Which songs are you playing in tribute?

I suppose the music soothes some, but it's a little too soon for me. Almost every song reminds me of some part of my life. Still, I have played Sometimes it Snows in April and Reflection.

So which songs have you played in rememberance of Prince?

I have listened to Sometimes It Snows In April yet but I have listened to Come Back and Reflection. I had my iPod settle to shuffle only Prince songs, Don't Talk To Strangers came on, "Little darling, gotta go now, don't know when I'll be coming back...." I had to shut it off. Couldn't bear to hear those words from him in that tone of voice.

Christopher damn!

Everything and anything the man did ... had his whole collection on random shuffle. Sometimes its eased the pain, sometimes its brought tears to my eyes. Suspect it'll be like this for a while.

Can't stomach much (too soon). But listening to "A Case of You" his obscure yet hauntingly beautiful Joni Mitchell cover.

From the lyrics and ringing so true "Remember u told me love was touching souls? Surely u touched mine..."

heart still raw. cry

The NPGMC Ahdio from September 2001 was the first thing I listened to after I heard. It's weird. I've been burned out lately and havent listened to Prince at all in months. I check the news updates all the time and I'm reading tributes, but I really dont want to listen to his music at all. I was teaching when my phone blew up with texts. My college students either hadnt heard of him or didnt care. I blame his youtube policy for that.

A lovely Orger recently shared with me a bootleg of Purple Rain - Severe Storms, it was on my iPhone as I got into my car to drive to work yesterday just an hour after waking to the news of his passing (I am in Australia) and the song that came on was "Beautiful Ones" - but I have not listened to anything since - I just cant - not yet..............not ready..............

Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

Ive just had 5 hours of live shows that remain from my once extensive collection of 'unauthorised' recordings.

I used to have 3 x 320Gb HDD's of MP3 and 2 320Gb HDD of Video shows. I lost most of the material in the (not so) great HDD crash of 2008 sad When my PC decided to go haywire and fry up, taking the CPU, GPU Card and HDD's with it not to mention the Motherboard, I still blame the FBU or CIA lol..............

Sad days as I lost so much stuff. I have less than 200Gb of stuff left and no video material sad

I have listened to two 1985 Purple Rain shows and Sign of the Times tonight ............With a glass or five of Red wine, toasting Prince with each and every Glass filled......... biggrin

I then finished with last December.

and now, time to sleep for me.

Life is short, don't be a dick.

R.I.P Prince - Thank you for your Music, Your Talent and for helping me find out who I was and am.

Well, wasn't in tribute as such but just heard 'Affirmation III' on random and well.. that was tough to get through. Once a song comes on, i leave it on and listen all the way. It's always been a habit of mine, a bit OCD.

.

Back to when I was happiest as a fan it is. Mid 80s. It's all so hard though. Lyrics mean something different now. neutral

I'm not ready to delve into his non-radio stuff. That one sentence in that one song could send me tailspinning right now. Easier to stay in safe territory and just listen to the stuff I've heard everywhere for thousands of times.

My kids (2 and 5 yrs)have been obsessed with America for the past week so we listen to that every morning driving them to school. But today I listened to Strange way of saying I love you, Cosmic Day and Everybody wants what they don't got. Newer boots that I had no history with. Those are easier to take. I realized I've been listening to Prince almost every day for prob 35 yrs or so.

For some reason yesterday morning I decided to listen to art official age going to work. breakdown, time, way back home, poignant. Gold standard about being the best u can b. Then at the end of when the news break, sitting at my desk listening to way back home. Repeat 3 times. Then MPLSSOUND, just because the song title there'll never b another like me, reflected the Prince legacy. Today I decided just to shuffle him, freakishly it started with the acoustic version of love making me think, people have to hear his stripped down versions of tunes.

On the way home I listened to Montreaux 2013 NPG show. That was difficult, I cried in the car. It kicked in that there will be no more shows. Tonight watching bet, mtv, rmc, tributes on TVs.

The best one was canal plus in France. They showed all his live performances on the channel since the 90's with some interviews. That was brilliant but tough. He made me cry when he took an acoustic guitar and played Jonny b Goode with shelBy and Andy singing. Closed with DMSR high fiving giddy fans when leaving the studio. Try canalplus.fr it may be there if you are a subscriber.

I know some people can't but I have to listen. I also listened to the scandalous sex suite 12" vinyl which arrived in post yesterday morning.

Can't do Sometimes In April at all. Thinking about the lyrics breaks me down...

Listened to the first show from Atlanta last week, the Munich Aftershow from 87, the souncheck from Miami 85, The Flesh sessions, lots of instrumentals, jams, aftershows, rehearsals... anything that grooves, no hits, nothing that hits the mark lyrically.

Not dead, not in prison, still funkin'...

First song I played after hearing the news was The Holy River. Don't really want to hear much singing right now, so it's N.E.W.S. and the two Madhouses. Listening to Eight with my cat now before going to bed.

i've been playing N.E.W.S. and the Madhouse albums a lot, too. it's just difficult to hear his voice

right now. so the instrumental stuff is better.

tried the september 2001 ahdioshow a few times but it's hard man sad

yeahthat

I just can't.

But I am sooo glad I got my hands on HitNRun 2 from Electric Fetus. I admit, I think the first one was better, but now this last one will have a whole new meaning. I'm sure I'll get into it someday, but it won't be for awhile.... I just can't hear his stuff now because I don't have fellow fans I'm close to in my city, don't know about the gatherings or listening parties that might be happening. But in my mind - wow - can't get lyrics or images from his videos out of my head. It's like an ongoiung soundtrack playing in my brain - it's comforting and saddening at the same time.
