White House - International Jazz Day April 30, 2016 - Prince tribute Herbie Hancock paid tribute to Prince yesterday at the White House concert:
"Last week we lost a legend. An icon.
The son of a jazz pianist, whose music inspired a new generation of artists to create without boundaries. Courageous, playful, wise, brilliant – and a feast for the eyes and ears.
Prince epitomised the word 'music'.
Tonight we celebrate his incredible virtousity and pay tribute to his legacy that spans every musical genre."

Their tribute included a brief, instrumental rendition of 1999, a rap tribute and the chorus of Purple Rain (sung by Aretha Franklin, who, sadly, didn't even know the words...)
