Michael Padden, a longtime attorney for Prince's siblings Lorna Nelson and Duane Nelson, tells the Star Tribune that Prince had "substantial" problems with opioid painkiller Percocet and cocaine for at least a decade. According to reports, the Nelsons feared these drug problems "would end his life prematurely," and that Duane Nelson had been paying "straw buyers to obtain prescriptions that he then gave to Prince."

This dude is a scumbag. Take a look at his reviews online for his practice.

You know what's weird - the Walgreen's Pharmacy he was photographed at is not as near to Paisley Park than a few other Walgreen's Pharmacies. Why didn't he go to the closer ones? Why this one that was a 7mi away, as opposed to the one that was 1mi away. Then there's a few more close still than the one he was going to.

I noticed that too, he literally drove past at least one location to get there (assuming he was coming from Paisley Park). I thought maybe he lived closer to this pharmacy, but sounds like he was actually living in Paisley Park.

If he was pharmacy hopping, wouldn't the Walgreens computer show that he was going to other locations as well?

Only if their pharmacies are networked. I worked for a large retail pharmacy when I was going through college. If you fill a prescription at one location, the other locations don't always have access to those records.

All Walgreens stores are linked nationwide.

So Prince had just been to Australia. I've seen their border controls. How would he get past customs with a shitload of drugs? He wouldn't.

.

Same with most countries he toured. You can't just bring it with you or easily obtain it as soon as you hit another country.

.

Hell, A spaniel sniffed my legs because i was carrying over a thousand pounds in my pockets once.

.

All this drug 'addict' stuff is annoying.

If his cause of death is determined to be a drug overdoes, particularly with painkillers, I don't think it will harm his legacy in the slightest. People will feel sorry for him, but he will always remain one of the defining musicians of our era.

One must remember that Prince has a reputation for clean living, and seemingly kept away from controversy for the most part. Whereas Michael Jackson died with alot of baggage behind him e.g. child molestation accusations which may well have damaged his legacy, Prince is well documented to have been a law abiding, intelligent, hard working individual. He will be ultimately remembered for his music, not the sideshow that came with it as is the case with MJ.

This is the thing, though. Just because someone has opioid pain medications in their home or even in their system, that does not mean they are an addict or abusing the medication. These medications are more common than you probably think and the majority of people on them are not abusing them or using them to get "high". There are so many misconceptions. What is so irritating is people and the tabloids are making it sound like Prince was abusing medications possibly for years when it just doesn't add up to the workaholic we knew from a distance. True, we would not love him any less, but we still don't know enough to label him as anything. Plus him passing in an elevator, that does not sit well with me to say oh yeah, he just died of s drug problem. No, there is more.

As a person from Melbourne Australia, you are right, it is quite tough to get drugs into our country. However is Prince and his team had prescribed drugs on them, and they were able to provide documentation to support a theory that Prince needed this substance for health reasons, they may well have been allowed to pass with them.

Remember, when we say drug addict, we aren't talking about Herion, Cocaine or Meth in the case of Prince. We are talking about presumably legally prescribed drugs which any qualified medical doctor can provide to a patient.

drugs are killing Americans. We are only 5% of the world population but consume 80% of the worldwide opioid supply. America is just a drug culture full of junkies. I refuse to be hooked on them. all of our geniuses are being killed by drugs

You get the sense Prince may have had a lot of - well, demons may not be the right word, but issues that perhaps made him not think as clearly about this as we would have liked him to.

It breaks my heart that he died young and that he died alone. Wish he had been able to find competent professionals who had been able to help him with his problems IF all that we're reading turns out to be true. (My guess is we may still not have the entire picture - something like sarcoidosis or another illness may be in play here.)

I'd rather wait on autopsy report for this topic, even though CNN is reporting there were four 911 calls to Paisley Park in recent years...http://www.cnn.com/2016/04/29/entertainment/prince-911-paisley-park-calls/index.html "Between 2013 and Prince's death on April 21, four medical emergency calls were made from Prince's home, according to reports from the Carver County Sheriff's Office. Officers responded to 911 calls for medical assistance on October 23, 2013; August 9, 2015; September 6, 2015; and, of course, on April 21, 2016." I think it would add a level of tragedy if it turns out he was struggling with this issue. There is an epidemic going on in this country, someone dies every 19 minutes from prescription drug overdose. It wouldn't change how I feel about him as a human being and a musician.

That is misleading to say the 911 calls were to "Prince's home". It was his studio complex where many people worked. So very possibly some or all the 911 calls were not for him.

The man was dang near 60. His hips were shot. He probably suffered from chronic pain. That can be hard for someone just trying make it from their bedroom to their kitchen to get something to eat. Imagine how hard it must have been for such a driven performer. But there is a difference between needing pain meds to be able to function physically, and just sitting around popping pills for a recreational high. I know someone whose chronic pain is so bad they were actually prescribed methadone.

ya, and elvis died of a heart attack, the boxer Johnny Tapia died of heart failure, many, many, many others. Vesta had an enlarged heart? So, the drugs played no part in that? It's denial, sorry. I can't speak on you, don't know you or your issues. We have a big problem in this country, it's probably in higher proportion in the entertainment biz but everyone is on something. Everyone needs something and no one can face the issue with honesty, it's terrible really.

Why do you say that???
Prince was always very thin. Plus he's wearing all black, which is notorious for making you look thiner. I don't see why this is a pic of someone not well.

Actually to me he looks maybe 5-10 lbs lighter. And thats prob due to being sick.prob only had fluids which is understandable. It was always said that he weighed 128.Well,for being 5'2 thats not bad at all. It may show in the reports that he was down in weight some what.MJ was 5'11 and 138 i believe now thats bad.

I only recently realized he's been wearing those type of shoes for a while, right? I watched a live performance on some tv show and he's wearing what looks like orthopedic shoes. Those heels and dance routines really did a number on him... sad

I honestly don't see a difference from the top pic you posted, my friend. Perhaps slimmer face, yes, but I guess the afro made his face look smaller aswell.
It's just sadder if he really had any ilness on top of everything else...

You can tell from the rubber end of that cane that it was not used as a prop. sad

Yeah he's always looked "sick", I remember back in 1994 or something I had that Sacrifice Of Victor book, and a relative was looking at it and said, "he always looks sickly, doesn't he?". The photos posted above look just as he always have. I think it's his behavior that changed that added the 'something's going on with him" feel. He did also look more sick than ususal lately, but it's not shown in these pics.
