Like many I'm sure that didn't want to, I did think about that day (God forbid if it ever happened, I used to think) and although I knew that he would get some reaction, (most of all from fans like us), I never in my life, thought that his death would get the global reaction it has. It's shocking! His death has affected others in ways I never thought it would. I pray that somehow, God has given him a view of it, to see just how much he was loved.

Most of the people who run the media now are in their 30s, 40s, and 50s. This is the prime age range to be a Prince fan.

I haven't been able to watch much of it - it's too real for me. But from what little bit I have seen and what I've heard, it does surprise me a bit, yes.

I knew he was beloved by fans and musicians, but I didn't expect this level of overwhelmingly positive sentiment about him. It makes me mushy to think about it.

Feel free to join in the Prince Album Poll 2018! Let'a celebrate his legacy by counting down the most beloved Prince albums, as decided by you!

I always assumed it would be a huge media event and people would show their appreciation for Prince on a massive scale. I do think the attention will die down soonish, depending on both when the tribute concert happens and when the results of the autopsy are in

would recieve the amount of praise that he is recieving at present or did you thnk his death would be glossedover, short media soundbite and thats it

No, I didn't. I didn't think the world would react to it like they did Michaels, but this seems like it's overshadowing that and rightly so. Even Brietbart, Fox, the Drudge Report, EVERYTHING and EVERYONE was talking about it and giving him PRAISE. Almost every great monument turned purple, he's running non-stop on the music entertainment channels, NASA gave him a nebula, this is so huge. All of this is and lets hope he's releasing Vault albums and music videos for years/decades to come.

[Edited 4/25/16 10:01am]

cool! thumbs up! you don't happen to have a link for that news? i follow nasa on fb but haven't

seen that particular bit of news. i could have missed it though since my entire fb is about 98%
prince since thursday. anyway, that's cool. is it a purple nebula? smile

The NASA one was beautiful. One of the first things I saw. My husband told me and I got some texts but couldn't face reading the news myself for a few hours so I eventually went to Twitter as the servers here crashed and my timeline was just full of respectful, heartfelt comments. But I was super glad to eventually get back on here with the people that really stuck with him.

well, other greats have passed and only the coverage of Mike rivals,,,Prince' coverage is way more complimetary of the person IMHO

Agreed. Seemed like there was definitely a lot more of the sleazy, bizarre stuff when MJ passed. The majority of news outlets have been pretty respectful and focuses on his work, legacy and philanthropy.

I'm not at all surprised but I live in MN so of course he was nothing less than a legend to us wink But think about it...anytime Prince showed up even for a brief moment on an awards show or whatever the crowds went crazy...he got so much love and (well-deserved) respect from both everyday fans and from people in the industry. He was almost god-like. His seeming aloofness and furtiveness made him all the more fascinating and interesting. It was almost as tho there was nothing he couldn't do. Just when you think you've seen or heard it all he blows your mind. Again. People take note of such greatness. He deserves every bit of the attention even tho I wish it would go away already...all the coverage, all the speculation...it's almost too much right now.

I did not think he would be shown so much love. Despite all the respect he had from the music community, It seemed the press largely ignored him because he didn't play their game. Seeing the outpouring of love and respectful coverage is very comforting. I honestly thought I would have to hurt some people.

I really did not expect the level of coverage that his death received in the UK. It has been quite amazing.

The thing is that Prince could have been voted Artist most likely to live past 100 years old just a few weeks ago.

In that context, when I thought of the coverage Prince would receive upon his death, I imagined a world decades from now where he'd be long semi-retired, still renowned but for a dwindling group of songs as his original fans died (mostly before he would).

Instead he died young and gold-plated iconic. I'm happy he's getting the recongition he's getting, but not about the way he got that attention. It is far more than I expected only because he wasn't supposed to fucking die to begin with.

(Pardon my French).

I had absolutely no doubt, because his music, style, and creativity were so unique, the world knows they have lost an absolute treasure. When you try to wrap your mind around who's the next Prince-type, NO ONE come to mind. NO ONE.

I've always thought Prince was a second Beethoven. A classic artist who in hundreds of years will not be forgotten. In Utrecht in NL , De Dom (City Cathedral) played its bell chimes in Purple Rain. What an honour. Hope the link works from outside the country...Scroll down in the link to hit play

He is Prince Rogers Nelson, after all.

But still, it blows me away. All the buildings turning purple....the bells playing his music at the city hall....all the live covers....even NASA acknowledged him...

He deserves every bit of it. ALL OF IT.

No, but I would never have thought he would die at 57. If he had died 20-30 years from now, it wouldn't be like this. It was so sudden and unexpected. He was loved and respected and we weren't ready. It is good to see all the purple monuments and buildings being lit up. It's really powerful.

Of course I knew it would be big news, but not nearly this big. Just compare it to the coverage David Bowie got. Prince's death and the tributes are so much more. And I still can't believe I'm typing "Prince's death". It still seems unreal.
