I played songs at random in the car. When the tears weren't running down my face, the songs just sounded different. I didn't expect that. I think it will pass, but it was like the songs themselves were dead now that he's no longer alive.

I know what you mean... I've felt that way the last couple of days about a lot of it, that they are one dimensional and lifeless now that the man that made them is gone...

Yes I am struggling with this too so have not played anything
Thank you Prince for every note you left behind 💜

I still can't listen and I don't know why. I want to honor him and pay tribute, but I just can't.

No, not right now. And I don't know when i will be able to sit down/stand up & listen to his music again

During the coverage on TV, i muted the sound whenever a music clip came on (which was mainly When Doves Cry & Purple Rain)

I don't want his music to be linked (in my mind) to his passing, and the pain we have all been experiencing these past few days

I’ve been listening to his music on and off for four days (redundant radio tributes, my own collection, etc.). It’s hard because I’m still disappointed. However, once I get started it’s hard to stop (too much fun) but I have to consider my neighbors next door (with the bass thumping and all).

The party will continue this week and I’m going to push myself to listen until it’s all out of my system.

Sorry Ellice & Robert (my neighbors) but I’m in a funkdafied mourning.

listen to the music people, it's all about the music and it will heal you more than hurt you, plus tears are ok, pain is ok, listen to the music!

That is me right now. I went to the Spike and Questlove celebrations but refuese to give WB my money by seeing it in the theatres.

I want to listen but the weirdest songs set me off and I can't start crying at work.

It's hard, always will be and I don't think it will ever be okay.

Nope, I still cannot. I tried to force myself but it was too painful. I hope I can listen to his music and feel happy again some day soon. All we have left is the music.

Same with me. Much rather listen and smile through the tears. Right now I'm listening to TRC.

I still can't listen to it just yet. I find myself humming or singing a line or two of my favs, but then I just stop because I start to get sad again. I watched the video of D'Angelo singing Sometimes It Snows In April that he performed on Jimmy Fallon, and it made me cry, because in parts of it his voice sounded like Prince. I don't know when I'll be able to listen to his music without feeling sad or wanting to cry.

First let me say what a blessing it is for the org and for threads like these...just to read everyone's posts makes me feel not so alone or crazy.

It has been so difficult to listen but so hard to stay away (as many have mentioned). It is painful and it brings tears to my eyes as I am writing. I cannot remember a day in the past 34 years that I have not listened to a Prince song, and today is the first day that I am trying to b/c it it just so painful...but that hasn't stopped me from reading the org, looking at the news, searching youtube b4 things r taken down....

so hard, so senseless...such a pain and can't stop thinking about him with sadness. i am thankful that his music lives on, and i know it will get better with time, but for now it really sucks...just hearing his voice right now would hurt more...i have been going back and forth btwn listening and not since this happened...just trying to take one day off (but it's hard bc i keep singing his songs in my head or will be reminded of a song by something that someone says or it just hits me that he is dead when i was busy doing something else ('busy doing something close to nothing but different than the day before"...there it goes again!). i have family and friends that empathize with me (i have heard "I thought of u as soon as i heard"....but what makes it harder is that they just don't get it (again, thank goodess for all of u b/c u do get it!!)

anyways, just trying something different today...just trying to get through a day a time.....

I can't listen to Power Fantastic or God..or 4 the tears in your eyes...or purple rain..or snow...the funky stuff I can.

I've always had a hard time listening to any of the songs I've listed without crying. I guess that shows his skill and power as an artist!

Don't force it then, when you're in the mood to do so, embrace it and whatever feelings come. That's what I'm doing, playing him when I feel like rather than out of obligation.

I made the mistake of putting on the Emancipation outtakes. "I Am the DJ" was fine but "Goodbye" was a really bad move.

No, I can not listen to anything yet. After the first few notes, I get teary-eyed and cry again.

I'm still in stunned disbelief about it, over a week later. Can't get my head around it.

That said, listening to his music makes me feel closer to him again.

Only "A Case Of U", nothing else. I'm thankful there's so much other music besides Prince I like, otherwise it would be even harder.

When he died I cried so hard. I had been okay since, although I was super super sad. Today I plugged in my house speakers 2 listen to his music, put on his Purple Rain album and played When Doves Cry...I just fell apart again and cried so hard. Gonna take a hot shower and relax.

I've been listening to music of his that I haven't actually heard before, like 2 or 3 songs, it's hard but its joyous to hear, for me its new music.

The "A.O.A" thread that I read (and participated in) yesterday made me dig it out and revisit it. Chilling to listen to lyrically. I was in a jazz mood today so between Charlie Parker and Coleman Hawkins I slipped in "Xpectation". I'm still deeply gutted, but a small sample of the music (and being here) is helping me get through.

I started out with complete Lovesexy album the night it happend and after that I could only play two, three songs a day, or a video. After a couple of days wondering around I started playing his music All day long. Complete albums from recent to old in no particular order. Only once I played an album by Foals and it felt like betrayal. Also watched Montreux 2009. It keeps HIM alive for me, but it gets me every time I realise he's really gone. I have accepted it but it also feels so Unreal, almost as if I still have not accepted his passing and the real breakdown is yet to come. I hate that feeling.....

I lie to myself daily, saying that I don't want to listen to Prince, or see any videos. However, I almost involuntarily turn on the Sirius tribute channel in the car, and sing along, yelling "GET IT PRINCE" or somesuch while I'm dance-driving. I'm also binge watching stuff on YT that I've never seen.

It's making me feel better, because the more I see/hear Prince's genius, the more I know he's still alive - not on this planet, but somewhere.
