in perpetuity.

My husband and I are going to record a tribute song, just for the org, its in the works, but I am also going to be successful in my acting career, not give into depression, and live a life worth living, and a life I want to live. Just like he did.

I will continue to play his music on piano and post them as tributes, I plan to do a lot more songs, just need to sit down and grind them out first. Playing his music is therapy for me.
Of course I will also introduce his music to as many people as possible, those that are receptive of course, some folks will just never get it, and that is ok. I have left a small army of people over the years that thank me on a regular basis for introducing them to Prince's music.

My friend and I watched sign o the times on Saturday night. She was really astonished and was sitting right on the edge of her seat by the end, no prompting. I'm sort of exhausted at the loss, so it made me so happy to see her enjoy it. 'Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another.'- Einstein

I'm going to write and direct a full-scale musical unrelated to his life but exclusively featuring his music. I'm going to hire a costume designer, choreographer, live band, Juilliard alumni, a camera crew, and audio engineers. It will be shot on film... And placed into my vault, never to be seen by anyone.
