42616-prince-getty-05Prince was addicted to Percocet for years before his death ... TMZ has learned.

Multiple sources connected with the singer's family tell us, doctors prescribed the powerful painkiller in 2009 when he was suffering from hip problems. We're told he had corrective surgery sometime around 2010, but by then he was hooked on the drug.

Our sources say Prince developed a sometimes debilitating dependence on Percocet in the years that followed.

TMZ broke the story, Prince almost died from a Percocet OD 6 days before he was found dead in an elevator.

427-prince-walgreensAnd as we reported, Prince made at least 4 trips to a Walgreens pharmacy near his home in the week leading up to his death.

We're told the feds are now investigating who prescribed the drug, who filled the prescriptions and under what circumstances.

Last week TMZ claimed Prince overdosed and they refused to reveal their so-called sources. Last night The National Enquirer had to throw in their 2-cents to out-do TMZ, once again they won't reveal their so-called sources..So many people are flapping their Gums but don't wanna go Public..I told a co-worker this morning that it's best that we wait for the completed autopsy report...Once the full autopsy report is released to the Public with the toxicology results then the next phase of healing from his passing will begin...

I know sad I'm starting to feel more anger now in my grieving process thinking about this. I wish he would've taken care of himself more. I can't believe nobody kept close eyes on him.

First, I was angry at all the hypocrites that came out after his death, then I got mad because all my so called "friends" and "supporters" aren't here for me when I need them the most. I keep making posts on social media that I'm not doing well and nobody gives a sh!t. I know I must sound so bratty and selfish but it's so hard to believe that someone can't take 20 seconds out of their lives to leave a comment. It was only when I voiced my opinion on another artist (intentionally) that someone wanted to start a argument with me. So yeah, to say I'm pissed is an understatement.

I haven't posted on prince.org for years but I can't let this go by. My heart is broken by all of the headlines and so called news reports that claim to know what happened in Prince's last days. Harvey Levin is THE MOST DESPICABLE PERSON WALKING THE FACE OF THE EARTH! He capitalizes on peoples hurt and misery and I honestly don't know how that man sleeps at night. I can only hope there is a special place in Hell waiting for his miserable soul!!! Get a real job and stop making $$ off of other people's suffering!! I refuse to watch his show and could care less what he has to say. I'm waiting for the toxicology report to come back and what will be, will be. If it was an overdose it isn't for me to judge. No one knows what kind of pain P was in and if it truly was an overdose I'm sure it wasn't intentional. Prince gave us what he was put on this earth to give us. Let's all be thankful he touched our lives through his music and through all the great concerts he gave us. He will live on in our dear memories and through all of his GREAT MUSIC, despite how he departed from this world. HATE KILLS BUT LOVE WILL ALWAYS PREVAIL.
