Was "The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker" ever performed live?

And if so, are there any known bootlegs?

Can't help you with the boots, but it's definitely been played live - there's a version on the ONA Live box and he performed it on Leno in the early 2000's as well.

I love the Leno version mixed with Madhouse and Prince's jazzy piano.

Although not technically "live" as in performed in concert, a really nice version can be found on the first disc of 4DaFunk's SOTT Rehearsals Volume 1 where it's jazzed up and mixed with the Madhouse track Four. It's also in perfect sound quality unlike some of the audience recordings of shows that might be floating around. So yeah, I highly recommend seeking out that release if you haven't really done so cool

Quite a few times.

My favorite is the 21st May 1987 aftershow in Munich version. Absolutely sublime.

Yeah. He performed it in Memphis. It was the merge with a Madhouse song version with Prince on keyboards. I can still remember it as if it was yesterday.

He did a full version of it at the Melkweg in Amsterdam on July 26, 2011. And yes, there is a bootleg which is surely worth getting. When he opened with What's My Name I knew it was gonna be great...

I think I actually remember now seeing the Leno version. I am looking for a version though that is close to the original. Any suggestions?

See my previous reply. It's literally less than 2 months after the song was released, that's as close as it gets IMO.

Do you mean "close to the original" as in sounding like the original? With the Linn drums and everything?

Well, actually I was listening to the song and thought about how the song would sound with a live drummer playing (something close) the Linndrum pattern. And then I realised I couldn't actually think of a tour where that song was played. Hence my question. I figured someone like Sheila E or John Blackwell would kill that beat!

FUNKYNESS

The performance on Leno was classic Prince. That band was one of the best - if nto the best - he ever had and it was perfect. The jazz vibe that he was doing around that time was probably my favorite to see live. Having to endure Josh makes me long for that era.

-- People complained about era back then and I guess you missed that Josh is not involved with phase two.

2007 IndigO2 after show, he played it, I was there, right at the front, one of my all time favourite songs, I thought I had died and gone to heaven, I now have that as a soundboard recording.... Awesome.
