How good are the non-circulating unreleased tracks that only a few have? Have read over many years that there's a hand full of hard core who have various unreleased tracks & I assume filmed footage? Whilst there's an insane amount of stuff out there for free [whoop!] I wonder does anyone know for sure what some of these 'Purple Holy Grails' are? Recently got the full version of Adonis & Bathsheba ....wow! -that seemed to be 1 held back bt the few but freed for our pleasure?

If you spilled the beans on what they are I could maybe comment. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -

99.9% is worth it, that .1% that isn't usually starts around 1989
but having this stuff is like knowing/hearing/seeing behind the scenes and deleted scenes to a movie. What is released that we lived through is only a part of the story,
Leaving 4 New York Tick Tick Bang the Rebels sessions Lisa Moonbeam Levels Extralovable Do Yourself a Favour Turn It Up Purple Music G-Spot Sex Shooter(Vanity 6) Traffic Jam Wonderful Ass Our Destiny Adonis & Bathsheba Go Splash All My Dreams A Couple of Miles Strange Relationships(86 version) Crystal Ball Heaven Rebirth of the Flesh Make Your Momma Happy the Line Dance With the Devil

got all of those + many, many more. Think many of us have the above. Really bugs me as to what I'm missing! Would dearly love to hear the finished versions as a lot that we have are simply sketches / ideas etc.

surprisingly there are too many prince fans who don't lol
Come Elektra Tuesday is an unreleased song recorded on 26 May, 1985 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, The song features Jill Jones on background vocals. -PrinceVault
God Is Everywhere is an unreleased track recorded in mid-July, 1985, at the Crosstown Circle Warehouse, Eden Prairie, MN, USA, during recording sessions for Parade. Engineers Susan Rogers and Peggy McCreary mixed the track on 26 September, 1985, while Prince was in France filming Under The Cherry Moon, and sent it to him, as he was considering it for use on Parade. It was not included on any known configuration of the album, however, and the track remains unreleased. The track is a piano-led ballad, with gospel-style vocals by Wendy Melvoin and Lisa Coleman. -PrinceVault
Killin' At The Soda Shop is an unreleased song recorded on 29 May, 1985 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA Clare Fischer arranged and recorded orchestration for the song in August, 1985, at Monterey Sound Studios, Glendale, CA, USA, but the song was ultimately not included on Jill Jones' album Jill Jones.
Love And Sex is an unreleased track recorded on 25 March, 1986 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA (two days after Boy's Club). The song was intended for Sheila E.'s third album Sheila E., but was not included on the final release. Prince had previously used the title for an otherwise-unrelated 1984 recording; see Love And Sex for details of that track. During Prince: A Celebration in June, 2000, computer screens at Paisley Park Studios offered names of a selection of tracks which users could vote on for inclusion on Crystal Ball Volume II, and while Love And Sex was chosen by fans, the project was ultimately abandoned. It is unlikely that the Sheila E. recording listed here was the one selected for Crystal Ball Volume II, since it was sung by Sheila E., so it is assumed that the 1984 recording was the one mentioned. -PrinceVault
Married Man is an unreleased song recorded on 29 May, 1985 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA The song was intended for Jill Jones' album Jill Jones, but ultimately not included. Jill Jones - vocals
Palamino Pleasure Ride(?)
Polka-Dot Tiger is an unreleased instrumental recorded on 28 May, 1985 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA Although recorded during sessions focused on Jill Jones' album Jill Jones, it is unknown if this song was intended for this or any other project. -PrinceVault
She Pony ~ 1985 is an unreleased track recorded in December, 1985, at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA (while Prince completed work on the Parade album). Nothing else is known about the track, but engineer Susan Rogers has described it as an unfinished track. The song remains unreleased. -PrinceVault
Stella And Charles is an unreleased song recorded on 26 May, 1985 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA
Zebra With The Blonde Hair is an unreleased instrumental recorded on 29 May, 1985 at Sunset Sound, Hollywood, CA, USA -PrinceVault

ANSWER: Depends. Who knows what you like? You might find all the rarities awesome; you might not care for any of them. I will say this - IMHO by and large, Prince has put his very best work on his released stuff.
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
I would say, they just had so much stuff and not the time to release it Like B sides were never lower degrees of his work that were good but not good enough to make the album cut. During that 198-1986 period I think they just had so much stuff but could not release it.
I think there are some unreleased stuff that could have made Romance 1600 better, some stuff that could have made Ice Cream Castles Better etc

I hope Prince personally knocks on all of your doors and kicks your asses

By my estimation, there's more stuff out there in better quality, rather than totally unheard. Always cry 4 love, never cry 4 pain.

Reading this thread has me equally excited and frustrated. Wish some of the haves would show a little love to the have-nots. Having said that, the haves have been more than gracious. I guess I'm just in need of a purple fix right about now. [Edited 3/24/16 9:34am] [Edited 3/24/16 9:49am] "I like to watch."

it's all very silly i guess. I mean once you have them & have listened to them for years what else are you going to do with them. I know some great live stuff has popped out over the last few years [alas most of mine are locked in a PC hard drive that died on me!!]

Thanks for the comprehensive list OFFS. Thing is they're probably scattered all over the place and it would take too much time to track them down. I think I will rather wait until Prince puts them in a nice arrangement neatly onto a cd per genre. Other than that nothing to do but enjoy what I have and anticipate what HitnRun III might sound like. Failing all that after some time then I "might just have to go and be with those others." I'm one of those person that can listen to certain music and watch certain movies over and over and never get tired.
My computer died on me too and I had everything on there, and finally got someone to extract the music.

I think it was this past year an orger indicated that there may be some material leaked at some point, but to my knowledge, it never did happen. [Edited 3/24/16 13:58pm] "I like to watch."

Yes they are, and the thing about them for me, is that unlike the released stuff, the unreleased still has a thing of mystery for me, and takes me some place i time(that I never experienced)

memories now of some cat in Holland around 1991 FAXING [!] me a huuuge list of cassettes with many of the tracks you see on boots like The Work etc. Posted out the £ & got a big package of tapes weeks later...haha..having to fast forwards rather than hitting the 'skip' button! Indeed i too had the 'this is incredible' feeling, especially the stuff around the 1999 unreleased songs such as Turn it up etc.

Have you heard Wednesday?

I've had dreams of walking into a hole-in-the-wall record shop and find wall-to-wall boots and not even know where to start looking/listening. "I like to watch."

It would be nice, wouldn't it?

Literal dreams? Because I've had dreams a few different times where I discover record shops with mysterious official releases that are nowhere listed but are real, often on (God only knows why) 3-inch CD singles. Strange, very limited releases--sometimes just alternate mixes or a cluster of b-sides, but usually completely unique songs, including the main "A-Side" track. I'll walk out with 10 or 12 discs, for a dollar or two each.
