I can't find his music anywhere. I was wanting to buy an album out of respect, and have been to like 5 different stores and they're sold out. It's amazing how much of an impact he made on music.

amazon is mostly sold out, all the stores in my local area are sold out of Prince's cd's.

I still wonder --- where were these people when Prince was alive?

why didn't they support him buying the music..... back then.....

no offense to anyone, it is good to see Prince making a difference, better sooner than never... however, it's still on a very sad background.....

Prince will be Number 1 two weeks in a row likely based on hitsdailydouble numbers with even more Prince albums in the charts:

UPDATE: Prince hit nearly 360k in album sales from Friday through Sunday, with The Very Best of Prince over 150k. As many as a dozen Prince albums could make our sales chart this week, with a minimum of four in the Top 10. He's also had 1.7m+ track sales, with "Purple Rain" approaching 200k and at least nine others either at or with the potential to reach 100k.

From Hitsdailydouble

Beyoncé's new set, Lemonade (Columbia), became available for download on iTunes and Amazon Sunday night; it hit #1 on the iTunes album chart early Monday morning after sitting one slot below The Very Best of Prince. "Formation," previously unavailable for download, is #1 on the singles chart, while "Sorry" is #3, "Hold Up" is #4, "6 Inch" featuring The Weeknd is #5, "Freedom" f/Kendrick Lamar is #7 and the Jack White-assisted "Don't Hurt Yourself" is #9. Most of the recent of Lemonade dots the remainder of the Top 25.

A source at Sony says the company expects first-day sales to hit 200k. Early reads say the album could do between 500k-600k first week. Could it go higher?

Physical product is due on 5/6. Tidal will have a permanent exclusive on the streaming front. There is, sources say, no plan to take the album wide on that platform.

PURPLE PREDICTIONS

We'll have a full Top 15 for you tomorrow; in the meantime, here's how much music the late, great Prince (who will have five titles in that rundown) is likely to move on this week's chart. All these titles are on WMG.

The Very Best Of Prince 220-250k album, 360-380k SPS
Purple Rain 115-130k, 125-140k
Hits/B-Sides 50-60k, 75-85k
Ultimate 30-40k, 35-45k
1999 25-30k, 28-32k

Note that single sales have been exploding, and these account for the vast majority of the margin between albums and SPS; streaming is exclusively through Tidal.

It's really ashame that the ONLY PRINCE albums the general public are buying are The Hits compilations, PURPLE RAIN and 1999 neutral

There's so much more in his catalouge that's just pure brilliance.

Also just a reminder ALOT of his albums are out of print or just not stocked anymore. Many of the Wb albums like CHaos and Gold are not being printed still, Emancipation and some of the indie albums like Rainbow Children etc...

Looking at Hitsdailydouble and seeing the Building Album Chart for next week's charts is the most surreal damn thing I seen in quite some time. Freaking Sign O the Times is a Top 10 album! I would trade one more day for Prince on Earth for any of this but right now, as we speak, there are people discovering one of the most brilliant and criminally underselling albums of all time. Parade is number 19, there are people right now tripping to the 3 song sequence intro or listening to 'Venus De Milo". There are longtime Prince fans buying these albums just because (I haven't bought any yet) but I would imagine it is more the casual listener trying to discover or rediscover this musical genius. It's amazing to think of how many new Prince fans are being born as we speak.

This is all nice and good, but the only MF's gettin' anything out of this is the WB.

Ironically, it was exacltly what Prince was all against.

It's nice that there is a posthumous interest in his artistic work (hits), but there' obviously much more to the grand scheme.

'The Very Best Of' is the only Prince/WB product i never purchased.

.

I'm still in a bit of a daze, sorry.

I don't disagree...WB is making hand over fist on all this. But it's hard for me to not be happy to see Prince charting again and thinking that new fans are being born. I have always been a chart guy, it always made me happy to see a Prince song or album on Billboard. The f%$#ed up thing about all this is the same thing with MJ and Bowie, where the hell were all these people when Prince was alive? But it is what always happens and the sheer joy of seeing multiple albums in the Billboard 200 is one of the only silver linings in this dark cloud.

RAINING RADIO SPINS FOR PRINCE (UPDATE)

Along with the passionate, explosive reaction to Prince's untimely death at retail, radio has also responded to grieving fans everywhere with a massive salute in terms of airplay.

Mediabase has compiled a nifty purple bar graph that measures the total spins of Prince music at radio since Thursday (4/21) comparing it to the previous pace of his best recurrents, and the results so far are staggering—over 20k spins in total in the first 48 hours since his death and 56K+ through Sunday (+1038% over the prior week).

To put that in perspective, Zayn sits at #1 at T40 with 11,906 spins, Jeremih at #1 Rhythm with 3.844 spins and Rihanna #1 at Urban with 3,296 spins—numbers these artists took an entire seven-day cycle to reach.

Let's take a gander at spins by song:

This airplay renaissance just further demonstrates the timeless, boundaryless appeal of Prince's music, which has alwaystranscended era and format. As a new generation discovers him through this sudden loss, the resurgence could become even larger and more profound. Stay tuned.

This might be a lil morbid... but how does this compare to these charts following MJ's, Whitney's, & Bowie's passing.

Yes.

A HITNRUN PRINCE ALBUM AT RETAIL

Friday will see the rollout of a physical edition of Prince’s HITNRUN Phase Two album on Prince’s NPG imprint (NPG put out the digital version last year). With the explosion of activity at retail in the wake of the visionary artist’s death (his Very Best is on track to do 220-250k albums and 360-380k SPS this week), the recent set—previously available for download and now for Tidal streaming—will undoubtedly get a much bigger look.

This Weeks FULL chart numbers are in, as last week he made #1 with less than 24 hours sales!

The rest of the Top 5 is made entirely of Prince titles. Fans are still mourning the loss by buying Prince’s music and celebrating his trailblazing career. His Very Best Of (Warner Bros.) gracefully slides #1-2 with a whopping 220k, while Purple Rain follows, going #2-3 with 129k. The rest, however are up in placement, as The Hits/B-Sides moves #7-4,Ultimate leaps #23-5 and 1999 jumps #14-6, while HITNRUN Phase One (#21), Prince(#22), Around the World (#23), Controversy (#24), Dirty Mind (#25) and Diamonds and Pearls (#46) all re-enter.

Streeting this week is the first-ever physical version of last year’s digital-onlyHITNRUN Phase Two, thanks to NPG.
