What top 5 topics you want Prince to write about in his book?

Moving away from the battle on the other thread of what may & may not happen. Lets have a sensible discussion on what you actually want him to write about?. I'm suggesting 5. PLEASE lets not flame each other, bitch about him etc.

My choices are:

1] His relationship with his parents & the issues around that i.e. how did the split affect him etc.

2] The WB battle, slave period etc.

3] How he coped with the Purple Rain explosion.

4] His religious journey, how his beliefs have changed etc

5] The music!, what lives in the vault, secret projects/work with other artists etc.

actually I could do 20 headings here!

Mods, can we keep this thread as a stand alone as the other ones got messy [not helped by me interjecting - sorry!]

warning2all

1) the creative process of songwriting/composing/the vision and intent of each album- the "look"/vision of each album (hair, costumes, color scheme, etc. and the philosophy of it all)

2) The Vault and what makes an album & what gets shelved and the ultimate intent of the vault.

3) The Parade/Dream Factory/Crystal Ball Era

4) His true feelings about fans & bootlegs

5) The SOTT/Lovesexy band and era

  1. The creative process. What comes first : the music or the lyrics? Does he write random notes and then consolidate to a song. Or does he write the full song and then create the music. Or is it the other way around? If both, is there a specific flow in the creativity mode of either, depending on the song genre, or a pattern that has emerged over the years that could describe his way of working? Do melodies pop into his head or do they happen while playing an instrument? How long does the album phase take or took on certain albums? Why does he shelve projects?
  2. Something about his travels.
  3. What its like being secluded from the rest of the world. Did he identify at all with the MJ death that being a superstar is not all its cut out to be.Or does he love it.
  4. Deepest convictions about life, yes.
  5. Carte blanche.

1. The loves of his life...Vanity, Sheila E., and others

2. Certain albums like SOTT, Purple Rain(if there really was 100 tracks he created that could have been used for that album)

3. When will he release everything that he has in his vault?

4. Will he ever tour as extensively as he has in the past, again?

5. The recording details behind certain songs like Adore, Kiss, Da Bang et al?

Good thread.

1. First and foremost I'd like for him to elaborate on his mindset when working on certain albums such as TRC, 3121, etc.

2. I'd like to know what kind of dreams he has. Recurring dreams? Prophetic dreams? Nightmares?

3. I wonder where he'd like to play that he hasn't played yet.

4. His spiritual journey.

5. His views on society.

Prince, in you I found a kindred spirit...Rest In Paradise.

good reply! He has started mentioning Lucid dreaming. As for point 3..wow..there's still so much of the world for him to get to... India, China, Russia, S. America etc.

I can't imagine the book will be much good. It will be filled with Jehovah-speak. And leaving out all the juicy tidbits. There will be nothing negative in it, except his views on the music industry, which will just make him sound like a dinosaur. I'm sure Larry will do the foreword. The only hope is that he gets someone cool to help him write it. But some idiots on here will call it a masterpiece. They probably already have.

Stories about him and his dad

Motivations and stories behind songs...ANY time period.

I want to hear more about his process or processes as well as technical aspects of recordings

I want to hear him speak about the loss of his child and how it affected him. Some slight insight to that was given in a story told by Miss Bennett about meeting up with Prince and him wanting to meet her kid and arranging it. He basically ditched Brenda and Susan and hung tight with the kid. That says a lot to me.

Early career tour heedonism...maybe ending with the ecstacy story.

I doubt I will get much of what I want at all. But I suspect I will enjoy the book regardless, and that it will definitely intrigue me, as well as leave me with more questions going out as I had going in.

Go to time out!

My 5 topics:
His childhood, loneliness due to fame, how he feels about fans, clearing up misunderstandings (this song is about this person, I believe in this, etc), and sexuality/spirituality.

1) Why folks who always have negative things to say about his music and nothing good continue to follow his career on message boards.

2. How pathetic "fans" have to be to try and dictate how a grown man wear his hair even petitioning for Prince to stop sporting an afro.

3. When did Questlove become a so-called "expert" on Prince's career, when he's a part time musician and full time media whore.

4. How amusing is it to see fans of a musician who has put out 3 albums in 20 years in the time you wrote 3 times as many classic recordings for yourself and associated artists , claim he's the "new Prince"?

5. How do you plan on addressing former proteges and lovers without mentioning names to avoid wackos from coming out of woodwork to ride your wave?

Adorecream

1. Who he really loved out of his girlfriends and wives.
2. How he dealt with illness and death of his son.
3. His relationship with Tyka and his parents.
4. What he thinks his greatest song, album or piece of music he is most proud of.
5. His reaction to Michael Jackson.

Angelsoncrack

1. His childhood in general but I am especially interested in the angel visiting and curing his epilepsy thing.

2. The 1987 ecstacy story (but I doubt we'll get that) and any other stories of his experiences experimenting with drugs.

3. His own view of his movies. I want to know what he thinks about movies like Under the cherry moon and Graffiti Bridge after they flopped. Does he acknowledge that maybe he can't do everything?

4. His marriage with Mayte (but again I doubt that will go very in depth).

5. How his spiritual beluefs have changed over the years and how where he was at certain times affected the work of that time period.

I wouldn't mind an omelette recipe though, even though I do make a cracking omelette if I do say so myself lol

I have no expectations for this. Prince usually has stories and perspectives on things that are completely off fan radar. I just want him to say whatever he wants, however he thinks is best. I'm sure the book is going to be awesome.
