Prince April 7, 1985 Soundcheck - Soundboard - Incredible

As stated on the banner at the top of this forum:

"NO TROLL THREADS! NO SOLICITING FOR BOOTLEGS! Discussion is fine, so long as the bootleg is not being promoted e.g. pre-release; requests/offers to share or copy, and links to download or bootleg sites are not. Posting Prince and associated artist videos from sites such as YouTube is also not allowed. Posts of this nature will be deleted and repeat offenders will be first warned, and then banned. Troll threads, fake tracklists, and attention seeking rumor threads will be also be swiftly dealt with. These rules are strictly enforced!

Absolutely blown away. Just listened to Prince's final sound check for the final show of the Purple Rain tour, on April 7, 1985 at "Purple Bowl" in Miami. What a day, out of nowhere an unknown Vanity 6 soundboard of March 21, 1983 from FBG surfaces and then this monumental sound check on it's heals from 4DaFunk Free Music comes.

I have listened to Something In The Water about 6 times in a row now and each time I am left speechless. And to think that this sound check could have, and if it were anyother musician, would have been a quick run through and then back to the hotel, last show of a long, hard tour that they could play in their sleep. But no, instead Prince pushes the band to new highs that only a few, until today would hear.

Controversy -> Mutiny

I got some help I don't need

Drums & Keyboards

Erotic City (instrumental)

Something In The Water

Body Heat

Strange Relationship

High Fashion

17 Days Jam

Groove In A (instrumental)

Groove In F (instrumental)

The sound is pristine, the performance is brilliant and I can not imagine any other sound check or rehearsal every surpassign this one. This is far superior to the show that would follow it.

I am pretty certain that this and the Vanity 6 release will be the only thing on my play list this week and perhaps month.

Incredible to think that this sound check is now 31 years old and yet there is nothing dated about it, it is a testament to the incredible genius and talent of Prince.

Look in the usual places is all I can say. But do look. Because it is free, free, free. And help your Prince friends get this, they need to hear it. And for that matter, get it to your friends who can't understand what your deal with Prince is. This will end that argument once and for all, but by all means find it!

Shit that looks amazing, I didn't bother searching for this at first because I assumed the content was similar to the already circulating April 7th show but now I know how different it is (I had no idea he was playing Strange Relationship so early) I'll definitely try to hunt this down.

Raspberry - Good point, this is entirely different than the show, as were most of his sound checks on the Purple Rain tour.

I find the sound checks far more interesting than the actual concerts, as this is Prince exploring, experimenting and "letting the music in him out."

Haven't had a chance to listen yet (too many riches for one day) - but I can't wait!

It's pretty good. Though my favourite (live) version is still the First Avenue try out for the SOTT tour.

I am pretty certain that this and the Vanity 6 release will be the only thing on my play list this week and perhaps month.

Huh??? eek

.

BTW I'm pretty confused, about last year a rehearsal surfaced from I guess 87, where Prince and the band play mostly covers (James, Sly, that kinda stuff). Do we have any additional info about that one?

Oracle1999 is referring to a Vanity 6 soundboard from March 6th 1983 that just got leaked as well. There's a thread about it here: http://prince.org/msg/5/423074

I'd like to know about this 1987 rehearsal as well, I don't remember listening to anything matching that description recently, but maybe I'm just being forgetful.

Nice release, great quality, but not my thing.

Had a listen at lunch, this is one to file away for me. Too much noodling, need the singing biggrin.

Thanks to whoever freed it though.

It's a late 1987 rehearsal that was released on the "Munchen" bootleg last year (along with the soundboard SOTT Munich aftershow), and was previously uncirculating before the release of this bootleg. They run through various takes of "Mother Popcorn", "I Want To Take You Higher", "Love and Happiness", "I'll Take You There", and "The Sex Of It".
