I like a lot of it but the album gets buried in self indulgence. Tracks like "Orgasm", "Papa" and "Solo" are hardly even songs and really drag it down.

I've put Come on many a times just to listen to Solo. Art moves people in different ways and I find it glorious!

did I see you mentioning "Papa" as a socalled: weak track..? Prince 4Ever.

Well, personally I can't stand the album version. I prefer the funky, electric version myself, with lines like "maybe u should wrap your legs around my neck 4 a while...see if I can make u smile". Classic Prince for the era. The album version is a boring, typical tune in my mind, that goes on for about six minutes longer than it should. Just my opinion Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

not for me...some very good tracks but some average ones as well...the gold experience kicks its ass as far as i am concerned... . interesting to note that come went straight to number one on the uk album chart....selling around 80,000 copies in the first week...but it quickly fell off the chart and only lasted 8 weeks in the top 75 and was seen as a contract filler by most fans and didnt great great reviews...after this album..prince's popularity started to go down and he never had another number one album in the uk.

You also think H&R is incredible so different strokes I guess. No, I don't like "Papa".

What's interesting is that it didn't start that way. As you pointed out, he originally had some of the TGE tracks on Come, and the "Beautiful Experience" video special showed all of the songs being written by , so he didn't originally try to promote "Come" as an inferior release. I think it was when WB balked at the idea of releasing both albums at the same time (or, releasing a double-disc album), that he took to the strategy of marketing Come as a "contractual obligation album" made of inferior material. He left just enough gems on it to make it worthwhile, but he removed key tracks (saving them for TGE), and did the whole "Poem" edit to make it into seques (which I think he KNEW broke up the flow of that disc).
I definitely think he was trying to make it appear that WB was only interested in releasing albums of weaker material (implying that they didn't know what makes a great album), while HE wanted to release the musically "superior" Gold Experience. What I think he failed to take into account was the fact that most fans were pretty well "in the know" at that point, and we were the ones buying his music at that point. The general public didn't know ANY of this, and were too focus on the weirdness of him changing his name to a symbol. Do not hurry yourself in your spirit to become offended, for the taking of offense is what rests in the bosom of the stupid ones. (Ecclesiastes 7:9)

I am a fan of come. But I personally think it is his weakest album of the 90s along with chaos and disorder and also old friends for sale I believe emancipation is his best 90's effort It is a sprawling album that covers so much ground on the musical kaleidoscope it can't be overlooked as one of his best ever

As such it would make a nice EP.
"Space", "Pheremone", "Come", "Dark" and "Let it Go" are great. I'm not sure what Prince was trying to accomplish around this time. Shit, I'm not sure what he's trying to accomplish NOW. I just know that it was around this time I started skipping tracks and was grateful he didn't do the "one track" Lovesexy CD approach.

Solo is art. AOA is whatever the cheap 80's Hanna Barbera cartoons are. ...crap I think they call it.

If MJ's producers ever came up with anything as groovealicios as Pheromone I would be a MJ fan. Quincy Jones and Rod Temperton are bad ass though. [Edited 12/9/15 20:14pm]

I don't understand the COME haters... why can't they appreciate it?? Prince 4Ever.

"amazing"?? Come is an album that Prince could record in his sleep It's a simple, unchallenging album.....like a collection of B-sides.This is hardly his best work of the 90s.

Interesting...you call the album "completely amazing" and "breathtaking" and still you admit Orgasm shouldn't be on it, which means you think the album is less than perfect. And given the dark gloomy atmosphere of this album, Love Sign doesn't belong there either. Everyone will have their own personal taste, but there's no denying that TAFKAP only made Come to get one album closer to getting out of his contract. No matter how much you like it, it's a throwaway album. Just like Chaos & Disorder and The Vault.

Come on, Pheromone is so overrated, there's nothing special about that song.

It does not fit the overall sound and mood of the album, but in the other hand, There is Lonely, it does fit with the album "dark" sound or vibe.

No one has ever said 80's Hanna Barbera were good. No one. They were schlock hack jobs with no redeeming qualities. Sure, there was a time in the 60's where HB was churning good stuff. Just as Prince had his time in the 80's when Prince was too. But 80's HB and AOA are like the crap twins.

While I really like the Come album, Love Symbol and TGE are much better IMO.

Come is the first album from Prince that I purchased just this year! Before I purchased, I saw the album art with his arm extended, the title and thought he was saying something like "join me" or whatever. It's more like "cum". I absolutely love Pheramone, Come, Papa, Space, and the rest of the tracks are great too! The sucking noises on Come made me drop my jaw from shock. I'm from the newer generation, mind you, so sexual things shouldn't shock me as much as the title track did. I had no idea of how nasty Prince was but now that I've heard more of his music, I'm not too shocked anymore. Great album, in my opinion. you can do anything

Good to see someone agree with me about Strays of the World missing on that album. Yes, it definitely should´ve been left on the album as its closing song, like it was meant to be. - By the way, I would love to hear the unreleased rock version of Space that Michael Bland once mentioned here on the org years ago. " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"
