I feel like a bandwagon fan

I feel like a bandwagon fan asking the people at Best Buy, Target, etc. for Prince CDs.

I became a Fam back around 2007 and I started buying Prince CDs soon after. Wal-Mart, Target, K-Mart, eBay. I got the main ones - Prince, 1999, Purple Rain, D&P, Dirty Mind, For You.

I also got the current ones - Musicology, 3121, Planet Earth, Art Official Age, Hitnrun Phase 1, Plectrum Electrum and now since yesterday I can add the Hitnrun Phase 2 to the list.

I also got other albums like Come, The Love Symbol, Rave Un2 The Joy Fantasic and LotusFlow3r.

I still don't have them all though (some that come to mind are Emanicipation, The Vault, Rave In2 The Joy Fantasic, SOTT).

Does anyone feel like this now that he's gone?

You became a fam when he was alive, bought several of his music, and you're still buying his music that you don't have after his death?

Love God. Love Music. Love Life.

Does it matter? That you care about his importance as a musucian and person is all that matters imo.

yeahthat I wouldn't worry about it. It literally is what Prince would have wanted for you to do. biggrin He has invited everyone to "get on the boat." Regardless, we're all eventually going to be in the very same position that you are in now. One silver lining around this big cloud is that there are loads of songs that no one has either listened to or heard of that may eventually have a chance to be published, and we will be scrambling together to catch up on listening.

The only thing you should feel bad about is buying HitnRun Phase 2 before Controversy (!).

Anyway just don't judge Prince much by his songwriting output over the last 5-10 years. He lost it a bit in that area but he stayed just as brilliant as a performer. But I would be searching for classic bootlegs (outtakes, concerts, rehearsals) before spending much time on his post 2006 output. However, you can do it all and I envy you in a way because all the amazing discoveries you are going to make.

Agree. It sucks looking like a poser. My mom has some of my CDs and I'm trying to buy some again. I don't want to take them from her now. She's real upset.

I just mumble my other copy is all scratched up or my mom won't let it go now that he's gone

Haha so yeah I cover it at checkout.
No matter the ©️, Paisley Park "official can never ™️ prince. He gave that to us verbally on Oprah in 1996. You can't take prince away from us, corporate. I mean O ( + >

Don't feel bad. I got into him via the batman film - and felt rather late to the party then! You've bought and get into as much as you can - just continue with it. I envy u having the gaps to fill and albums you haven't yet heard to discover. Good luck - and ur no bandwagon jumper, 2007 is the best part of ten years ago. That's commitment right there! Big loves innit!

On a different note..I was in Barnes Nobles and I heard this guy, apparantly born in 1991. He was telling the clerk (he was buying some rock albums) that his 1st concert was PRINCE in 2007 and to this date is is his ABSOLUTE best concert he went to EVER. He was 16 and loved it. He seemed more of a casual fan but it does say something about Prince and his ability to stretch over genre lines. I was smiling inside.

On a 2nd deifferent note, I was in a print shop that ironically had CD, VHS, etc and someone came in looking for a Prince CD. This was a long time fan..Anyway, the clerk said, "when is the last top 10 hit the guy had?" The person said, "I don't know I don't care. I just want some more music that I cannot find from over the years." The clerk said, "Come back in 6 months, all the hype will be gone you can get anything you want. This is how it was with Michael Jackson."

No one will look at your collection and challenge your depth of fandom unless they're just being an asshole, tell them to fuck off snobby.

Oh my, I feel the exact same way!

My dad took me to Barnes and Noble yesterday morning because I wanted to get some Prince mags and they didn't have any but then I remembered they have a music section too. So I went to look for Prince CD's and they only had three. THREE! They had 2 copies of 1999 and 1 copy of "The Very Best". I already have "Ultimate" from years ago and that one is better so I skipped out on that one. I didn't have 1999 though so that's the one I got smile

But yeah, as I was with my dad at the checkout counter, I started feeling like a fake person. The cashier guy barely even looked at me and didn't make any comments or bitchy/annoyed faces but I still felt like he was probably thinking that "daddy's girl" is a typical snobby basic teen girl who just follows trends. I swear that's how I've been feeling now that I've been posting so much about Prince on social media in the last several days. Nobody has said anything though, cause nobody cares about P sadly, but I still feel like a poser neutral

Btw I also went to Best Buy and Walmart looking for Prince CD's but they were all out.

Although they did have one CD of that idiot of Prince Royce. I'm hispanic and Prince Royce is hispanic too and he's pretty popular around here so of course they were gonna have his music but not Prince's mad

I felt something like that too when mj died though I'd loved him for decades, have too many albums/units to count and was about to see him in London, and no fans of his, at least the ones I came across got it. It's the shock/denial speaking, and it's happening to protect us from how painful the death is. I'm sorry I keep talking about myself 7 years ago, but I honestly empathize with you and want you to know you're not alone. I find myself in shock over prince too and I was crying randomly at work after attempting to watch a video, I was not expecting that.
