Adore Adonis & Bathsheba Joy in Repetition Elixir When I Lay My Hands On U And God Created Woman Insatiable Mellow The Question of U The Beautiful Ones I'm sure not all of those fit snugly under the R&B label, but those are my favorites. I was tempted to include "Revelation," but I still need to hear a crisp studio version.

I don't consider a lot of these to be slow jams, more midtempo, especially the top two. Here are 10 slow favs in no particular order ...

I hate to make a list of 10 because it's too hard to narrow it down, but shouldn't Friend, Lover, Sister, Mother, Wife at least get a mention. I listened to it the other day for the first time in years and forgot what a great song it is. His vocals are outstanding on it.
I"m also surprized nobody has mentioned Pink Cashmere yet

He has so many fabulous slow jams it's crazy-making trying to limit it to so few in number. If I could only choose 10 slow jams to take with me on a trip to a deserted island, my playlist at the present moment might look something like this (not necessarily in this order):

Call My Name So Blue Shhhh How Come You Don't Call Me Anymore Power Fantastic Ballad Of Dorothy Parker If I Was Your Girlfriend Future Sould Song
This was weird, as I don't feel like Prince's slow jams truly fall into the slow jamz category just right, but, then some sections of his songs are the dopest slow jam out there. ???

It seems like all the good selections have been posted. So I will add future baby mama to list. Instrumentally and vocally are eargasmic but lyrically it's a hit and miss, especially with title but overall it's still an enjoyable slow jam Don't need no reefer, don't need cocaine..Purple music does the same 2 my brain

I think you have to separate his slow songs into two categories: slow jams and baby-makin' jams. For instance, Somebody's Somebody is a "lets slowdance and look in each other's eyes", while, say, "Insatiable" is "lets just go fuck". I seriously think he's a master at creating both. I tend to gravitate more towards the former in my advanced age, whereas, in my 20's, it was all about "hey, they're playing Do Me Baby, let's go back to my room and get down".

Very true. Agree with all this. I took the thread to mean "slow tempo" jams and not just "ooo, baby" bedroom ballads.

Yea that's exactly what I was thinking when I created the thread, just didn't express it too well.
Originally my list was like urban mid tempo jams, not the ballads/baby making jams... That's why I didn't include songs like Do Me Baby in my list.

When I create a playlist of his slow songs, it's never just ballads or 'baby making' R&B. I open it up to any slow-tempo song that I'm particularly feeling at that time, including non-standards like "4 The Tears In Your Eyes" (Accoustic), "She Loves Me 4 Me", "Free", "If I Was Your Girlfriend", "Here On Earth", "Don't Talk 2 Strangers", "Space" (accoustic)", "That Girl Thang", "Alexa De Paris", "Here", "Welcome To The Dawn", "Old Friends 4 Sale", etc.--even "The Holy River", which speeds up in the latter part of the song, but the guitar retains a kind of plaintive quality to the melody. "Somebody's Somebody" and "And God Created Woman" would totally go on my playlist of slow jams, too. For me it's really about the vibration of a song...or at least the vibe it's giving me. joyinrepetition mentioned "Time". And a very well-deserved addition to this thread, IMHO.
