Room 235

True Story,

There's a patient that the staff and family member that likes

to keep his radio playing all the time. I don't like it and I wll

turn it off because I know I wouldn't want music playing 24/7

especially when I am trying to sleep.

Well, for years now, I've noticed that majority of the times when

I enter this particular patient's' room, there's a Prince song playing on

this particular radio station that they have him listen to.

I am not making it up. I even told one of my coworkers how long this

has been going on. She didn't believe me, so I had her follow me into his

room. The radio wasn't playing Prince at the time, but I told her to wait

because i know Prince was going to play soon. Why did two songs later, Adore

came on and hopefully, by now, you all know thats my song.

Whenever that song comes on in any of my patients room, I turn it up and sing.

I don't care if it's 3 AM

My coworkers always yelling at me,telling me to turn it down, I am going to wake

the patients up. Reality kicks in and I eventually will turn the music down.

Well, anyway, my coworker walked away laughing at what just occured.

It's hard to explain the crazy things I have experienced in that facility.

The recent incident happend last week. I went into the same room and what was playing-

When Doves Cry. I did what I had to do in the room and ignored the fact that Prince

is playing,I left his room and returned 15 minutes later. Now, I really felt like

I am in the twilight zone because and I am not lying, guess what????

PRINCE was playing --and it was that 1000 kisses song!!!.

Somebody pinch me, am I dreaming? Am I on the television show Punk? Candid Camera?

I'm waiting for the folks running with cameras into the room, either to tell me this

is a joke. This joke has been going on for way too long and I want it to end.

I just wanted to share my crazy story.

What station is it? What city? Maybe the DJ really likes Prince.

I don't know about the Twilight zone and candid camera but it sounds like you have an honourable profession and you're lucky that music is part of it!

You don't care if you wake up a patient? If I did that i'd get the sack.

@masaba, I don't think it has anything that has to do with the DJ, I'm telling you

it happens in that room. I can be another room for a long time and nothing like that happens.

well, except couple weeks ago, I was going to play this one song that I like on my phone and

do you know that the song I was going to play on my phone

started playing on the radio. I freaked out because I have never, ever

heard this particuliar song played on the radio before, never.

After typing all this, no wonder why my coworkers look at me so strange. lol ,

Maybe I am that connected to music,it's in my blood.

@ Bohemian67 --Music is in my blood. I have to have music, it's the perps of working

night shift that we are free to play and I am the wild child of the bunch.

I am very loose and I always have my patients smiling.

@ DigitalGardener : Trust me, I'm a loving person and I always treat people how

I want to be treated, But when my favorite songs comes on the radio, it's like I forget that

I am at work. Reality sets in after the first verse. I always turn it down and peep out the

door to see if anyone was around listening :lol

It's a mixture of post-acute care, extended care, rehab and hospice care all rolled up in one.

Are you going to come visit me? I will take very good care of you and I would even

let you chose your favorite radio station, but beware if any of my favorite songs come on...

You should call the radio station and tell the story to them. They might know why, if so, they are playing Prince that often. Sounds like the radio DJ is a huge fan.

I believe that would really spook me out if that would happpen while I'm in

my happy zone, but that would be a peaceful way to go out. I come with peace,

I'm Mrs. Happy and the life of the the party. I have to try really hard to stay positive

while am at work because that place/atmosphere will suck the life right out of you.

They were playing a lot of MJ songs last night. I did hear couple of Prince's songs or related artist. I heard that 1000 kisses song played twice and Nasty Girl but not in that room.

I don't want to tell the radio station,telling it hear sounds crazy enough.

Do you really think I want them to slow down playing Prince? I'll just let life take

it's course, at this point, it's a game to me. When i'm in his room, I just wait and see

if Prince is going to play, it doesn't take much to entertain me.

I don't want to look up the playlist it will just kill the mystery/fun.

I know one day I will look up the informatin because it's getting so weird.

Radio has taken a bad turn .. Everything preprogrammed ... Long gone are the days a song got rotation because the dj actually likes the song .. Everything just got so comercialized .. But i do feel a shift in our culture ... A craving for authenticity ... A movement to support humanity over business ... Maybe the dj loves prince and maybe the station owner is letting his dj do his prince thing ... Adore nasty girl doves cry ... Some of these songs are deeper cuts than others in this day and age ... Its good when djs are free to play the music they love ... Good for everybody really
