Planet Earth is definitely his worst album. However, NEWS is probably my favourite.

As for the HitnRun albums, I didn't even bother to buy them. But even the worst Prince albums have some good stuff on 'em. I love Sexy MF for instance.

Ditto. "All the Midnights In the World" sounds like something The Revolution would have made during the Dream Factory Era.

too many gems on these albums. sure, they may lack cohesion and have some filler but....

bump NPS to #1, add HnR Vol I.

Lotus doesn't even come CLOSE to making such a list.

Interesting you say this, since Wendy Melvoin did actually play on this record.

i would say that there is no "worst" Prince album. I'd say that there are others I prefer over others. I mean, I honestly think that Planet Earth is better than his debut album.

Studio albums that can reasonably be attributed to Prince as a solo artist, and not including the instrumentals or anything that hasn't appeared on CD.... up to and most definitely including HnR Phase I.

1. Hit n Run Phase 1
2. Lotusflower
3. Plectrum Electrum
4. 2010 (would have been #1 but Future Soul Song is a masterpiece)
5. MPLSound
6. Planet Earth

The remainder aren't bad albums, but something needs to fill out a bottom 10.

7. Art Official Age
8. New Power Soul
9. For You
10. The Truth

EDIT: surprised there isn't more hate for Lotusflower. I know everyone went gaga about all the guitar, but it's a terrible set of inspiration-free songwriting.

I don't know about that "nutso" animation. You could argue that the melody and playfulness "All The Midnights in the World" comes from the same Universe as "A Place in Heaven", for example. smile

I agree with you with Lotusflow3r. I think on the ORG, the most over rated albums by fans here are Lotusflow3r and TGE.

TGE isn't a bad album at all, one of the best of the 90's by far, it's just that people make it sound like it's superior to everything he's released...

But Lotus is just so bland, there's nothing on there except for Dreamer and Colonized Mind, it's a total doozer.

Actually, I think Lotus is great. With a great sound system, it sounds amazing. Everythging is produced just right and the band is so on point. It's definitely a mature album.

Sign O' The Times is a mature album, but it's not boring either... For You is a mature album as well, but it's not boring...

We all have our opinions, me I don't like Lotusflow3r and I absolutely loathe Planet Earth.

Any Prince album that doesn't move me both on the outside and in, means it terribly is lacking in something...

Thank U!

Montenegro is a pretty small place in population, somewhere 650.000 in total. What we call Balkans is culturally and hirstorically much wider area (a lot of awful music around here)...anyway, i think PRINCE is well known everywhere, but my observations in Montenegro (i got into P 2 yrs ago) is that people are usually not aware of him, of his active music life, of his art & music in general, even some older folks then me, who were born in 70's...PURPLE RAIN is traditionally their top notch P expirience. Sometimes i have feel like i am the only person in this small country who listens P discography. lol

Not nonsense at all, just different opinions. "Best" and "worst" are very relative when it comes to music- or any other art form. For all the albums mentioned here, there is always someone who loves them. PlecElec is hardly one of his greatest albums, but I find it enjoyable enough.

Planet Eartrh is definitely his worst. Man, it is so hard to listen to that album (besides Future Baby Momma and Somwhere here on Earth). HitnRun 2 ranks up there as his 2nd worst. It sounds a lot like Planet Earth to me. Where is the umphhhh!! Time to put back on AOA.
