Touching Prince? Hey Purple Fam,
today I watched a video of one of my friends called on stage by her favourite artist, touching and kissing him. Since I have been called on stage by Prince, I noticed the respect that we (the Prince Army) have for him, in letting him make the first step to a high five, or even to a hug.
So, I would like to know, if you have ever touched Prince? And if yes, please share your stories

There have been a few instances of Fans not being quite so respectful.

It has been years since I have been on this group. I was on here when I was in the government, eons ago, but since then I have relocated from profession and location. I am now in the South, where he will be four hours away from me next week. My memory of touching him would be when he was doing the Musicology tour and I was in the front and when he walked over towards our side and extended his hand, I was able to touch it.

We don't want to know you that well. - Prince at the Orpheum in Minneapolis, February 2006. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

- - I've never touched Prince and although I'm from the Purple Brigade I'm not sure how respectful I'd be. If I was ever in his presence the first thing I would do would be to Lay him Down and show him a thing or too. For the record, that's his fault not mine. Once that's over ... - I'm not so sure I would high 5 with him. Where I come from we give two or three kisses on alternating cheeks. If I were close enough I would not reach out to touch him though. I like to watch. "Free URself, B the best that U can B, 3rd Apartment from the Sun, nothing left to fear" Prince Rogers Nelson - Forever in my Life -

I tapped his shoulder when he was riding his bicycle on the way to the stage for an encore at one of his concerts in Chicago a couple of years ago. He just looked at me and smiled. I'm glad I didn't tap his shoulder really hard or he would have fallen off his bike. "Just like the sun, the Rainbow Children rise."

Yea, quite a few handshakes and high fives on stage. He did give me a towel in Vegas at the HOB. Tons of guitar pics and a tambourine. With over 50 concerts under my belt and all but the first three have been front row. I even stepped up as a body guard at the afterparty in Maui as Trevor went to go get someone with a camera. The key is always to respect the man and you go to enough shows, he recognizes you. And another huge thing, don't steal from the man. I've had access to setlist, instruments and his book of songs before he went to the tablet and would never consider taking something from him. Respect the people around him, not just the musicians but the roadies as well and it pays off. The man sees everything so don't be a fawning fanatic. He's human.

Yes, I guess that would have been a very different experience for both of you.
At a concert in Antwerp in 2010 a fan who was dancing on stage kissed him on the cheek. I don't know what I would do if I was that close to him : I'm still trying to decide whether it would be disrespectful to do that or stupid not to do it when the opportunity presented itself (By the way, he didn't seem to mind the kiss.)

London Indigo2, after party gig, front of stage, listening to him tear up, Stratus, he played guitar kneeling down in my face, and high five after the solo part, amazing.....

Was in the front row centre stage for several Indigo gigs at the O2. Pinched him leg once (couldn't help it!) and shook his hand on 3 occasions.
Malahide Castle, Dublin- was on stage with him- he gave me a high five (I have a photo of that!), then he gave me his Hohner Telecaster and let me play with the band (yes I did!) and as he was about to walk off stage at the end of the jam he walked passed me. I put my arm round his shoulder, he reciprocated and I said "So Prince... you want to swap jackets with me?". He looked me in the eye, paused and said..."Na". I said "Thanks for everything man." He walked off. My life has never been the same. I meant EVERYTHING.

I have held him around the waist with my hand on his bare chest whilst my friend patted him on his head! That sounds incredibly perverse but is the honest truth! Stage dive, Cafe De Paris, London, August 1998.
I've also clasped my hand around his as he reached out the window, as his car sped away from the backstage area of Manchester Arena, 16th May 2014.
But nothing beats that stage dive. And it's all on film which is a great bonus. I still laugh at the patting of the head. How many people can say they have patted Prince on the head?! Hilarious.

Shook his hand after the 1st celebration concert at the after party back at Paisley. I recall it being pretty limp

I can only imagine what this may feel like to celebrities, with strangers wanting to touch you, shake hands with you or something. I know that I probably wouldn't like it if I were a celeb, because it kind of creeps me out.

I've never touched him, but I was in the front row at Studio 54 in Las Vegas for his Aladdin aftershow (2001? the one with the DVD release). Anyhoo...he walked out with a box of See's candy, and he gave a few of us in the front row a piece. I took one and said, "Right on, Man." Prince never even looked at me, just kept moving down the line handing out candy. Make it so, Number One...

Yeah, in '93 at the Fox Theater in Atlanta during the Act I tour. I was on the 4th row and was one of the lucky few that got called onto the stage when Prince was performing The Continental. I was the last one to get off the stage. Prince was crossing by me at the middle of the stage, so I held my hand out to give him five. Fortunately, he held his out and slapped my hand. When I got back to my seat, a woman sitting next to me held my hand for the rest of the show 'cause she saw my hand touch his. It was a cool night.
