When did you start buying Prince music? I can remember seeing the Purple Rain trailer on tv. I know I had the record and cassette, which never left my portable boom box back then. I was 8 back then in '84. Around The world In A Day was next cassette I bought, I remember hearing the beginning to America and thought something was wrong with my cassette deck, lol. Got into cd's in the early 90's, bought Thieves In The Temple maxi-single, it was a wrap from there.....

back then was the coolest thing. I mean there he was on an album cover looking just as cool and as sexy as he wanted to be....ahhh the memories 
I was fortunate enough to have parents in the music industry, so even though I was born in the 70s, Prince has always been in my consciousness. I very clearly remember my parents had his early albums - those covers made a lasting impression! I took over their collection as I got older, but I never had to actually buy my own Prince music until I moved out! First album I bought was the gold experience because of tmbgitw, in 1998. Became an instant fan... The 0(+>, tge, emancipation, crystal ball timeframe still is my favorite prince era. It was not in vain...it was in Minneapolis! | |

Summer of 1985... I watched Purple Rain on HBO and then bought the soundtrack. Then, I bought ATWIAD and realized this guy didn't sit still and liked changing up his style rather than repeating himself and I really liked that. Then I followed that up with 1999 and became an obsessed little fan. lol | |

I bought the UK reissue of the 1999 7" single, with Little Red Corvette as a double A side. I think it was 1984. I was 12. I didn't become a fan until I bought Parade on cassette, in 1986. I then went backwards and bought everything I could. I always remember being bored on a trip to Wales, and my mother gave me £10 to go entertain myself. I went straight to the nearest record store and bought Sheila E.'s self-titled album on cassette, so I could listen on my Walkman. My mother later saw the cassette case and remarked, "You waste far too much money on those people." Those people... lol. She made it sound like a cult. I guess it was. lol | |

When I was little P was always around on the radio and on tv. I remember particularly liking the vids for the Parade singles. I only started getting pocket money plus being allowed to do little paid jobs when I was 14. That was in 1991, Cream & Gett Off were huge on MTV. I bought the D&P cd and just couldn't put it down anymore lol. I also remember trying to rap along with Tony M (yes hell is waiting for me) cuz I can't sing for the life of me haha. same story with the Love Symbol album. At school I did a presentation on 'Thunder' cuz I loved it so much. The year afterward I did a presentation on 'JUGHEAD' just to annoy my new teacher, I knew she'd go off haha. She asked me 'But what's the point of your presentation? You are supposed to discuss your hobbies and interests. Why did you pick this song?' To which I responded , 'Cuz it's fonkay!' | |

So I bought it on cassette for 14.99 used no less. I broke it after a couple years and replaced it with the cd for 45 bucks. After I got a job I had everything legal in like a year no bootleg. My first Prince album was 1999 on vinyl, still one of my faves. Maybe I was 11 years old (6th grade)? Probably too young, luckily my parents didn't listen to the lyrics. Until the end of time

I remember being 12 yrs old & getting the 1999 album as a Christmas present in 1983.. I thought the name of the band was Prince lol.. I really didn't become a full fledged fan until May of 1984 & i never ever looked back.. "When doves cry" was so different & unique for its time..
