Totally agree. His output during the mid 90's was so mediocre, that when most fans listened to TGE they thought it was the best thing he's ever done...

Just goes to show how bad was in the 90s when that's what you have as his supposed best. It actually denigrates SOTT badly when compared.

1) KAMASUTRA...We had a discussion on the other thread about this one.......2) COME..I know many here LOVE this one, but it was a big disappointment. I know the intention was to put out anything for the WB dispute. But after being spoiled by DIRTY MIND and PARADE, you can see why it's on my list.......3) PLANET EARTH)..Really let down by this one. Played it once and put it away...I can't even name 5 songs off of it........4) THE TRUTH..I don't hate it, but I was expecting a real, solid solo acoustic guitar record a'la "Crazy You" or "Reflection"..........5) RAVE Un2..P trying to keep up with TLC, Lenny and whoever was big on pop radio and MTV Live back then..So many marketing ideas missed on this one..P really thought Clive Davis was going to put him back on the top.."So Far" really should have been pushed to alternative rock/pop stations..No Doubt was HUGE back then..That may have pushed the record....6) BATMAN...Not a big fan.....7) THE BEAUTIFUL EXPERIENCE...No comment on that one.....8) MPLS..I was expecting a trip back to the 1981-1983 sound but I was wrong..My bad...9) HnR PHASE ONE......Like PE, played it once and put it away....and I'm probably going to skip on PHASE TWO..the reviews that I've read here aren't that good or positive.......................Good thread idea btw.

Why don't you listen to Phase Two and get your own opinion from it. It's a good album in my opinion and the reviews on here seem to be postive if you can get past the trolls who post the same shit about everything. cool

I don't know about that "nutso" animation. You could argue that the melody and playfulness "All The Midnights in the World" comes from the same Universe as "A Place in Heaven", for example. smile

Because the good to bad ratio is overwhelmingly good but there are still some bad albums?

Probably has something to do with how prolific Prince has been and how many albums he's released. Most musicians of any stature at all haven't even released 10 albums TOTAL, let alone enough material to whittle down and weed out the 10 bad ones.

Unless this is the "Love Everything Prince Does" Forum and I didn't get the memo. In which case, I'll show myself out and let everyone continue the circle jerk.

edit: Planet Earth is just the worst. I don't count Karmasutra and a few others as even really being Prince albums. But Planet Earth was the first time I was just flat out fucking bored and also the first time I really noticed the song writing suffering. I guess I noticed some of it on Rave and Emancipation but I found enough stuff there to keep me interested. PE is just wall to wall BORING and uninspired. There's not a gem on it. I never play it. The whole thing is just flat and weak sounding.

Say what you want about Rave, Emancipation, 20Ten or H&R Phase 1, there's at least a few tracks on all of them that resonate and feel inspired.

Because the good ones are sooooo good! If you've made LPs like Parade and Lovesexy etc than you can live to be 100 years and make crappy LPs for the rest of your life & I'll still love U. THAT's how good Prince's best LPs are. music headbang
