Prince & James Brown question I was thinking, did P ever reach out to James Brown to sign him to Paisley Park Records when he left Polydor in the mid 80's, or write any song(s) specifically for James?.

I've never heard of JB being offered to sign on PP, however I remember reading that he offered him Chocolate circa 1986, and that Brown turned the song down. In 1989 Prince was hired to remix Brown and Aretha Franklin's single Gimme Your Love. Prince obviously took the job very seriously and turned a very forgettable song into an incredibly funky 10 minutes-long jam, adding horns and basically redoing the whole instrumentation of the track. http://princevault.com/in..._Your_Love A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

OK thanks. James and P collaborating at some point would have been very fitting and I thought as he brought George to Paisley I was wondering if JB could have been a possibility too. Interesting about Chocolate, I have always thought it was a specifically written song for Morris, maybe he would have been more interested in We Can Funk.

I can't really picture JB singing "the Kamasutra, I can rewrite it..." Chocolate however... That could have worked... 18 jumbo shrimps! Aow!

Can't see a 55 yr old JB singing about being a pimp. This when JB was doing Static and I'm Real with Full Force. PRINCE: Always and Forever

there was deep respect and admiration from prince to jb.Without question.Always and forever. And jb did admire prince greatly , in interviews he has referred to him as one of his students when asked who his favourite students were. He also stated he liked the second part of a prince tour but he needed to clean up the first half lol.I cant remember which tour.
But i don't think prince and jb working together would've worked. They were both such contol freaks and wanted everything to go how they wanted it , i think this could've been a case of ego's clashing.

Janes was not a control freak in his later part of his career. Full Force and others were doing complete songs for him. He wasn't self contained by the 80s. PRINCE: Always and Forever

It was, but after the Time disbanded in 1984 there was no reason to believe they would finally use the song at a later date. A COMPREHENSIVE PRINCE DISCOGRAPHY (work in progress ^^): https://sites.google.com/...scography/

"Chocolate" was also offered to Miles Davis, along with "Movie Star" and "Witness 4 The Prosecution", IIRC.
