2015 discography is online

So normally everything is there but if u see any mistake or ommission, please lemme know: https://sites.google.com/...raphy/2015

.

BTW I'm almost done with the whole thing's first draft: I only have to finish 2001. Then will come a long, exhaustive fact checking/proofreading process.

Great work, databank. I really appreciate the effort you're putting into this as well as the thoughtful posts you make here.

I guess all the dates and configurations listed in your discography are US releases. Are you planning on incorporating releases exclusive to other markets at some point, such as the Japan only 'Strange Tales From The Rain' compilation?

Thx a lot for the feedback, it's appreciated smile hug

To answer your question, the discography (maybe I should rename it musicography to be more accurate) doesn't list every release (as in physical object) but every version of every song ever made available through an official channel by Prince: therefore each version of each song is only listed at the date when it was first made available (including broadcasts and streams), regardless of countries or format (including promotional snippets for the sake of comprehensiveness). Releases such as Strange Tales From The Rain contain no music that wasn't previously made available and therefore aren't listed there. Princevault will provide a more comprehensive database for this type of data.

The amount of data to compute is so enormous that depsite my best efforts, there may be a few mistakes here and there, therefore proofreading and corrections are always welcome smile

Got it. That makes sense. Perhaps musicography would be more appropriate.

Maybe it's a trivial point but I'd be interested to see the country that got the very first release of each version. Some people might find it useful to know that things like the two versions of Pop Life on 12" were released in different territories. Or that the album Sign O' The Times (which, though I'm not sure whether there is an official way to write this or not, you have written as Sign "O" The Times) was out in the UK a day before the US. I could see, however, why you'd perhaps want to leave those kinds of details to the domain of The Vault.

The official writing is definitely "O" (or more appropriately "[peace and love symbol]" but that's harder to type wink ), as evidenced by the "official" logo: http://991.com/NewGallery...00548.jpg.

I try to keep the information as sparse as possible in fact, to try and avoid the list becoming a complete mess, and indeed I prefer to leave those details to Princevault who make a wonderful job of mentioning them. I usually indicate it on the entry when a song that was first broadcast/streamed got a proper release later, and I also indicate it when a "random" song is later included on an album: going beyond that by mentioning every multiple releases would make the list very messy (and would also add a considerable amount of work: I began this project 6 years ago, it's a lot for one man).

The suggestion is appreciated however, suggestions are always welcome smile

Awesome resource - THANK YOU databank.

.

How do you typically handle tracks like Turn Up from Back in Time? It's listed as:

.

Judith Hill - Back On Time promo album
(03/23)
- Turn Up - 3:28 (arranger and musician only) (released on the Back In Time album on 10/23)

.

Prince has vocals on that track - it's nearly a duet, wouldn't you say?

Thx for the positivefeedback biggrin

Judith Hill is the official credit and listed as such, and P's vocal contribution is comprised in the "musician only" credit. Without giving more details (that's Princevault's job), I simply indicate it if Prince was only a composer and/or arranger and/or musician on a track: without any such mention it means he was involved in all three aspects of the song's production. This particular protocol was established by BorisFishPaw in his HQ list of songs (which predates mine) and I thought it was a good, simple system, so I adopted it.

Makes sense, and any of Boris's methods should be revered so I'm on board already. smile

Nothing to do with that one, but it's a pity it's gone, it was a wonderful project. I wish what was there was, at least, still online, and that whomever was behind it would allow others to continue the project.

lol Indeed, that's why I kept it for last and why it takes so loing to complete. 2013 at least I could do in real time, as it went on (though the Livestream stuff drove me nuts, I'm soooo happy he stopped doing those because of the work it involved for me!). 2001 I have to do retroactively. The worst is the NPG Ahdio Shows, given that I give a track by track list for each with length and all.

Thanks for clarifying your approach as to what to include and what to leave out.

I know that double quotation marks are used around the peace symbol but I wasn't sure if there was an official way to write it with the letter 'o'. Prince Vault and Wikipedia both write it as "Sign O' The Times" (though Wikipedia uses a lowercase 'o'). Sorry for being a pedant. razz

No, u're right to be picky about details biggrin

I don't know for sure how Prince would write it if u'd ask him tomorrow, but I take the album cover/booklet/stickers as a definitive reference, since obviously he approved it at the time.

Thx smile It's a geek's thing. Sometimes it's boring to do but most of the time it's an enjoyable task. I often work on it when I'm in a moment of my life when I need to empty my mind from my own shit, it's like watching TV but at least it serves a purpose smile
