U2 bores me to death. Prince doesn't.
U2 poses as charity people lecturing the rich on paying their taxes but chooses to pay as little tax as possible in Ireland, where they are the rich. Prince complains in song about the taxman, spares you the lecture.

U2 loves their label. Prince loves his (current) labels (NPG Records, Tidal / Roc Nation).
Jerky, Prince has 3 websites! Although, they're all very commercial and basic. These are his current sites:
http://3rdeyetunes.com/ (My FREE URSELF tees arrived last week and I'm thrilled he's in the merch business.) http://order.artofficialage.com/row/ http://plectrumelectrum.3rdeyegirl.com/row/ (I'm surprised that he hasn't ordered these latter 2 sites taken down now that the AOA era is over.) I thought I was one of the few that is bored by U2. They just don't stand out to me... will leave room for them in the future but right now... you can do anything

Well after the 80's were over prince lost it, stumbled and lost his mind. U2 kept going. Higher and higher. Un the 90's they were flying high. In the 90's prince had hit bottom. Artistically, creatively and by the sound of things, as a person as well. I will alway believe he began using drugs heavily, hit rock bottom and did what all people in that situation do(Vanity) turn to religion and used that in the same way they did drugs. To excess. Become dependant and mindless on religion the same way they did drugs. They get taken advantage of in that weak state. ...meanwhile U2 was helping fight the AIDS epidemic, helping people suffering. Prince kept thinking only of himself. As self centered as ever under guise and cover of the Bible, While Bono worked for himself and otherd, Prince crawled and blamed and pointed fingers. ...it's just a small difference between the two, but as we can see. Religion doesn't buy happiness. You can't hide behind it. It's always about our work.

I just watched on canal plus (french tv) U2 in Paris give the stage for last 2 songs on their rescheduled show to the Eagles of Death Metal.
U2 and Prince are very different. U2 really get a stadium going, their songs are very anthemic. Bono for all the criticism he gets, does a lot for good causes and puts his neck on the block. He is genuine, and has done more for Ireland than many think or know (please orgers, let's not debate bono, tax etc...). Bono's lyrics to me are in the traditions of the Irish poets.
Having said that, Prince is the one for me. Live and music wise U2 are nowhere near (yet they are great). If Prince wanted to be U2, he would have hired Paul McGuinness 20 years ago, brought out an album every 3-4 years & milked it on a 2yr tour.
I think Prince wanted to be Prince, which is why does his own thing. BTW, the U2 Stage at Bercy made me think about the symbol stage in that venue. 21 nights in Paris?
The only shows I will never miss are Prince and George Clinton/Parliament/Funkadelic. I have seen U2 many times, buy their records and enjoy them, but they are just different musicans/artists. I just didn't feel like seeing them this time they were in town (and I am Irish...tip - Check out Glenn Hansard if he comes to your town).

Yup. That just about sums it up.

Correct. U2 IMO is the most overrated, boring band of all time. Can't get into any of their music.

This. Besides, U2 can release an album and it will sale more than just 14,000 copies worldwide...unlike Prince's 3rdeyeflop [Edited 12/28/15 6:40am]

U2's Bono is a true humanitarian and overall great guy
Prince is a selfish mega douche that thinks the world owes him
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
On the surface Bono is a humanitarian. Not as much if you dig deeper than the surface. Compare Bono and Jimmy Carter, who really is the humanitarian? Bono likes to be celebrated for being a humanitarian more than being humanitarian. Oprah suffers from the same syndrome. Sure Both Bono and Oprah help, but not out of selflessness (Their egos are too big for that.).
I'll go on record as U2 is boring (even live in concert) and Prince is one of the best live performers of all time.
Prince does believe he deserves special treatment, actions prove that. 99.9% of everything I say is strictly for my own entertainment

I talk shit but to be honest we know that Prince has done a lot of charity performances and has probably done a lot that was done privately so when it comes to the sort of stuff we are all talking out of our asses. So I'll stfu now about that.

I don't believe you can read someone's mind or heart so you have no clue why Bono does so many good works. You're just on the "bash Bono" bandwagon. I've seen both U2 and Prince in concert and Prince was one of the most disappointing shows I've been to. The Symbol album tour. I'm a bigger fan of Prince mind you but I believe Bono is a much better person than Prince. Much better.

Agree with this | |

But I can recognize they made great albums and songs. They make feel important and considered people who follow them, and they try to give them what they want instead of give them all but what they want.

prince made his fans wait 12 weeks for the last album. U2 made their fans wait 5 years for their lsat album. and 5 years for the one before that. Prince has released 16 studio albums in teh 2000s, U2 has released 4. Prince has that many releases in the past 15 months. U2 is better at marketing, but prince releases far more music for his fans.

Prince has released a bunch of mediocre thrown together shitty shit. His albums flop for good reason. In fact, I don't consider them albums because the songs don't even fit one another. It's more like an song dump, or bargain bid worthy tunes. U2, on the other hand, take their time to put out quality work. That's why U2 albums continues to sale well while Prince's "albums" continues to flop. When you hear U2 speak, they're talking about humanitarian issues arround the world. When you hear Prince talk, he usually is dissing an current artist, and talking about money. Prince has lost his creative soul. Poor thing. Prince is well on pace to becoming an forgotten legend.
