Was "The Ballad Of Dorothy Parker" ever performed live? And if so, are there any known bootlegs? RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

I love the Leno version mixed with Madhouse and Prince's jazzy piano.

I saw him performing the song live in Vienna in 1987 and I think the bootleg of the Vienna 87 show is from that day too . With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! And if, then I hope that I would then have wen in my environment who joins me in the A....

You can find a version on 1988-11-07 - The Palace Aftershow (Confusion Records).

it's even on the official live aftershow disc "it ain't over" from 2002 and true love lives on lollipops and crisps

Although not technically "live" as in performed in concert, a really nice version can be found on the first disc of 4DaFunk's SOTT Rehearsals Volume 1 where it's jazzed up and mixed with the Madhouse track Four. It's also in perfect sound quality unlike some of the audience recordings of shows that might be floating around. So yeah, I highly recommend seeking out that release if you haven't really done so Heavenly wine and roses seems to whisper to me when you smile...

I swear I heard of him doing it at one aftershow in 2007.

Quite a few times. |

Many, many, many times. And with great arrangements. "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Yeah. He performed it in Memphis. It was the merge with a Madhouse song version with Prince on keyboards. I can still remember it as if it was yesterday.

He did a full version of it at the Melkweg in Amsterdam on July 26, 2011. And yes, there is a bootleg which is surely worth getting. When he opened with What's My Name I knew it was gonna be great...

... and he performed it on Leno. "Had to get off the boat so I could walk on water..."

I think I actually remember now seeing the Leno version. I am looking for a version though that is close to the original. Any suggestions? RIP Prince: thank U 4 a funky Time...

See my previous reply. It's literally less than 2 months after the song was released, that's as close as it gets IMO. |

Do you mean "close to the original" as in sounding like the original? With the Linn drums and everything? "Drop that stereo before I blow your Goddamn nuts off, asshole!"

Well, actually I was listening to the song and thought about how the song would sound with a live drummer playing (something close) the Linndrum pattern. And then I realised I couldn't actually think of a tour where that song was played. Hence my question. I figured someone like Sheila E or John Blackwell would kill that beat! The performance on Leno was classic Prince. That band was one of the best - if nto the best - he ever had and it was perfect. The jazz vibe that he was doing around that time was probably my favorite to see live. Having to endure Josh makes me long for that era. Save America - Stop Illegal Immigration. God bless America. 2007 IndigO2 after show, he played it, I was there, right at the front, one of my all time favourite songs, I thought I had died and gone to heaven, I now have that as a soundboard recording.... Awesome.
