and they talk about lunch but it's not about lunch and it's surely not about pasta. the pasta's burning because they lost track of time.

Why did you come to this life?
How can you be everybody's dream,
and still be somebody's wife?

Our bodies got used to each other"

There is definitely something in that song that seems to try and say something about... now. The pasta being left unattended and burning to me represents his unfinished life and possibly all the unreleased music left unattended in the vault. Being born on the Woodstock Stage could refer to his fame birth not his real birth, so maybe he felt that if he had been famous earlier, then he would have passed away with all of the other 1960's big stars like Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison, Janis Joplin, etc. So now he is just waiting and waiting for his turn. I agree on most of the other points you have mentioned plus there is also a reference about the full moon, and June (referencing to SOTT) of course. As death is mentioned a few times in Sign O' The Times this may well be about his own death, and the timing of it. All this suggesting that perhaps he knew he was on his way.

That he was quoting SOTT in the June lyrics now seems way more likely than not, since he's linked these two otherwise random songs together. Perhaps as no one noticed at the time, he was trying to make it more obvious. He wasn't going to go on Oprah and say he'd become addicted to painkillers, but maybe this was the Prince way of dealing with it. I mentioned this on another thread, but Prince also dusted off outtake Purple Music right at the point we now believe his hip problems became severe, around 2009/2010. 'Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine, coz Purple Music does the same to my brain, and I'm high'. Perhaps he was singing this to himself, and doing it in public for extra emphasis, to help him beat whatever he was taking. Like singing 'Painkillers? I'm Prince, goddamit!'

Interesting thought on 'Purple Music'. It crossed my mind too. Why bring that one out now? and play it so hard too? Lots of emphasis. What's that saying? 'Hidden in plain sight'?
