Who could forget that one? Oh wait I did.. The one thing with Prince for every Colonized Mind there's a Purple & Gold. I actually love the fact he has the balls to put anythig out.

It's a perfect 10; the less brilliant tracks just show off Prince's classic quirkiness — which I really love and without which his albums sound like they needed affirmation from vapid corporate commercial tastes.
If I like any Prince album this much on first listen, I give him the benefit of the doubt that the other tracks will grow on me — eventually. After watching the video, Baltimore is even growing on me. The NPG HORN and Hornheads keep most of the songs above water; they nail it every single time — can't wait to see them live.
Four strong bold songs on any Prince album are enough to make it it brilliant: Stare 2 Y. 2 D. —— OMG please get someone talented to do the video for this jam. Big City Black Muse

If this is a perfect 10 then what is Purple Rain? Sign O' The Times? 1999? Parade and Lovesexy??
- E-mail - orgNote - Report post to moderator |
has to be a 20 on each of those

5/10 cause I like about half the record.

@feeluupp @homesquid
Like former girlfriends [or boyfriends...] who you think about in your 'special private moments' — they all do the trick when you focus on their finer points. Can y'all not be too nerdy about what makes people happy? Would you quantify what makes 'Mountains' a better song than 'When She Comes' ? They're both great. ...
Whenever Prince uses the full range of his vox, the HORNZ, and tosses in some uncommon instruments — like accordians (!) — just for fun, layered on top of solid beats and grooves, and sprinkles on top some adult (or exhuberently juvenile!) thought to love, sex, history, spirituality and politics, he creates a masterpiece.

Why live stuck in the 80s?
We can't judge every Prince album to those.
Those are good albums but not perfect and he's also done many more great albums.
Just judge the album by how much you enjoy it and not by what you think it should be.

8/9. I would have gone with a 9 if it had Da Bourgeoise on it in place of screwdriver. Now I really like Screwdriver but it seems out of place. Da bourgeoise would have been perfect and is a cracking song. I hope it doesn't get lost. For me it has 3 stellar songs on it. Groovy Potential Black Muse Revelation.

A definite - 3 out of 10. I'm sorry but this is more mediocre throw together crap, just to make an fast buck off of! I know many of ya'll are thinking I'm just trolling Prince just for the sake of trolling. No. In fact, I love Prince's (80's) music from the bottom of my heart. I know what Prince is capable of when he let's his God-given creativity go to work. Sadly, he seems to put all his creativity on how much money he can get from his recent desposable music. I can't believe this is the same man who made Kiss, Neon Rendezvous, Paisley Park, Sign O the Times, Controvery, Computer Blue, When Doves Cry, DMSR, ect, ect. Damn...Prince, where the hell did your creativity go?

Regardless of their qualities or failures, I find both albums extremely cohesive in sounds and themes. Let us not forget how many tracks from the 80's albums were rescaped from earlier sessions. GB and Times Squared were virtually "greatest unreleased and reworked hits" albums. Jill Jones took four years in the making. Same with Come and TGE, both could have taken a lot of different shapes. And if you look at the evolution of SOTT from the first to second to third config of DF to Camille to CB to SOTT, again it was a succession of very different tracklists that were compliled according to the mood of the day, even if most were from 1986. I think miost of Hitnrun Phase One was recorded by P and Josh over a relatively short time, making it a cohesive set of sessions. Phase Two of course covers a longer era, from 2011 to 2015, but honestly if none of those songs had been released or played live before and it was released as a completely newly recorded album, no one would question the fact that everything is from 2015. Also, we don't know how long it took to record AOA and Plec but my guess is AOA may go back to 2011 or 2012, with the start of the collab with Andy, and Plec was recorded over a near 2 years' time, with probably a lot of alternate, early configurations. Non-stop for TWO days, even though you don't like it? I've listened to it only twice. No sense trying to like something so hard, no wonder...
Stop for a week and then go back... and come back here. As much as I like his music, I've never played his music intensely, it's not at all the best way to assess an album, whether it sounds great or bad, because it tends to "force" whatever opinion I have.

I am moving it up to 9 now, still love it. . Can't believe the amount of hate, people giving it 3 or 0, honestly you people are insatiable ophirs. It's time to leave the org and go to another site. Seems all the haters choose to mark it first. How does an album get 0/10, that is just ridiculous. Go and listen to your Justin Bieber, Nicki Minaj and the latest rap dance they have this week. . It is a really good album, but you would not know from all the haterz. In the old days the org was objective and intelligent, but now its ruined with the trolls who hate everything, start joke threads about Prince in drag or having anal sex and it is just less pleasurable than it was in the old days (Late 2000s) Got some kind of love for you, and I don't even know your name

It's a very solid 8.5 to me still. Overall a damn strong album. I couldn't care less if it's more of a compilation of whatnot. I love every song except for Baltimore, which I enjoy musically but just wish the lyrics were stronger. Look at Me, Look at U. When She Comes. Big City. Revelation. RNRLA. 2Y2D. Xtraloveable. Stare. Black Muse. I really, really like these songs. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"
