I'd say Hitnrun Phase Two deserves a good 8 at the very least. P's best album since the 2009 trilogy IMHO.

I'm glad the reactions are mostly positive, this record deserves praise nod

I think it's an 8, quite possibly a 9. I'm loving the HELL out of this album. It's got so many textures and emotions running through it. Great pop tunes, awesome slow songs, and gorgeous vocals. Swap Baltimore for Free Urself and I would give it a 9 easily. It makes Black Messiah suck purple balls

Totally agree with this. If you replace Baltimore with Free Urself there isn't a bad song on it.

.

It's an 8.5 from me.

A 7-

Compared to Phase 1 i think it's a revelation (pun intended). I think Phase 2 will have to grow on me like most of P's albums did.

Last MASTERPIECE i.m.o. is TRC with Lotusflow3r coming close.

Well I really love Phase I so it's no surprise that Phase II has not grabbed me quite as much. I've listened to it a fair number of times now and whereas the first phase grew with each listen this has stayed about the same level.

For me at the moment it's a snoozy 5 out of 10. Snooziest album since Musicology.

The weird thing though, there's not a bad song on there, I quite like each one taken individually. I think what I'm feeling is that it somehow doesn't become the sum of its parts.

RIP sad

Yeah i'd agree with this (well, except the bit about phase I being good). It reminds me of Prince circa 2008, doing songs like Turn Me Loose and everyone on here was bored out of their minds with that classic R'n'B sound. The poor dude can't win!

A wonderful surprise. Prince sounding like Prince again, instead of trend-chasing. I especially love "Revelation", "Black Muse", "Groovy Potential", and "Look At Me, Look At U". Only "Screwdriver" is ill-fitting and unnecessary, IMO.

For me it's currently an 8. Would have been higher if he substituted screwdriver for free urself. Good solid album.

The in-store version of LotusFlow3r had a one-song difference from the online version (The Morning After traded for Crimson & Clover). Here's hoping.

I don't like Phase 2.. too soon for me to judge...

Right now maybe a 3 or 4 out of 10. Most of the tracks are bad:

Baltimore
RNRLA
Xtraloveable (Reload)
Screwdriver

those are already known and are "turds" imo..

The rest feels bad as well..... damn, I'm very disappointed.. sad

I can't figure you out bruh. You izza enigma to me

He is right about these ones though smile But that leaves many other good songs so he is wrong about those. Well hell, I can't figure thedance out either!

It is a solid wobbly 5 for me.

There are some really, really good tracks here, but the bad ones are numerous often so unlistenable because the cheesy tracks are serious and not fun. Cheesy/corny only works when it is unsolicited fun...

solid 8.5 for me.

it's got all the studio tricks i love, great guitar playing, great vocals, funny jokes, clever innuendo...

it does have some feeble lyrics here and there (baltimore) and too much going on in places (again, baltimore), but overall a well put together album. i would love to hear an instrumental version of this entire album.

i, for one, think it's kind of fun to have heard some of these songs in rougher versions prior to the album dropping. p's given us a nice little trail of what he's been doing, different people he's been playing with and then in the end drops a gem of an album to show us all how it's come together after some tweaking and refining; and this album flows very well as a start to finish listen.

clearly he's still got it. even with phase 1 and plectrum electrum, two very devisive albums, he's turning people on. there are those that honestly like those albums (insert any albums you like, really). but every set has its fans and detractors. glad he's still hitting the sweet spot with so many people.

What number corresponds to "I can't believe I paid for this shit"?

Less as an album release, because we've heard so much of it already.

With FreeUrself instead of Screwdriver it would possibly be 8/10. Not that I dislike Screwdriver, but I think FreeUrself would fit better.

It's a strong 6/10 imo.

Musically yes it's much more consistant than Phase 1 overall as an album. I still say 1000 X's & O's and Hardrocklover are the better tracks, but REVELATION is also the standout no doubt.

Musically it's more organic than Phase 1... But that can also mean a little boring. Too many songs with horns, started to get a little boring...

funksterr

I give a 4. Maybe even a 3. Though to be fair I just let it play a couple times on my phone while I was busy with other things so I can't be super-specific.

I hear what sounds like Prince album, Batman era, Graffiti Bridge and prince era outtakes reworked into new songs. I don't know for sure yet, because I haven't had time to really pay attention because, tbh, there is no reason to think that new Prince music is appointment listening, so, things that don't annoy me come first, but.... This is as bad an album as Phase 1 and 2OTen, just with... no it's like if you took Prince's greatest hits, chopped them up and then COMBINED them with the unnecesarrily complicated vocal runs and blase songwriting of 20Ten.... PLUS HORNS! YEP! That's what is. Word to Skip: a lame song +HORNS, is still a lame song.

I could be wrong, so I'll give it a real listen when I have nothing better to do. But I think I explained pretty clearly why I think it's about a 3.
