He went on vacation. 3 days after finding "best friend" dead. Bizarre. http://www.fox9.com/news/...3810-story

Not bizarre at all.

This vacatiion was planned and paid for. The funeral is over.....why would he not go?

Because your boss just died and you need to get his house in order?
Baby, you're a star.

Meet me in another world, space and joy

I'm pretty sure Kirky J knows more about our beloved Prince than any other living soul. Collaborator / Best Man / Personal Assistant / God Knows What Else.

And as all sorts of authorities are all over this and he's the main source of info, it would be nuts if he talked right now.

While the vacaton was already planned, he probably really needed to get away too, especially if he was one of the ones that found Prince. I mean, think about it, would you want to remain at PP where you had found your friend? I can only imagine how traumatic of an experience that had to be on him. Not to mention all the press that was going to be generated, speculation, rumors, etc. I think that would be hard for anyone that was as close to Prince as Kirk was. I wouldn't want to stick around for the circus, and most definitely would not want to be anywhere where all I would see is images in my mind of finding Prince in the elevator. He needed to get away. I can respect that. We all grieve and need time to grieve in our own way, and Kirk is no different from that. My heart and prayers go out to him.

also, something i just considered, with Kirk ending up as Prince's chief aide, and Paisley Park manager, the man has most likely been on call 24/7 for the last 30 years...this is probably his first true vacation in a while...the man probably hasnt had time to focus on his OWN life in years...let him rest a minute...its no secret that P wasnt an easy man to work for/with...and the last few months have probably been hell for him with his boss/friend increasingly ill...the poor man needs to finally take some breaths for his own life, for a change...

He doesn't have any rights to do that without instructions from the estate administrator and possibly approval by the courts. It's not even clear yet if he still has an job, income, or will be able to stay in his home (owned by Paisley Park). Obviously without a will it's not like Prince left him anything. This is not only a traumatizing experience and loss of a loved one, it possibly upends every aspect of his life.

fyi-no such word as "lawyered"

law·yer ˈloiər/ verbNORTH AMERICAN past tense: lawyered; past participle: lawyered practice law; work as a lawyer. "lawyering is a craft that takes a long time to become proficient at" (of a lawyer) work on the legal aspects of (a contract, lawsuit, etc.). "there is always a danger that the deal will be lawyered to death" ...nice try, though...

Of course there's such a word--but the definitions and examples don't quite cover the meaning here, because it's combined with "up." "Lawyered up" means "hired an attorney to represent you in some important matter." For example, my sister-in-law (a lawyer) has had some issues recently with her firm, so, even though she's been lawyering herself for twenty years, she felt she needed some representation in these matters, and thus "lawyered up." And if you're dealing with the police, it's nearly always a good idea to "lawyer up" if you possibly can.

so...in the matter of Prince's death, you dont think Kirk Johnson had ANY dealings with the police or law enforcement, investigating the death?..and he was Paisley Park manager and Prince's bodyguard/valet?...carrying him off airplanes and driving him to random Walgreens?....cmon...this whole convo is almost silly...i dont know what country you all are from, but "lawyered up" is frequently used in the same fashion, here....and besides, as long as the meaning is understood, the attempts at english/grammar lessons on a fansite are unnecessary and bordeline juvenile...

Hey, I don't know what you're upset by--Funkyness was the one who objected to you using it (probably not seriously) and you're the one who first moved into definitions--I was just making sure the usage was clear, since your examples (while certainly ways the word is used) were not the way you used it. But fine. I understand that you felt it was unnecessary, and since it was you who used the phrase anyway, I bow out of that, since it wasn't my conversation to begin with. I certainly didn't intend to annoy you.

But I didn't say anything about whether Kirk has had dealings with the police--just that if somebody does deal with them, that person should lawyer up. I'm guessing plenty of people have done so recently around Paisley Park, and Kirk's probably one of them. I hope they all ultimately have no real reason to worry about it.

I would have thought it was 'leave' in the form of time to grieve rather than a holiday. It's just the way people have interpreted it. The chap is probably besides himself with guilt that he wasn't there to prevent his death.

The truth is no one could 'make' prince do what was right, he probably wanted lots of alone time. However his assistant(s) were clearly actively helping him towards the right road for recovery. It's just a terrible tragedy and people are all looking for someone to blame because it happened so suddenly without much warning. I feel for everyone close to him.

Wonder why he did not call 911 if he was one of the staffers that found him?

I would think that since the doctor's son was for all intents and purposes a stranger to Prince, he probably did not have the same level of emotional reaction that perhaps the others, who knew him, had upon finding something so shocking and sad, and therefor he was the best equipped to make the call (even if he didn't know the address). He mentions to the 911 operator that everyone else there was extremely distraught.

Prince's worst drummer of all-time. May have been his best friend, but oh my god -- how do you go from Michael Bland, John Blackwell, Sheila E. to Kirky J? I'll be asking that question on my deathbed.

Agreed. Poor guy. It comforts me tho knowing that Prince had at least this one very longtime, true friend/employee. A lot of people came and went from his life. Everyone needs at least one person they can depend on to always be there for you.

Hello all loves, I just pray for God's will to be done.

I'm sure it's been a blessing to be cool to close P and vice versa P be close to Kirk, surely P can be sweet, kind, funny, but also at times very demanding.
And he seem to trust Kirk, with managing etc...

Which can as some might say our " our blessings can in times can seem a cursing, however I pray Kirk J.
Truly has the best people in place support in comfort and wise counsel in this time of need

surely this has to be a confusing uneasy time....

So much in the air and going on we can't even know what pressures and issues he could have already been dealing with before all this and now to add too.... what has taken place now....

I pray if no intentionally wrong was done that he will and can find peace ... people and media etc... to be able to properly deal with eveything.

And then again maybe he has found this peace I pray so.

If any typo or punctuation ..error please forgive

Blessings to all.
