It's just hit me - this would be great as the finale of a Muppets film.

.

I can just see them all in a small theatre on stage with Kermit and Miss Piggy singing 'get a big brush and paint the town....'

Statler and Waldof up on the balcony clapping along with The Swedish Chef playing a horn. Maybe have to edit the 'dirty little hotel room' line though.

prince should have submitted this song for the live recent remake of "The Wiz". It would have been perfect for it!
eye will ALWAYS think of prince like a "ACT OF GOD"! N another realm. eye mean of all people who might of been aliens or angels.if found out that prince wasn't of this earth, eye would not have been that surprised. R.I.P. prince

You beat me to it. I came here to say exactly the same thing. I think Prince has some old Muppets albums laying around Paisley Park somewhere.

Now to the bigger question: If 'the big city' is in her arms, exactly where is her 'dirty little hotel roo--' nevermind. biggrin

I'm fully aware of the cheese factor of this one, and I totally understand why certain people wouldn't like it. I find it charming and fun. The horns on the breakdown are sick as hell.

Lyric question: is it "dirty little hotel room/workin' on bomb?" or "workin on a bar?"

The horns on the breakdown are courtesy of Phillip Lassiter - http://philiplassiter.com/ - did the arrangement for Big City and played on it. For reference he also did the arrangement for Mutiny on the Arsenio Hall show - you can hear some of the similar techniques used.

He is a good friend of mine - actually having dinner with him tonight in Dallas - I will mention some of the love for the horns on this song!

Absolutely...you should check out some of his original projects on his website - new album Dreamzz has a lot of the funk and horns that we like and his previous album Philthy I like just as much - maybe better - I need to go listen to them again smile You can also watch videos of sessions, new horn arrangements for Uptown Funk, etc - pretty cool stuff..

Anyone else hear the bass reference to funkin' for Jamaica in this song. Thought it was a sample when I first heard it!

Good song though - just seen someone asked was it unused for the film soundtrack that good love was on, was wondering the same myself!

I quite like it on first listen. Again good musicianship.

I love this song now, it has a Sly Stonish vibe and I love the horns. This album just keeps getting better with each spin.

Sounds like A Superconductor era song to me. (some of the chord changes).

Wouldn't be surprised if this was one of the Andy Allo collaboration songs and one of the candidates for their aborted album.

Did he replaced her voice (leaving her characteristic pronunciation of 'big cHWity' in towards the end of the song) + added horns, just like on Extraloveable?

This song is pretty much a great example for PHASE 2. As the PITCHFORK review stated, organic sound, but very underwhelming album.

Phase 2 and Planet Earth are great albums for the upper middle aged fams. Good office music, or cleaning the house music.

May I ask, what do you consider to be good Prince albums, that is, not underwhelming?
