Sounds in Positivity from Lovesexy...

I'm listening to Positivity from Lovesexy for the first time and I noticed some sounds in the background while Prince is talking. What is that? 4:55-5:12. Sounds like mouth sounds (maybe even water?) but I'm not sure. confused

I think he's just talking with a hard candy or cough drop oin his mouth.

Does something similar in "Poom Poom"

I think the compressor is set so high that you hear his tongue and saliva splashing.

I know! It kind of freaked me out the first time I heard it with my headphones in; it sounds like the noises in Come when he's slurping LMAO. I was just wondering if it was on purpose or if anyone else heard it.

So, you were in the studio the day he recorded it?

Did you put your headphones in to listen? What kind of violent hard candy flipping have you been exposed to? razz

He's done similar things on other songs, and it seems obvious to me since 1988. We even talked about it when we first were spinning the vinyl. Maybe our sense of sound is more definitive then yours? In all seriousness is it not just plainly clear to the ear?

Didn't he do something similar recently in "Gold Standard"? Maybe I'm just remembering his old man voice in that one.

Sounds like he's chewing gum to me. How about the mouth sounds during the trombone solo on Come? What could he possibly be sucking on in that track? smile

I think he must be licking a mango peel. I can smell mango when I play the track. Just joking. Maybe.

Starting to think I overrated the album. It really is not a great album. Christgau may be right.

It's in a league of its own. I don't think it deserves a comparison with "defining" or "made-it-to-the-Rolling-Stone-500-list" albums.

This is not music, this is a trip.

There are days when I despise Lovesexy from the very intro.
And others where it's best pop music ever.

And the ears, it takes a while to make them accept those eighties sounds again.
Hopefully, a good vynil flac helps.
