It's really odd that people are assuming 'Electric Fetus' is distributing when they are not.

.

The postal service are doing the distribution.

.

It's weird that a manufacturer gives a box of CDs to Paisley Park, who gives the box to a Middle Man, who gives the CD to a Post Office.

.

Surely prince has a minion who can pop a CD in the post - even Kevin, Bob and Stuart could do that.

.

Anyway, in two weeks this will all be forgotten about and we'll be arguing over the quality of HitNRun Part 3 and whether or not it's his greatest work. A week after that we'll argue if it will ever get to be on CD (again).

.

Sadly this has become very disposable!

.

lol lol lol

First, I agree CB was a fiasco, and ALMOST everything you said is true. However, each disc is nearly 50 min. I mean, come on, we don't have to exaggerate to make this case as all 3 discs could have easily fit on 2.

.

Yes, you're correct.

You clearly haven't bothered to read up on what the problem actually was at the time.

Maybe if you'd have spent money on an expensive five CD set that never arrived with no comeback from the seller, you may realise why it was called, quite rightly, a fiasco.

I'm only gonna say this ONE MORE TIME so pay close attention:

AS LONG AS THERE ARE RECORD COMPANIES,THERE WILL BE CDS AND VINYL BEING MANUFACTURED AND SOLD.

You keep saying that CDs are fading away and yet,I regularly buy CDs (and vinyl) all the time, and it's not hard to find.Reports of the demise of the CD have been greatly exaggerated.Furthermore, there is a new report that,in the past few years, physical copies have actually outsold digital copies.

Are we clear on that? I'm tired of having this argument with you rolleyes

I wondered this as well. Electric Fetus is charging $13.99 plus postage. Prince gave them $5 per unit sold for essentially collecting payment from his customers and mailing the cd's. He probably still has the 1800NewFunk nightmare on the brain.

His product is not wanted anymore, not even for distribution only.

(yes, I do assume he tried to find a dstribution deal)

If he did not try he is simply lazy and setting himself up to fail even more.

I don't mind ordering from a legit business like "Electric Fetus" and am excited for my order.

If this is the "new normal", then start printing up those Vault discs, Prince, and get them to Electric Fetus! Take my money!

Me too. Even though I've already got the music. I'm thinking it'd be nice if he printed some official Chocolate Invasion and Slaughterhouse discs for Electric Fetus.

In the last 18 years I've only ever heard of one or two people on here complain about ordering the CD set. So I really don't see what the problem is.

At the time this was a cutting edge campaign and was simple flawless! And it was the first of it's kind in music history. It even came with a surprise free t-shirt! So what more could anyone ask for!

Fiasco is a nice way to describe it. It was a clusterfuck if there ever was one.

- Orders were lost

- Some were charged double

- Some ordered 1 copy & recieved 2

- Some ordered 1 copy & recieved 0 (but were still charged)

- Some got a t-shirt (I didn't)

- Some got a War cassette (I got 2)

- The so-called hockey puck case damaged CDs instead of protecting them, and looked ridiculous

- The artwork had to be downloaded and printed at home (I didn't have a high-quality printer)

- It took a year to come out from when pre-orders started

- It was promised as a direct sale exclusive but was in stores before shipping, and at a cheaper price

- The 3 CDs of CB material could easily fit on 2 CDs

- For an "official bootleg" the song selection was lacking to those that collect bootlegs

- It was not simple, not flawless and not the first of it's kind

Other than all that it was great. I love the collection and The Truth is essential listening for any fan.

In my not-so-humble opinion, of course... wink

lol lol lol

1-800-New-Funk was beyond incompetent (first-hand experience). I would never order from Prince again. Hell of a musician- a horrible businessman. Ask anyone who ordered the puck, to anyone @ WB today ;)

Noone should wish a return to that method of distribution.

Prince fans are not easy to please. My god ! biggrin

Since this is 2016, why do you people all need to have a CD or vinyl ?

I mean, I have over 3500 CDs, and 2700 LPs, 1700 singles, hundreds of cassettes... I mean,

I've waited all my life to have STREAMING ! biggrin That's what I really need, everywhere i go ! It's the invention EVER for me as a music lover.

I love everything I have, but hell i don't need to take it with me to the next life.

I have no kids, and whom the hell am I all collecting this for ? Honestly.

I loved collecting, still do. But i prefer to get on the next level.
Of course I buy some nice special stuff, like the latest Bowie on vinyl. Great thing to have. But again, that's about it.

I don't need EVERYTHING that's special or looks great anymore.

A booklet with lyrics or nice copies with great art or whatever. Mmmmyeah, it depends.

But ! The internet is a fucking goldmine !

It wasn't there in the 80s. We were depending on radio dj's and music mags to get some info.

Now you can find everything; if you use your head, and know how to search.

It's fucking great. You can even listen for free to tons of bootlegs (download only of course).

Streaming for me is it !

I know the quality isn't always that great, but I'm not a hunter for excellent our outstanding (latest technology) sound

And if Prince doesn't want to distibute his music on CD or vinyl, so be it.

Yes, and me too sometimes feel dissapointed with his decisions and whatever. I have nothing against the man, although he's never going to change no matter what y'all think or want. Sometimes he's an asshole, sometimes he's just plain brilliant.

You like his eighties output ? Well, you got it. Want more ? I hardly can not imagine any other artist with MORE official music, bootlegs and unreleased live stuff available out there.

I still discover stuff amongst his huge pile of released and unreleased music. Live recordings ? My god !! So much to be found ! Close your eyes and imagine your own video to it.

I can even see Prince live in 1980 on the net !

Want better quality of it all ? Remasters ? Keep on hoping, longing. I won't.

But when it's there, and official, I'll be around too, in line. wink

Not satisfied with the thousands of songs of Prince to be found out there ?
Hop on to another prolific artist. At least, if you know one. And I'm not talking about the great ZAPPA. wink

Prince doesn't need to do ANYTHING. If he want's to burn everything that's in his vault, SO BE IT !

I love the idea that he once erased that great 'Wally' song that everyone knows the story about. (If it's true or not, I don't care. I love 'the story'. And I'd like to believe it too.)
That's rock 'n roll (to me), and that's also somehow why we love everything about him, no ?

I hope I will never hear 'Wally', and that the mystery only gets bigger. In my head I can somehow imagine how he screams his lungs out, or just sings in a plain flat cold tune... I loe that Susan Rogers story behind it. smile

I'm just happy to know PRINCE the way he is, with all his crazy decisions and shit, his horrible Jehova choice and shit... Can't do anything about it no matter what, so be it then.

Be glad for what you have and know.

And his output on CD's and vinyl : it's just the music that counts (to me).

I hope that weird little motherfucker with his tremendous high voice never changes. And the way he wants to release things, well it's totaly up to him.

If you like it or not. So keep on 'longing'... fams and fans. biggrin

For me,it's just an old school thing wink I prefer to have a physical copy of an album. That's the only way I feel like I truly "have" an album,if that makes sense...lol...streaming and downloading music from the Internet takes away the fun of collecting.I remember the great feeling I had when I could go to a record store and purchase several CDs or vinyl records, and walk out of the store with a handful of new records in my hands.Plus,I feel like vinyl and CDs is the way that music was intended to be heard...on a stereo.Nowadays, kids listen to music on their iphones and computers but many of us "old school folks" prefer to listen to music the old fashioned way.

I'm as old school as can be. I'm 50 years old. wink And yes i know the feeling of buying things, and having it. But it is a never ending story of 'longing'. And I'm happy to have a clear mind so i can remember nearly everything by name and title to search for watever and listen to it where i want to : with good quality speakers in my car, at home and through my iPhone in my headphone. smile

My iCloud is also filled with good live music and unreleased things from Prince. And IF i want my physical CD or LP in my hands, I can get it out of my collection too. smile

Peace.

Oh look, the old "it didn't happen to me so it didn't happen at all" bullshit defense from the famz. The CB fiasco is well-known and well documented.

.

Sadly, the only evidence that is well documented is the hardship you suffered while purchasing a CD. If you had so much trouble then perhaps you should have asked an adult to help you use a computer and perhaps even borrow their credit card.

.

Personally I had a great experience. The excitement of the pre-order was great! The 5 CDs are amazing - full of unreleased tracks. The free t-shirt was a nice surprise. Even the on-going free tapes and CD from Prince showed genuine engagement and gratitute to the fans!

.

After 18 years, if you still don't like this awesome and unique collection, you could either use them as coasters or perhaps seek counceling. You could even listen to an artist or band you actually do like and stop listening to an artist you clearly don't - surely that would be common sense!

.

The choice is yours lol lol lol lol lol lol lol lol

I'm a programmer, was one back then too. FYI there wasn't an online order site until MONTHS into the process, and it wasn't SSL protected at the time, that only happened days after I and others pointed this out. But don't let those facts get in the way of your baseless opin ions.

The 5 CDs are amazing - full of unreleased tracks.

They weren't full, and plenty of tracks were already released. The track list was so shit that it was labeled as a fake one back when it leaked.
