Still feeling totally empty, I m 41 years old and been a fan since I was 10. I tried explaining to my wife how down I feel and its not like we all knew Prince personally but when you have spent 30+ years following his music it's now so sureal I won't be able to check out what he's been doing and look forward to the next song he drops. What I have learnt is what a beautiful sole he was, listening to comments from the Chanhassen community, like the school teacher who thanked him for dropping in on his bike to say hi to the kids, the donation of money and equipment (a piano a believe) just shows how he cared. His ex manager saying how if was the boss, employer, teacher, father, brother, leader all rolled into one. How if always challenged everyone never ever to accept no, or you can't or you shouldn't and to always strive to move higher and succeed. I m finding it hard to listen to his music just now as its brings all those memories back. I m also mystified with his death, what really happened? He lost weight and did look really Gaunt the past 6-12 months, and not sleeping for the last five days, if this is true those medications he was getting from the chemist went horribly wrong, I really want to know the truth.

someone asked me why i was sad... i told them and he said 'why?' the only think i could think of was "his songs filled me with all kinds of emotions happy and sad... and now they are coming out..."

The beauty of life is a well earned rest. Prince has certainly earned his. The magic is he left us with so much of what we love about him. His Heart, his humor, his humanity. He's shared his great joy and deep sadness. We will take that with us always. Death is not the hardest part of living, living is the hardest part of death.

Life is just a party

Right now I'm spiritually and emotionally lost but i know that my, yours and our lives must go on. We must let Prince's life inspire us to be the most creative, spiritual and loving people that we can be.

That's all i can muster for now.

Hi JoeyC, I feel your heartache I really do, I miss Prince badly. But I want to share with you that my father passed away on the 4th March 2016, that again was a surreal moment and the heartache was so great for the first couple of weeks but as my dad was a believer In God And his faith kept him strong, he knew he was going to heaven 100%, this helped me come to terms with the loss knowing he is now in a better place just like Prince will is, surrounded by unconditional love. There is a great book by Ebden Alexander called Proof of Heavan, it helped me understand that the afterlife is real and our time here is just the start. I wish I understood more about life, and when you read how intelligent and amazing prince was as a human being it makes me feel so inadequate and kind of stupid. There will never be another like P.

I like that, he has ascended to a higher level, from the cocoon comes a beautiful butterfly, if you see a purple one floating around there is no such thing as coincidence everything has a meaning.

Buying my morning coffee..I was listening to When Doves Cry. Just as I go to pay she's asking me if I would like anything else..he's singing..'don't cry, don't cry..'..she's looking at me waiting for me to respond. All I can hear is his voice 'dont cry..'..I Just about manage to say 'no thankyou"..in a choked whisper..eyes filling up. I look down hoping she didn't notice. The song ends. My heart sinks to my shoes...

I am firmly convinced now that Prince knew that his time here was almost at an end. It makes me really sad, but like Eric Leeds said, he wasn't meant to grow old. He will be forever ageless...and so will his music. "Time is a trick."

hug I know exactly how you feel. People have noticed that I'm more dazed and confused than usual this week... Just trying to hold it all together. Last week was bad enough; the news of Prince passing made it one of the worst in my life. I felt exactly like this when my oldest friend died last year; Prince's music got me through that.

Yamaha Reveals Details of Prince's Custom-Made Piano
04/25

Link

Days before his death, Prince tweeted a photo of a custom-made purple piano intended to be a centerpiece of his scheduled tour.

The piano, which was delivered to Prince's home at Paisley Park in Minnesota a few weeks ago, was a rush job that had to be completed in about three months, said Chris Gero, vice president of Yamaha Entertainment Group, based in Franklin, Tenn.

We were on the top end of the idea, but it accelerated so fast," Gero said Friday, revealing the behind-the-scenes work that went into its manufacture.

The acoustics of the piano were fine-tuned to Prince's specifications.

"So the piano is an acoustical piano, but it also has a tone generation system internally that can go out to a secondary audio source that all the sounds internally are highly modified just for him," Gero said.

"They are EQed [equalized] a certain way. There were certain sounds that were made just specifically for him." Prince also wanted the manufacturer to match the color to a couch in his home.

"The color purple was specifically chosen by him to match an item in his house, which was actually made of several different colors of purple that made one specific color of purple," Gero said.

The company searched everywhere for the exact shade, ultimately painting it with paint used for cars.

Gero said he was surprised to see that Prince tweeted a picture of the piano and then over the weekend unveiled it to an audience at a show at his compound.

"It was really the last big performance he had done publicly in which he unveiled it, and he was very proud of it," Gero said.

He said the value of the piano now is unknown especially now that Prince has died, but he hopes it will end up in a place where fans can enjoy it. "It's very oddly attached, and sadly attached, to his final days," Gero commented.

"It changes obviously the visual component of its value. We don't want to think in those terms. Obviously people will think in those terms. We would like it to find a safe home in a very prominent place that honors him."

The Last Performance...

Like others my heart is broken. I still can't believe it. Every morning I wake up asking myself if it is true. Did that happen? It's hard for me to even say what happened and to use that word to describe.

It ls just devistating. I love his music. more than that he was a part of my life in terms of impacting it. He changed my life. I feel lost and just so very sad. I'm glad to have this place to come to for others to understand. Every day several times a day I cry (mostly hold it in) as I am around folks.

My heart is broken, gosh how do you go on after this?

At some point I'll really know he is in a better place and focus on the amazing music he left us. Now it is just so incrediably sad.

Just 3 years Ago...Wonder If this was taped?

Prince Gets Royal Treatment at Carnegie Hall: D'Angelo, Elvis Costello, Bettye Lavette Light Up All-Star Tribute Concert

Maya Rudolph and Gretchen Lieberum of Princess perform during the Music of Prince at Carnegie Hall event.
http://static.ebony.com/art_Fitzgerald_Ella032_article-small_24181.jpg

Tribute concerts are a tricky proposition under the best of circumstances. Not only do you need to match the right performer with the right song, you've got to learn an entire repertoire – which, if the tributee deserves an entire concert, is usually challenging on many levels -- in a short time, and somehow find a way to strike that delicate balance between paying homage and being overly reverent; and/or between reinventing and ravaging.

However, when you've got a Prince tribute with Questlove at the helm -- not only the heartbeat of the Roots (the evening's house band) and musical director of "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," but a masterful musician, a world-class networker AND a longtime Prince fanatic who has performed with the man himself – you're in good hands. And it showed at tonight's concert, the ninth in presenter Michael Dorf's annual series, which not only provided a strikingly high percentage of quality performances, it also raised more than $100,000 for several non-profit music-education programs for underprivileged youth.

If the Sound City Players are Dave Grohl's Rock and Roll Fantasy Camp, then tonight's concert was Questlove's, because the evening's biggest musical surprise came at the beginning, when a short-haired female guitarist walked onstage with the Roots: Wendy Melvoin – a.k.a. half of the Revolution's Lisa & Wendy – who was soon joined by Prince's longtime saxophonist Eric Leeds. At long last, Quest – who wore a t-shirt bearing the first names of the Revolution's classic lineup – was almost in the band he'd always wanted to be in.

https://static01.nyt.com/images/2013/03/09/arts/09PRINCE/09PRINCE-articleLarge.jpg

The evening started off with a bang, as singer/guitarist Mike Scott and violinist Steve Wickham tore into a blazing version of "Purple Rain" that saw Wickham flawlessly rendering Prince's guitar solo on the violin. From there, the show moved into a template that varied surprisingly smoothly between funk, ballads and comedy.

http://cdn.sandiegouniontrib.com/img/photos/2013/03/07/2aec0ed4-fb04-4b9b-bd36-844c9d1eb0bcnews.ap.org_tx600.jpg?1cac1c26287decec7a3e591fce9b6936b1eddfe5

Fred Armisen did a hilariously nerdy spoken-word version of the intro to "Let's Go Crazy"; later; Chris Rock hollered comically through the odd middle section of "If I Was Your Girlfriend" (clearly reading from a teleprompter, he probably had no idea where the words came from – as his shrug to Questlove as he walked offstage suggested);

http://cache3.asset-cache.net/gc/163350567-singer-kat-edmonson-performs-during-the-gettyimages.jpg?v=1&c=IWSAsset&k=2&d=GkZZ8bf5zL1ZiijUmxa7QXClh0LhxwOL4aY4s2DJyX6eJdfvQaWaI3rQgApG6NO1wVlHvOL2M%2BHTwRRqY2tc0g%3D%3D

Kat Edmonson

an extremely pregnant Maya Rudolph sang several songs with Gretchen Lieberum (her college friend and partner in Prince tribute act Princess) and gave the evening a surreal touch by bumping, grinding and screaming through "Darling Nikki" while she stroked her big belly;

https://cbswcbsfm.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/163315484_8.jpg?w=594

Sandra Bernhardt broke out a hilarious automotive-themed spoken-word intro to "Little Red Corvette" (which she sang like a dramatic reading) that referenced "the little man who chooses to sit alone, naked, under the cherry moon."

http://media.gettyimages.com/photos/actor-fred-armisen-performs-during-the-music-of-prince-at-carnegie-picture-id163315378

Those moments were balanced by ballads: Nina Persson of the Cardigans showed impressive range on a beautiful "Nothing Compares 2U"; Bhi Bhiman accompanied himself on guitar for a sparse and slow version of "When Doves Cry" that may not have tickled everyone's fancy but was certainly bold;

http://skeudsleblog.20minutes-blogs.fr/files/Mars2013/d_angelo-wendy_melvoin-carnegie_hall-skeuds.jpg

Citizen Cope and Alice Smith delivered a halting "Pop Life"; and best of all, Kat Edmonson sang a gorgeous and strikingly original take on "The Beautiful Ones"

http://www.brooklynvegan.com/files/img/fp/princetribute/carnegiehall/96.jpg

accompanied by a talented pianist, that saw her singing the first verse low, the second high, and belting briefly at the end (many "Who was THAT?"s were heard from the crowd after she performed).

Even other genres were worked in: The Blind Boys of Alabama brought church harmony to a rousing version of "The Cross"; Devotchka did an impressively reverent "Mountains" that included violin and a full horn section (including tuba); and the inclusion of a children's chorus on Diane Birch's take of "Raspberry Beret" was an inspired touch.

But of course, the funk was what brought the crowd out of their seats. Fdeluxe (a reunited version of mid-'80s Prince protégés the Family, featuring Wendy's twin sister Susannah) tore through "High Fashion" and "Mutiny" and backed Persson for "Nothing Compares" (which they originally recorded); Talib Kweli funked up "Annie Christian" and made it topical by name-dropping Tupac and Biggie before shouting "gun control!"; Bettye Lavette tore up "Kiss" with an old-school bluesy treatment; Bilal – the only repeat performer from the "1999" tribute show that the Roots played at Brooklyn's BAM in 1999 – showed his true calling as a top-shelf Prince impersonator, alternately singing and screeching "Sister" as the tempo shifted between fast and slow.

http://media.gettyimages.com/photos/actorcomedian-chris-rock-performs-during-the-music-of-prince-at-hall-picture-id163315204

And noted crate-digger Elvis Costello performed the most obscure song of the night (probably the result of a deep-cut geekout with Questlove), the unreleased mid-'80s song "Moonbeam Levels," which is usually called "A Better Place 2 Die" on bootlegs.

https://cbswcbsfm.files.wordpress.com/2013/03/163315178_8.jpg?w=416

But as great as many of those performances were, there's no question that D'Angelo stole the show – which is hardly surprising, considering that Prince is the cornerstone of his musical being. Displaying the full measure of his spectacular showmanship -- which was so low-key at his own show in Brooklyn on Monday night

http://media.gettyimages.com/photos/wendy-melvoin-maya-rudolph-and-gretchen-lieberum-of-princess-perform-picture-id163358239

D'Angelo stomped from one end of the stage to the other, doing the James Brown mic-stand drop, kicking over the piano stool, leading the crowd in sing-alongs and arm-waving, and dropping in lots of sly little moves and ad-libs that showed him to be Questlove's equal in Prince scholarship.

http://media.gettyimages.com/photos/bhi-bhiman-performs-during-the-music-of-prince-at-carnegie-hall-on-7-picture-id163358267

The band tore through all of "It's Gonna Be a Beautiful Night" before seamlessly shifting into "1999," which saw them joined by every single one of the night's performers as D'Angelo had the entire crowd shouting "PARTY!"

http://media.gettyimages.com/photos/chris-rock-wendy-melvoin-and-suzannah-melvoin-pose-backstage-during-picture-id163347284

The last notes had barely faded and the musicians were still onstage when the house lights came up -- and it was a good thing, too, because that last performance was so explosive that absolutely no one wanted to leave.

From Ida Nielson:

Thursday the earth made a hiccup and left us all a little bit poorer.

I dont know how to begin to describe the magnitude of this loss and I still have a hard time grasping what has happened.
It has been some very difficult days -for me and I know for so many people with me.

An icon a legend and a genius without compare is now gone.
A man who loved, lived and WAS music.

But also a deeply caring man with a tremendously big heart and generosity for the people around him and a great concern for the injustice on this earth.
A beautiful soul and a man who wanted to make the world a better place -who gathered people of all ethnicities and nationalities with his message of love.

It has been such an honor and privilige to have been close to this greatness and I will forever cherish the beautiful moments we shared.
I have lost a dear friend, a Mentor, a big brother, ping pong buddy, a teacher, a laughing partner and caretaker. And my number one musical influence and inspiration ever!

And we all have lost the personification of music and love -and a special frequency is now missing here on earth.

Prince, I love you and will miss you deeply and with me millions of people around this planet.
You changed my life and made my biggest dream come true and I will always cary you with me in my heart.
You may not be with us physically any more but your beautiful spirit and your music will always be here with us
and continue to shine on and outlive us all.
I am so thankful to have had you in my life and I will move on in honor of your genius legacy.

With my deepest love -always
Ida

I want to thank everybody for their sweet and heart felt messages.
It means a lot to feel the love you all had for him.
Love 4oneanother

Amazing how far and wide his influence reached. I said there were priests on here, I thought I was the only one smile

It's hard to get emotional over someone you don't know personally, and I can't say I've been too upset since learning of his passing, although I did well up a little while listening to Turn It up the other night. I prefer to view things in a positive light since his music is the only part of him that I actually knew firsthand, and that has had a tremendous influence on me and I'm forever thankful. I'm sure he didn't like me very much, especially if the rumors of him posting here are true lol, I probably argued with him unknowingly. He filed claims against my popular youtube channel and had it terminated after I uploaded his 2010 album, of course his music was the most popular content and it was only a matter of time but I felt it was important to share his songs instead of letting them collect dust and be forgotten. Even though I haven't posted on the org since 2012 I never stopped listening to my favorite musician, if anything this will strengthen my connection to his work, so I'm not sad, there have been too many smiles and laughs thanks to him for negativity to take place of the good vibes. Thanks, Prince! Purple music 4ever! Special shout out to all of my old friends and enemies, I had a lot of fun spending time interacting with you here! Peace!
You're so glam, every time I see you I wanna slam!

**Sorry for double post, tablet hiccup. Delete this one mods**

I think I'm breaking out of the fog that I've been in since Thursday. It still feels surreal yet real at the same time. The only time I really left the emotions flow was on Thursday when I left a meeting for a few hours break before having to return to work. I was on the phone talking and texting folks and scouring the internet for information. I sat in my car hearing his songs on all types of radio stations including news and sports talk. That's when I broke down before heading home. Since then, I've immersed myself in everything Prince from listening to music, watching anything that pops up on fb or youtube, and reading tributes. Thursday night, I went to City Hall to take pics of it lit up in purple. On Saturday, I really enjoyed listening The Current station for several hours while they played his songs in chronological order. Wish that could have continued for the entire weekend. After work, I went to see Purple Rain at the Roxie at midnight with friends and fans bonding and singing along which was really fun. I might be going to a club celebration next weekend to dance the feelings out. I was already over 2016 prior to the 21st. Wish I could hibernate until Dec 31st. Nevertheless, I will forever cherish the four times I've witnessed his performances with the last one this year on Feb 28th at the Paramount in Oakland. The music once again was a big part of my childhood/teen memories and because of Prince I'm obsessed with everything purple. This is my first time posting in this section of the board, I used to post on some other sections but mostly lurk these days. This board led to meeting and befriending some amazing folks and I'm just thankful to have been part of the ride as a fan. Thank you, Prince!!heart

This is my first time posting in this section of the board, I used to post on some other sections but mostly lurk these days. This board led to meeting and befriending some amazing folks and I'm just thankful to have been part of the ride as a fan. Thank you, Prince!!heart
