My Little Pill Listening to The Vault and feeling unomfortable. I never was happy about him going back to Warner Brothers but I pulled out the last album before he left them and this is standing out:
My Little Pill All my cares and troubles dive right off my window sill everytime I pop my little pill
Then the next song (There is Lonely) immediately starts up.....
Is it me or did the room just get darker Is it me or did I just lay down and die It this a dream or did the world just crumble at my very feet How in heaven will I ever be all right There is lonely and there is lonely Then there is how I feel right now
It's like these words all just match with the tragedy....even with the recording of There is lonely taking place in the month of April.
Perhaps not knowing is getting to me but I just pray his soul is at rest and safe.

What you say makes a lot of sense to me. "No one plays the clarinet the way U play my heart"

This song came to mind as soon as the whole painkiller OD hit the news. Remarkable... This song is from the I'll do anything sessions, I guess from 1992 or something. Imagine being in pain for over 20 years... Aweful...

I wish the music had been included in the film... at least the title track, that's a great song. "So fierce U look 2night, the brightest star pales 2 Ur sex..."

Honestly, it is my assumption it was autobiographical. I don't know if it's true, it just struck me as remarkable. But the lyrics came from his mind, so there must be part of him in it...

I always thought Prince's songs were from a first person point of view to a degree. Particularly when he sang of loneliness, which he did in a few songs. To think that he was suffering for so long really hurts. I get angry at him being called an addict. If he had pain, then how else was he supposed to deal with it. I saw an accointaince with 1 hip injured go through pain to the point of him being on the verge of tears daily.
My sweet little Prince...............

Besides Little Pill and Let's Go Crazy- the following lines have been uncomfortable for me: Automatic: You ask me to forgive you, when you know, I'm just an addict My Name is Prince When it comes to funk, I am a junky Just kinda hard to hear him say those words now. Surprise, surprise.
Another treat. Another trick.

What you say makes a lot of sense to me. I've been trying to figure out what is so significant for him about April. I was thinking, as someone also from the Midwest, March and April are really rough months here. The weather is awful for one. You can get a random 80 degree day and tomorrow it snows. That gets really hard to deal with. You just want winter over. It gets REALLY depressing, both months are painful mentally also painful if you have joint problems. The cold damp is horrendous. I can barely function. I can deal with winter... It just is and you get used to knowing you'll be inside watching movies and stuff. Come April though it just gets unbearable. You just want to be outside with warm sunshine. Maybe that's why some of his sad stuff comes in April. It would be interesting to see a timeline. Surprise, surprise.

I haven't seen the movie but given that it was composed for a musical movie it was definitely composed from a character's perspective in relation to the script. Now it is possible that Prince reworked a vault song as he'd done with Empty Room but if so, the information is not available: as far as we know it was composed specifically for the film. People are reading more into these old songs than is really there. He was still doing splits and stage diving when this song was written (and written specifically for a scene in the film), so doubtful he was popping pills back then.

This painkiller problem supposededly started in the mid 2000's, because of the rumored hip surgery, not way back then. I'd say the obvious telling factor is in 2001 he had stopped doing splits. Never saw sign of splits since the the hit n run tour before the ONA tour.
The pill song from "I'll do Anything" was probably, ironically, about one of the characters in that movie from an amused bewildered perspective where he is voicing the character. My art book: http://www.lulu.com/spotl...ecomicskid

Exactly...and it is not unreasonable for a 43-year-old to stop doing the splits. I don't buy the overreaching anaylsis regarding his opioid use. He did not have the signs of an addict until his last few months.

It's no more or less significant than those who see a connection to the "elevator" reference in let's go crazy. And at this point we don't exactly know how long he was taking pain meds. It's assumed to be around the time of hip surgery but theres no reason to think that it hadn't been causing pain much earlier than that. People don't typically wake up with pain and immediately go for an operation. We can't say how long he had been dealing with issues related to pain. I have read things that said the pills went back into the 1980's.
