Any one else feel guilty about watching you tube? I have watched 2 videos on you tube but I feel guilty. Ugh I don't want to feel guilt. Haha I just confessed. | |

Fuck no. Prince was absolutely obtuse as shit about that stuff. I love the guy, but nobody's perfect. And in this respect, he was way, way off. | |

I know i should feel guilty but i really do not. I am just listening to so much good prince music that i have not heard in years and I am enjoying it. I know the videos will be taken down eventually so I want to enjoy them for now.
I just need somebody to post "style", "saviour", "my computer", and "Lady Cab Driver" and then my prince marathon will be complete and I can sleep like a baby.  [Edited 4/27/16 18:19pm] | |

Not me. I'm honestly grateful. I was able to do what I've always done when I've had great losses in my life. Totally immerse myself in Prince's music and dance, cry, laugh, sing, scream, reflect on memories and pray until I felt better and okay to go on. The only difference with it being on Youtube was that put it at my fingertips and I didn't have to stumble around an emotional wreck, trying to pull out old harddrives, boxes and crates. I knew from the start that I loved you with all my heart. | |

I'd feel guilty if someone else was profitting. But in terms of celebrating his life and sharing his art, the YouTube videos are a godsend. | |

What he/she said. But would add that for someone so obsessed with counting every bean and employing lawyers to tackle youtube vids, it seems remarkably short sighted not to leave a will unless JW's don't leave a will. ?

No guilt. I was one who never got bootlegs, never got stuff on YouTube, etc (I think there was another orger who felt adamantly about not possessing bootlegs too). But (this is hard to say) since he's no longer here, I don't think he would consider it any of his business anymore - that's also probably why he might not have left a will, because once you're gone, the things of this world are nothing to you anymore. | |

I too am walking the fence between wanting to immerse myself with the sights and sounds of a dearly beloved one. And I can fully appreciate both sides of the arguement but.......oh my gosh, listening to him teach band members Purple Rain or watching an interview or something where he is being silly.....it comforts somehow. Hard to explain. I have never bootlegged or copied anything of Prince's. I get it. But this, I guess I am guilty as hell ( watching and listening anyway ). Peace and Love. | |

Nope. I don't own any bootlegs, etc. If things were available to me I woud have bought it. I love finding tings I had forgotten about, and sharing with casual fans/friends. Not that this matters in the thought process, but we all I am sure we have spent lots on Prince. I don't believe most of us are stealing or profitting from it. No different that if I was watcing a video on MTV. After I am done I turn it off.
I understand his wanting to own his own music, but I never understood the lenghts he went to to hide these videos, etc on the internet. Anyway, that being said, very sad and miss him and his music LOTS already. I'm disapointed not to be able to share a Prince concert with my daughter. She asked me to go last year, and I didn't take her (she's 12). I said I woiuld take her next time... | |

Not guilty. I've never owned a bootlegged anything. I paid for all my Prince material fair and square. Which used to really irk me about the videos. Why not let them be up there? I paid my dues. I just wanted to see the videos that went to the songs. His live performances are what set him apart. They are what took me from casual fan to totally falling in love with him. You would have to be dead not to be transformed on some level by his energy and passion and the all out effort and emotion he put into performing. Totally gutted those opportunities are forever lost. No there is no reason to feel guilty. He only didn't want his vids on youtube because he wasn't getting paid for them. That is not a factor now. | |

Nope. I didn't feel guilty then, and I certainly don't feel guilty now. People need to see and hear about Prince, and learn about his legacy. Alot of millenials don't have any idea about how good he was. |

I haven't watched any youtube videos this week. I think I'm in the minority here, but I'm quite uncomfortable with the extent of youtube rejoicing and Vault speculation currently going on. I can see the arguments for it being a celebration/spreading the greatness of his art and life, etc, but at the same time he passed less than a week ago, and half of the discussion seems to surround ways to get more music that he specifically wanted to control tightly. It's still his art, and it should be treated the way he wanted it to be (or the way a reasonable person would think he would want it, in the absence of instructions). I can't help but feeling its all a bit disrespectful, especially so soon. So, yes, I WOULD feel guilty. Sorry if this sounds harsh. I think he gave us so much art, that it doesn't sit well with me that people are acting like they (or we) are owed anything. I'm not innocent of ignoring Prince's wishes, I've got plenty of bootlegs, etc, I just feel less comfortable about ignoring what he wanted now that he's gone - or at least right now I do (I know that's strange). I also acknowledge that what he wanted when he was alive, may not be what he wanted after he was gone, so he might have wanted youtube flooded with videos or the Vault released in its entirety, but we don't know (yet). Ps I'm pretty sure profits are made through youtube, so I don't think that's a valid argument. I'm fact, it is an objection of many artists that they're seeing little of the profit derived from traffic. How you feel that matters, or not, after an artist dies is another matter. | |

Now that I think about it, I sorta do. But hey, I've seen some pretty cool stuff lately. I saw this performance of "Nothing Compares" that I don't ever remember seeing before. Prince looked like Jesus in it with long hair and a purple drape robe and Rosie Gaines was in it too. It's from the Rave era.
