Well, I don't see any pictures in your post, but I'm gonna vote anyway:

Hands down, 1999. There is no better album cover in Prince's discography. In fact I place it among the best album covers by anyone, ever. In my not-so-humble opinion, of course...

Dirty Mind,1999, SOTT and Purple Rain.

Prince has many of the worst album-covers ever, especially since the early 90s. His idea for covers seems to be to hire local semi-pro artists to design stylized iconic images of him looking like a God amidst mythopeic (vaguely Egyptian, or North-African) fantasy backgrounds.

Anyway, I really like the covers of Sign O' The Times and also 3121. The sleeve of Parade is pretty good, too. (And I did appreciate the hologram sleeve to Diamonds & Pearls.)

"S.O.T.T"....I remember buying it the day it came out and almost walking right past it. I think the cover says a lot...Like P is the "Wizard Of Oz" of funk and he's letting us into his musical playground..He's showing us this is the new journey. (I still have the heart shaped cover sticker decal and the order form).

I'm guessin' not everybody is seeing the picture (obviously Thunderfunk didn't, cuz he said so)--but I see it, and from those I'm gonna pick Sign o the Times.

Now, to the more iimportant question--why those 9 covers? In particular, why The Beautiful Experience?

What an excellent interpretation! Think I will pass this as my own going forward!!!

ATWIAD - both as a concept and secondly because nobody excpected the contrast after PR.

I do like the afro- jazz TRC, Controversy is iconic.... and the stripped down Lovesexy .

"Lovesexy".

Not only the best of all P covers, but one of the best of the entire music release history.

Technically not an album, but The Beautiful Experience is amazing. I have a framed copy of the 12" on my wall (I'm a graphic designer).

SOTT and Parade are pretty cool, and 3121 gets an honorable mention as do The Hits for the amazing Herb Ritts photography.

Out of the ones shown, SOTT. I like the cover of The Rainbow Children but think the design of the rest of the package leaves a lot to be desired.
