I really wish I had a copy of the actual TGE and Come he considered "final" and turned over to WB in '94 or whatever. I try to compile the early configurations on my own but it's not the same.

The album isn't anywhere near a favourite of mine, but I love P Control, Now, and Billy Jack Bitch.

Eye Hate you is one of the greatest songs Prince ever recorded. It is quintessential Prince. Right up there with The Beautiful Ones. It starts as a gentle ballad bursting with emotion that ends with a violent love/hate sex guitar solo. One of my favorite songs ever. The extended versions just make it even better.

The final version of "Come" given to WB and rejected is available from many years.

It is the "Come Test Pressing" CD, in pristine quality.

Gold is one of my favorite songs ever.

I hate the interludes, but the rest is very good.

It's not my favorite but I've always dug "T.G.E". In some ways it is reminiscent of "P.R."..from the melodies, grooves, funk rock and guitar solos. Hip hop and R&B was the mainstream on radio and "T.G.E" was so different from the norm (like "P.R." was 11 years before). "Shy"is my fave track..Sly Stone meets Joni Mitchell in a flash.

Pound for pound, Sign Of The Times notwithstanding this is the most satisfying Prince thang of all. I was in a bad relationship when this came out just horrible hanging on for low self esteem type chyt. Infidelity all of that.

I kid you not this record was the soundtrack to that. Every song spoke to it from P Control thru Eye Hate U. I'm gone cover yo ass with this sheet. Classic.

They brought out CJ on MSNBC the day he died. She said he wrote a song about me.
Billy Jack Bitch indeed.

What always suprised me is that it seems Love Sign was never even considered for the album when it had been kind of a summer airplay-only hit in 94.

I think that had a lot to do with the timing of its recording in the spring of 1994 (after everything on Gold had been recorded) - and Prince's desire to give WB a big "FU" with the release of the 1-800-NEW-FUNK album on his own label. Remember, Prince recorded the video for Love Sign (and released it to radio with promo remixes) at a time when WB was trying to promote Letitgo as a single, and he was refusing to shoot a video for it. If prince hadn't been fighting with WB, the released versions (and timing thereof) of Come and the Gold Experience would both have likely been different.

Fuck. Are you serious? I've got thousands of Prince songs in my library, but not this. It's always something new.

This website called Tidido has "Come Orginal Test Press" and I heard the early version of Endorphinmachine on it. It also has Interactive and other songs I didn't know of before

I remember the time I was working at VH1/MTV.

.

VH1 was launching and the first video ever to be played was DOLPHIN.

.

Happier times for sure!

P also kicked ass at the AMA's that year doing the "Gold" medley. That when it was uncertain if "T.G.E" was going to be released or not.

TGE was my first Prince album and is what made me a fan, and I worked backwards, forwards and sideways from there with the rest of his music. To me it's sheer brilliance.
