Sheila's opinion on the vault

Sheila E. thinks the songs in the vault should stay in the vault.

http://latino.foxnews.com...-in-vault/

Let's hope whomever has a say so doesn't ask her opinion. Just sayin'...

Yeah, that is not anything that happens to any kind of artist after death, painter writer poet or musician

This where greed is good...at least for us fans. Whoever gets control of that estate and the recordings is probably not going to be able turn down millions of dollars of profits from releasing at least some of them...maybe, but probably not.

.

I was reading that some of the older recordings were on older tapes and probably decomposed now...Prince didn't want to archive that material digitally or repair the tapes. That is sad but hopefully much of it has survived.

.

And maybe some of that stuff in the Vault is not Prince's best work, but you know much of it is excellent has to be better than his last couple of albums. But my point is that hearing the older unreleased songs will not tarish his legacy at all.

.

.

Whatever happens, I hope it's handled with love sincerity and deepest care. sad

I'd like Tyka to invite Wendy and Lisa and Susan Rogers in to help with custodianship of the earlier material so that if we are blessed with any future releases its handled in an appropriate manner and released in a way that it deserves. Albums that are properly sequenced and not over engineered.

I'd rather nothing at all than to have his legacy pillaged and disrespected for greed and profit and in a way that would disrespect his wishes. Whatever they were.

Maybe Questlove? I don't know really. Thinking out loud.

The vault is the thing I always knew I could lean on when he finally passed. They better not take that away. I want that Elvis treatment. New material and videos every year. I don't know life without him and I'm not ready to start now. All we got is the music. Dang I'm tired of being sad.

As talented as she may be, she's not a very intelligent woman.

His struggle to release his recorded output defined a signficant portion of his career.

After reading her response, I am on the fence with this one (which is surprising!). On one hand I want to hear every minute of whatever is in the vault(s) but on the other hand if he wanted it released then it would have been so maybe we should respect his wishes? I figure he would want everything to sound the way he wanted to and not someon else's vision.. I dunno confused I do know I don't want any lifetime movies, holograms, etc. He would have hated that. sad

Not gonna get worked up over the Vault now - have a horrible feeling it's just gonna get really messy sad
I could play a different official album every week and that would take about a year to get through. Boot shows I have? That would probably take 5 years and I'm nowhere near an obsessive boot collector, I've got lots of gaps. He squeezed so much out of himself. Considering 'new' Hendrix material is still getting picked over 45+ years after his passing and his recording career really only lasted 3 years, there could be new releases for Prince for hundreds of years. Seriously.
I don't think any of us will ever get the full picture.

Have u guys not seen the Jimmy interview?

He asked Prince if he could produce him - starting with the songs in his vault. Prince seemed open to the idea.

Wasn't Prince teasing about releasing stuff fromthe vault a year or two ago? He also said all of his albums were already remastered and it was up to Warner Bros to create the right conditions for release.

Sheila's been around long enough to spot the vultures circling....greedy dogs can kick rocks as far as I'm concerned. If he's no longer here to share it or benefit from it then I'm fine with whatever they decide.

No way, those guys are way too biased toward a particular era. I'd trust Jimmy Jam to be more objective.

The concept that Prince did not want to release the material in the vault is preposterous. He talked about it constantly throughout his career. It was always intended to be done, but certain conditions had to be met - like ensuring the release was profitable. I don't think that will be a barrier anymore. Nor should it be.

Exactly. She's in protective mode, as all of his close friends (especially musician friends) and family members are. Hopefully, all of his wishes are respected and honored, whatever the case may be. The fan in me wants to hear everything, obviously. If that's not in the cards, whatever.

Stuff from 1977-1989 starting with Susan Rogers, and then have the people in the bands in those times work together. I think a lot of stuff would be released as is, just remastered.

Then stuff after that let dependable people from those periods or such

My heart is with the 1977-1989 music

Oh Sheila!

It'd be a crime against art and music.

Even if most of it is dated or unremarkable, there's still dozens of cuts that are historically important in his music andthat are still unreleased, like Moonbeam Levels, Big Tall Wall, All My Dreams -- to name only a few sublime tracks still missing from his official catalog.

Fingers crossed no one asks her what should be done.

Prince said not so long ago, in I believe the deleted Ebony Magazine interview about the vault, iirc: 'Somebody's going to release it, but it won't be during my lifetime'. It should be released.

This may be out of line, but I think Questlove would be perfect. After all, he's a fan and thinks like many of us do.

Whoever it is better have thick skin though. I expect every decision that is made, some of us will hate and bitch and moan about how it should have been done differently. We all know this is true...

A lot of the songs are already out there, this would just be better quality versions of them, which would only strengthen his legacy imo. Also, if Franz Kafka had his wishes all of his writings would've been burned after his death. These are gifts that should be shared with the world.

Personally I'd be more worried about shoddy remix albums and crap like that, like what they've done after 2pac and Biggie's deaths. I don't wanna hear a new mix of Let's Go Crazy 2 years from now with 2chainz rapping on it, that is nightmare fuel.

Knowing prince ... Some of the unreleased recordings have some intimate moments many women men hope stay out of the public ... Sheila might be graoning on something .. Even so ... Prince says he organized his vault by era and sequenced many albums .. 2 rev ... One vanity .. I think many projects will be released fully formed and Tastefully

Oh no, I don't have any bootlegs. I am just unsure if releasing songs from his vault is the right thing to do (that is why I am on the fence, I am sure there was a reason why he didn't already but on the other hand, I would love to hear everything!!). I just hope whoever is in charge, they will handle it appropriately.
